I remember it being white and beige, and in the classic mushroom shape. Of course, I don't know how accurate my memories are.
What's the largest gilled mushroom in temperate North America (Macrocybe titans is out of range)?
Aspropaxillus giganteus is on the sizable size. I assume you mean the fruiting bodies? Any photos? The gilled boletes in Phylloporus can be huge too

It took a lot of tinkering in Photoshop to get these looking acceptable.

I'm just thinking of a happy childhood memory of an enormous mushroom and wondering how big it could have actually been.

It's pointless anecdote time: In eighth grade English class we got to play then-advanced computer games like Yukon Trail, Amazon Trail, and an updated Oregon Trail. The catch was that we weren't allowed to personally play them. Instead we broke up into several groups, each trying to work as a team to navigate a game to completion. It was neither fun nor educational.
This will soon be my new morning alarm.

It's weird how I'll learn about something for the first time ever and then immediately encounter it somewhere else.

Is this the third time I've posted a picture of this frog on a lily pad? Yes. Is it slightly different than the last two, but it's still the same frog and lily? Yes. Do I care? No. I just thought it was neat. Me and Marge Simpson, shaking hands while she's holding a potato and I'm holding this frog and lily.

The part where it comes out of the pit was added in the Special Edition.
#242 - Antlion
Oddly enough, despite the Giant Hairy Antlion Heoclisus being one of my earliest posts, i haven’t covered their smaller, more common cousins, until now.
For some reason, this one had climbed halfway up a wall and was just sitting there, as opposed to staying in her pit at the bottom.
After molting, she’ll be a somewhat clumsy grey dragonfly-like creature, but for the time being she’s death to any small insects that fall within range of her hollow jaws
