How to become a designer without going to design school
This is a guide to show yourself design.
Update: I first published this blog post over a year ago. Since then, I've gotten many emails posing for more guidance and more comfortable to follow steps, and that I finally found one: Designlab. This course wasn't around once I was learning, but man does I wish it had been – it might have made the entire process tons less daunting. I like it's that it gives you project assignments and then connects you to a design mentor who gives you feedback (they have specialized ones who work on Facebook).
Step 1. Learn to ascertain 
The biggest mistake is jumping into Photoshop too fast. Learning Photoshop doesn't cause you to a designer, a bit like buying paintbrushes doesn't force you to an artist. Start with inspiration.
First, find out how to draw.
You don't need to sit during a room with a bunch of other artists trying to draw an unadorned woman.
You don't even need to get that good at drawing. Just learn some basics so you'll be comfortable sketching with a pen.
You only need to do one thing to find out the way to draw: get the book you can draw in 30 days and practice for half an hour a day for a month. I've checked out tons of drawing books, and this is often one among the simplest.
Learn graphic design theory

There I used to be, trying to show myself design, knowing I used to be competing with these experienced designers.
And yet six months later, I got a design job. There was one key difference between many opposite designers that gave me an edge and me: I knew how to work with developers.
The most significant factor to spice up your employability is to be ready to work with developers. Learn some interaction design. Learn some basic HTML and CSS. Designers within the tech industry (interaction designers, web designers, app designers) are in too high demand and are paid well. That's where the roles are immediate.
If you don't have any experience working with developers, get some. Attend Startup Weekend, attend hackathons, or find a developer through a project collaboration site.
Make a private website and make your portfolio the centerpiece.
Go out and make serendipity happen – tell everyone you recognize that you're trying to find employment as a designer. You never know who might know someone.
Research companies and agencies you would possibly have an interest in. Look on LinkedIn for 2nd and 3rd-degree connections to people that work on those companies and invite intros. Shade: is that the process of adding black to a color to form the hue darker.
Monochromatic: A color scheme built out of just one color, including tints, and reminder that color.

 5 | STUDY OTHER DESIGNER'S WORK
This is often missed or done incorrectly by beginners because they're scared of stealing people's work. 
But, it is vital to start understanding how all of those design theories are utilized in practice. By studying, practicing, and recreating other designer's work, you'll get pity for your design software and, therefore, the real-life uses of design theory.
Recreating, famous or popular work helps you deconstruct design fundamentals and find out how to use them.

Thinking about design freebies and resources, your mind wanders back to your internship days when you never had enough time to come up with a decent design. 
Where you had to scour the whole internet for high-quality royalty-free images because those were all the resources you had available to figure with.
Often, they come short of your demands, and you've got to accept a design you'll have made tons better if only you had the proper designer resources in hand.

The History of Graphic Design and Its Audiences
To insist that, or to prescribe how the history of graphic design needs to be taught in any particular way, limit the sector in both methodology and pedagogy unnecessarily.
 Since there's no consensus amongst historians of graphic design on the history of graphic design or what it should be, no scholar studying the topic should plan to anybody's way of researching, writing, and teaching. I think that if a scholar were to approach the question of the way to research, write, and teach the history of graphic design, he or she might begin with careful consideration of the audience. What constitutes an audience for the history of graphic design? Do multiple audiences exist? What are the constitutive aspects that structure an audience member? What are his or her qualifications? And, what determines the acceptable knowledge domain for potential audience members?
In his 1984 article, "The State of Design History, Part I," the historian and theorist Clive Dilnot observes that style history was introduced into design curricula due to its perceived "important pedagogic role" in studio instruction.
While Dilnot defines design in broad terms, his remark deserves further consideration about graphic design, since the truth of graphic design education now requires that the history of graphic design be taught in conjunction with studio courses. In an interview with Steven Heller in Design Dialogues, the late Philip Meggs discussed the importance of the mixture of lecture and studio. Meggs said, "I've always believed the aim of teaching design history is to strengthen studio education and professional practice." it's essential to notice that Dilnot and Meggs aren't saying an equal thing. On the one hand, Dilnot observes one aspect of the history of graphic design, that the dynamics of studio instruction influence it. On the opposite hand, Meggs prescribes the role of the history of graphic design in commission to the scholar of graphic design's overall education. In doing so, Meggs assumes that the history of graphic design has a "purpose," the sole domain of graphic designers. Such a delegated direction, no doubt, has had a profound effect on how the history of graphic design has been taught in a tutorial setting.
It is hardly surprising that Meggs came to believe that the only intent of the history of graphic design and historians of graphic design should be within the graphic design profession's service. Hence, the perfect audience for the history of graphic design is that the student of graphic design. After all, Meggs was a pioneer of what Heller calls "the graphic design history movement." And, his The History of Graphic Design has structured most approaches to the teaching of the topic within us. Despite his exemplary role, the historian of graphic design might want to advance beyond Meggs' example.
There is little question that at the university or grade, graphic design history is never taught aside from a lively (professional) program. i'm conscious of one instance where teaching the history of graphic design wasn't directly associated with graphic design studio education—a graphic design history seminar that I taught on twice at Northwestern University within the humanistic discipline department. Northwestern doesn't have a graphic design program, although graphic design related courses are often taught in both the Medill School of Journalism and the Kellogg School of Management. Things at Northwestern shouldn't be an exception to the rule. Indeed, multiple audiences exist for the history of graphic design, several whose members aren't students of graphic design but who have a vested interest in its cultural significance.
If the history of graphic design is exclusively taught to graphic design students, then such an appointment bars all other interested parties from taking such a course. The causal relationship is twofold. Within the first case, such an event is directly related (or are often correlated) to the very fact that many graphic design majors are required to require the history of graphic design. Because majors are always given preference when registering for courses, the range of scholars who structure an audience for graphic design history is restricted at best. Within the second, and related, case, an audience aside from graphic design students is a smaller amount likely to have an interest during a history course structured by the formal elements of past graphic design. For example, a history of graphic design courses that emphasize chronologies of designs and, therefore, the rote memorization of slides is of minor concern, although not entirely irrelevant to an audience that values graphic design as a social and historical phenomenon.
Limited diversity and interest within the lecture hall lead to a discount of potential audiences for graphic design as a historical subject that addresses its cultural, social, and political value.
There are many missed opportunities if the teaching of graphic design history ignores the breadth of its significance. For instance, I even have relatively often heard graphic designers remark that the graphic designer's role is to "educate" the client on the worth of graphic design. Wouldn't it's a perfect situation if clients came to graphic designers already conversant in the cultural, social, and political relevance of graphic design due to having attended courses on graphic design history? One step towards accomplishing this ideal would be to adopt a more inclusive attitude towards what constitutes an audience for graphic design history.
Significantly, Dilnot claims that the interrelations "between history, understanding, and practice is of central importance to style as an entire ." He goes on to state that theoretical and philosophical questions that plague graphic design practice can't be "solved in practice without historical study." A central question for Dilnot is: "To what extent can history contribute to the understanding of what design is and what the designer does, and to what extent can history make that understanding public?" I will be able to go further and ask, what method of teaching history makes public "what design is and what the designer does" so on create an environment where liberally educated audiences are fully capable of appreciating the profound significance of graphic design as a cultural, social, and political activity? If anything, this question should structure, but shouldn't limit how one might teach graphic design history.

But throughout hundreds of conversations with designers, I’ve begun to wonder: If most people’s goal is to live a happy life, why did I never hear designers explain how they’d built something to make me happy?
At SXSW, I moderated an event called Designing Happiness. “First it’s about creating anticipation,” Stone explains. “That’s really strong–both from a psychological standpoint but also the anticipation of the experience is sometime greater [than experience]. It goes back to our primitive skills of releasing dopamine. It’s our hunting skills. If we didn’t have this sense of anticipation, we would have starved to death a long time ago.”
Anticipation is so powerful that being excited about a big event, like running a marathon, can give you as much joy as actually completing it.
“The experience itself is really important,” Stone continues, “but an experience is never perfect, and you don’t weigh an experience by adding it up over time. It’s not like you add four and five and get a score that equals happiness. You actually remember the high moment and the end moment, and the most important thing is the memory.”
The end moment is particularly profound–and it’s something every good waiter already knows. One study found that waiters who gave mints at the end of the meal received 3% higher tips, while those who presented the mints with just a bit more effort, asking the question “would anyone like mints at the end of their meal?” received 14% higher tips.
