Hello!! I hope you're having a good day, I wanted to ask about the characters' names. Is there a specific way that you choose them like "oh, this character seems like he'd be named Bartholomew or something," or do you just pick something at random and hope it sticks?

I never name characters according to their personalities because names don't work that way. Instead, I look through top 100 baby names of their year of birth, where they were born, as well as if there are any ethnicities I need to add to fit what they could've been called. Among those choices, I decide what's best.

For outliers like Dontis, Xanthus and Zaros, those were just fun to create~

what happens if the listener had a rough past with their parents?how would Luca comfort them? Same question with Niall, would this factor change anything in the past? How do you think Niall would comfort the listener?

It depends how this manifests in their relationship. He'd comfort them in the same way he would for anything else: a lot of cuddles and catering.

It would be similar with Niall. It wouldn't change their past unless the reason SB was so against revealing his sexuality was because his family were homophobic. Niall would've been more forgiving much quicker. He wouldn't use physical touch as a means of comfort though. He'd just be good company.

They'd do a lot together! The first thing that came to mind was them going to the Winter Wonderland ice-skating event around Christmas.

Niall would make him as comfortable as possible, and stay close. Probably put on any anime he wants to watch or try in various ways to make him laugh or smile.

He'd wear sweaters but with comfortable trousers, or t-shirts. Just very casual.

I feel like Niall would also be good at gardening.

saku, i saw this post, why do all (or many) your characters have mommy and daddy issues hahaha? is it for practical reasons (not having to include them in the story, give them a voice, etc)? 

definitely an exaggeration! we’ve met niall’s mom, for example, so just jokes heh

For a variety of reasons! Mostly it's because I don't have to give them a voice. If parents or family members are close to characters, it makes sense in a story for them to make an appearance somewhere down the line.

But for other characters, it adds to their development just like it is in reality. Those relationships are the closest we have as children, but to have them nurtured and then severed in tragic ways inhibits some growth while attaching trauma to an individual that they then carry through to adulthood.

The best examples are Elias and Kayson. Elias lost his mother in a collapsing building he experienced himself, and that loss rippled to his family. He needs open air when he feels suffocated. His father is now colder but Elias wants to prove himself, and yet Warden seems cautious with allowing him to do that because he's already lost someone. But Elias carries a strange need to save people because he couldn't save his mother. So most of his current characteristics have been shaped by that one moment in Fresno.

The same can be said for Kayson. He was raised in a household with a single mother and two younger brothers, forcing him to be the 'father figure' and the male role model. Their dad left to pursue his career, so Kayson had no choice but to put the family first, and be the first himself so his brothers could learn from it. He needed to mature quickly, figure out the right way of 'being a man', and instil that knowledge to his siblings while also helping his mother. And these events led him to be caring, outspoken, independent, and a natural leader.
