Here’s a quick costest of Yagen! I get to go style the wig now and also learn how to tie a tie. Wish me luck. I’ll be wearing him tomorrow at Afest.
I probably won’t be super active for the next few days but please feel free to send me asks anyway! And if you want to follow my adventures at the con I’ll be updating on my cosplay Twitter @ZendosaCos!

Asking to have the shoot moved to location 3 since enough people have showed interest that we may not fit at #11 after all. Can’t wait to see everyone!
I’m hosting the Touken Ranbu meetup at this year’s Akon! The plan so far is for the meetup to take place at 3pm on Friday. I’ve requested one of the poolside locations. Bring your camera and ohagi and meet your favorite touken danshi!

Progress on Padme’s lake dress
The underdress is made from silk satin and the outer dress from chiffon. The underdress is a simple backless dress with a full skirt, and is fastened at the neck with ribbon. The overdress is a loop that is gathered at the front, back and sleeves. The arm cuffs are there to hold the chiffon in place. I ombré dyed both layers with yellow, pink, purple and blue dye to give the sunset effect. I sewed silk ribbon onto the top and bottom border of the chiffon, and down the centre. At the front the chiffon is bunched at the bottom too. At the back I made a mother of pearl brooch with glass beads attached.

The necklace and armbands were made from black worbla, shaped with heat and painted gold. I then added some mother of pearl over the top, which looks really shiny and pretty in the light
Now all that’s left is the crazy seashell wig, wish me luck! 😭

Meet Brichibi Cosplay, the queer, plus-size diva taking the cosplay scene by storm
Lawrence’s first encounter with cosplay came in 2001 when Lawrence met Jessica Walsh, her now partner, who introduced Lawrence to her first cosplay convention. It wasn’t until two years later that Lawrence became costumed participant, despite fears of not fitting in. A gentle pep talk from a friend finally encouraged Lawrence to tamp down her reservations and go for it and she learned a very important lesson along the way.

My favorite cosplay that I made this year is definitely Yona! I had to really up my game for this cosplay and master a lot of different skills (hand-stitching, French seams, tassel-making, linings, fletching, working with PVC, pattern-drafting, etc), and I learned a lot! It’s given me a lot more confidence in my abilities, in and out of competition!

I love costumes that help you learn a lot of new skills! And I can tell that you put a lot of effort into all of the parts and details of this outfit! I love the tassels! They’re the perfect size. :) Thank you  so much for submitting and I hope you keep working and improving this new year! :)

Cosplay Materials/Tools I Wish I’d Known About Forever Ago
Because I’m just getting this shit recently and it’s all amazing.
Hot Knife - Holy fucking shit it heats up and you can slice and dice anything you fucking want pretty much. And you can get a multitool version of it with interchangeable heads so you can fry different patterns on to your work how fuckin neato is that? (Cut away from you. Cut away from you. Cut away from you. Don’t be me. Don’t slice yourself with a sharp and also vERY HOT blade. Don’t do it. CUT AWAY FROM YOU).
Dremel - Hand sanding is for people with strong arms (not me) and the patience of saints (also not me). Sand shit down at the speed of FAST. Multiple tools can be attached to the spinning doo-hickey and you can cut and grind and buffer to your hearts content.
Paperclay - Forget wall spackle for filling cracks in props, just use fucking paperclay. Plaster can suck on an egg, put paperclay over your props and sand that shit down for a smooth as fuck and sturdy finish. Build little embellishments with it. Build pretty much fucking anything with it holy wow its great.
Dentists Tools - Listen you’re gonna need poking tools. You can either look through the junk drawer for a pencil or pen to poke things, or you can spend 5$ and get a set of sharp metal sticks that bend every which way and are amazeballs for getting in to the nooks and crannies of your costume. They’re so useful please get them.
Clear Plastic Storage Tubs - I know it sounds stupid but I used to store all my stuff in old shoe boxes (my mom buys a lot of shoes). Having big tubs you can SEE THROUGH is a fucking blessing. You dont have to go digging, you’ve got a place to put your shit, stuff is moderately more organized (lets face it we’re all going to be huge messes no matter what), and its easier to keep track of all your miscellaneous junk.
