My newest song ‘golden’ is out now! I wrote this song at midnight one night, recorded it the following afternoon, and put it out immediately because I truly believe that what the world needs right now in a time like this is music, and by music, I mean music that’s new and warms your heart. Not a bunch of subpar celebrities covering ‘Imagine’.
Lyrics:
The winter sunset paints every inch of the city
I've grown to hate this place
But by god, it sure shines pretty
I just want to leave
But I fear new beginnings
Sometimes
I get mystified and I drown in your eyes
They glisten like the ocean
Underneath the moonlight
Your voice puts me at ease
As I watch the sunrise in the morning
I want to walk every beach by your side
I want to be your "good morning,"
And every "good night,"
I'm holding out for you
'Cause you're golden
You're golden
You're golden
You're golden
I want to lay on the shore with my feet in the sand
And put my whole heart in the palm of your hand
Run my hand through your hair while you lie on your back
With your head in my lap
I want to kiss in the kitchen
Dance in the fridge light
We can go for a drive down the coast 'round midnight
Love is a roller coaster, I want to ride this ride
If you'll be by my side
I just want to kiss you goodnight
And every morning, wake up by your side
I'm holding out for you
'Cause you're golden
You're golden
You're golden
You're golden
You're golden, you're my saving grace
You can light up the world with that smile on your face
I hope you know I mean every word that I say
When I say "you're golden,"
I just want to hold you in my arms
We can lie on our backs as we count all the stars
Next thing, I'm wishing on a satellite
That I'll be holding you for the rest of my life
'Cause you're golden
You're golden
You're golden
You're golden
'Cause you're golden
You're golden
You're golden
You're golden
I know, crazy title for a post. However, there’s meaning behind it.
A couple weeks back, The 1975 dropped a song with this title. The song features an acoustic guitar and Phoebe Bridgers’ voice in accompaniment as well as that of Matty Healy, the band’s frontman.
I woke up with this song stuck in my head and thought it would be a cool idea to do a Tumblr post every time I get a song stuck in my head that has a meaning as deep as this song.
The song isn’t written in Matty’s perspective nor is it written in Phoebe’s-- It’s written in the perspective of two members of the LGBTQ+ community-- one a boy and one a girl-- that share the same conflict. While they’re both LGBTQ+, they’re also religious followers.
When I first heard this song back around this time of year last year after Matty had performed it on a radio show, I was immediately put off by the title as well as the opening lyric-- “I’m in love with Jesus Christ//He’s so nice.”
I later came to realize that a good portion of the lyrics are written in an ironic fashion, when later in the song lines such as “I’m in love with a boy I know//but that’s a feeling I can never show,” came about.
Chorus brings a new chord progression along with lyrics that personally cut deep:
“Soil just needs water to be, and a seed. So, if we turn into a tree, can I be the leaves?”
The song is powerful emotionally and lyrically stunning, and if you have the time, which I know most of you do have, I highly suggest you check it out!
The following is a list of songs that have inspired me, or kept me going in my day-to-day life. Songs I listen to daily. As a musician, listening to a variety of music daily is my shtick, and some may know most of these songs, and some may NOT know most of them, so without further ado, here is my life playlist in no particular order.
Elvis Presley - Stuck On You
Shania Twain - Come On Over
Fall Out Boy - Save Rock & Roll
Shakey Graves - Hard Wired
Johnny Cash & June Carter - It Ain’t Me, Babe (Bob Dylan cover)
My new song, ‘Cherry’ is out on ALL (or most?) streaming platforms, worldwide, right now! If you could do me a favor and give it a share and let your friends know, it would mean the world to me!
Hello! I don’t know how many people I have on this platform, but that doesn’t matter. It’s been a wild fucking ride since last time I used this platform. I’ve dropped two albums and then some, and so much has changed. I want to use a platform like this more, so if anybody has any tips, please feel free to give me any “unsolicited” pointers.
