THE GLINT IN HIS EYES WHEN HE RECALLS THE STORY HE LOVES AUGHHHHH
makes me think it's no wonder yjh thinks kdjs eyes are made of stars if everytime kdj looks at him a look full of love appears there
"Kim Dokja's breaths, his appearance, his laughter, and his manner of speech [...] And...
The glint in his eyes when he recalls the story he loves
[...] 'I can just read from the beginning again'.

recommending orv to people who don’t like isekai is so hard bc i have to be like no trust me it gets philosophical and such and they’ll be like in what way. and i have to say well that’s a spoiler. so they’ll be like so when does it happen. and i have to say in the last 50ish chapters. but it’s especially great and stands out in a reread. and they’ll be like “so you want me to read 2.6 million words?” and i have to be like well. yes.
and then theres also part 3 (the side story) and part 4 (rereading the side story once it's finished) and part 5 (reading main story and side story at once) and then finally part 6 (rereading main story and side story together)
Hello, Im so sorry if you've already been asked this before, but should I read the ORV webnovel or will reading the webtoon be sufficient enough to understand the story?
No problem! It’s an important question and deserves it’s own post 💕
The short answer is yes, absolutely read the webnovel! ORV is the type of metafiction that does backflips off your expectations for it until the bitter end. Every medium for storytelling has some unique aspects about it, ORV was written with a novel format specifically in mind.
I think the most important reason, though, is that Kim Dokja is a supremely unreliable narrator whose omitted information or reinterpretations of things make up a large part of ORV’s thematic ground, and the webtoon struggles with showing that. Mr. Dokja Kim is a bit too “cool” and infallible seeming, and its harder to wrap your head around the fact that he’s untrustworthy and his perception of events is rarely what’s actually happening
Here’s something I drew recently as an example. The manhwa has to follow KDJ’s POV so the scene is hard set as comedic, whereas in the novel, it’s easy to reframe the scene in your head once you know and see KDJ is being mean to yjh 😔
This is already a long ass post for what is a yes or no question, but if you’re interested, below the cut are my thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of the webtoon as an adaptation!
when my mutuals change their icons that means they have changed their entire body. my beloved mutual gerard way has transitioned into lisa frankenstein
hsy's wlw ships are sooo good. she has such amazing dynamics with other characters. the rizz queen of orv hands down
sangsoo; the ever sweet ysa took one look at hsy and decided that she Does Not Like Her. hsy took one look at her and thought that she will ruin ysa's entire career. roommates. hsy was willing to make an outer god pledge for her
heesoo; they can be the bodyguard x the heiress if you squint. and the Tension™. hsy being "evil" and jhw being judge of evil. jhw's strong sense of justice and hsy trampling all over it. opposites in every way shape or form. yaoi height difference. did i mention the Tension™ and the way they couldn't bring themselves to betray each other during the 46th scenario
seolsoo; the doctor and the writer!! their post epilogue dynamic is endless and beyond wholesome. hsy sliding in lsh's dms like "hey so if this character is stabbed and pulls the knife out will they immediately bleed out or??" and lsh replies with paragraphs upon paragraphs, not-so-subtly dropping judgmental hints cuz why is she hurting her characters like this. dms soon turn to coffee dates then they start dating fr etc etc etc. endless possibilities as i said
will forever be thankful that we have multiple pov changes in orv because how else would i discover that yjh waited for three days and three nights on that bridge for kdj to resurface from the monster's mouth since he couldn't accept kdj's companionship offer like a normal person
