I need Jason's upholding the no-kill rule to be a huge thing™️ in the DickJay relationship, but not in "the conflict ending when Dick convinces Jason to stop killing" way.

Jason and Dick being in a codependent relationship with Dick serving as the morality token but VERY CLEARLY being that, as opposed to Jason ever changing his opinion on the necessity of killing some repeat offenders.

(which, in a way is how I read Jason's upholding of the no-kill rule as a way to be """accepted""" by the Batfam/allowed to operate in Gotham, I'm just putting the weight of that in the DickJay relationship).

Anyway. I want Jason to have nightmares about more people dying/being hurt because he's afraid that someone he let live will act again. And Dick comforting him but clearly getting it all wrong, thinking Jason's dreaming about being beaten with a crowbar or something like that (though to be fair 50% of Jason's nightmares are about waking up six feet under and having to dig out of his grave, but sometimes suffocating before getting out).

Dick being made to watch as Jason is tortured. And, contrary to what the villain anticipates, Dick doesn't break. He doesn't falter for even a moment. He just watches, cold and still.

So the villain taunts him for not being much of a hero, for not caring. To be able to watch someone so dear to him suffer and be indifferent, wow. How does he do it?

'He'll survive this,' Dick would tell them, voice steady as his gaze cuts to them - through them. And there's something monstrous just behind those eyes, something terrifying. Damning. 'You won't.'

Dick makes sure of it.

Meanwhile, Jason watching after Dick to make sure he's staying out of trouble - that no one is fucking with him. One eye nearly swollen shut and breathing painfully hitched. Blinking at the trail of blood that tries to get into his eye and fighting to keep himself oriented through all the pain and trauma and flashbacks.

But then a startled gasp of laughter is pulled out of him and he smirks because without warning, Dick wrenches his arm free and goes for the villain's throat and it's so satisfying to watch Dick get lost in his rage. Especially when it's over Jason.
