Ultimate Spider-Man: Strange Days
Season 1 Episode 13
Tumblr media
This episode explores the fears of each team member as they are trapped in a dream state, living their worst nightmares over and over. The nightmares shown give more insight to the characters personal lives and personalities than any other episode in season one. Sam, the goofiest one on the team, in his nightmare faces a room full of bunnies, which he’s apparently very scared of. Ava’s a perfectionist determined to get the best grade in school, and in her nightmare, she fails. This fear is common amongst the team members, but it presents itself to the others in different ways. Danny’s afraid of not being worthy of the Iron Fist. Peter, while the whole episode focuses more on him not letting himself be afraid, is forced to see his younger self pushing away his Uncle Ben, Nightmare’s attempt at knocking Peter off his game by showing him times when he failed someone he loved. And then there is Luke, demonstrated in the picture above, his nightmare, failing to keep a building from crashing down on his friends. Strange Days as a whole was crazy and by far one of the best episodes of the series, but this scene-these five seconds threw me for a loop.
Luke’s the oldest team member and with his super strength and bulletproof skin, him feeling all this pressure to protect his team makes a lot of sense. Luke has gone through so much in his life and this fear he has of failing to save his friends probably stems from him being unable to save people in his past. What really gets me though is that the creators actually showed us this part of Luke. There are so many aspects of these characters that we don’t get to see. We don’t learn much about their backstories and we never see them as individuals away from who they are with Peter. So much of what we know about the team aside from Peter comes from reading between the lines and sifting through the crumbs of the little information the creators provide. But they did at least give us this episode, and the fact that they did give us this information and allow us to see a different side of these characters just proves how much potential this show had to be something amazing.

What do Starling (Tiana Toomes) and Sun Girl (Selah Burke) have in common?
- They are related to supervillains (Starling is a granddaughter of Vulture while Sun Girl is the daughter of Lightmaster).
- Both of them like to be heroes despite being related to supervillains.
- They have connections to the teenage superhero team (Starling is an ally of Champions while Sun Girl is from the short-lived 2014 New Warriors).
- Both of them don’t get along with Spider-Man from their disillusionment. (Though to be fair for Sun Girl, that “Spider-Man” was Otto Octavius using his body and he called himself ‘Superior Spider-Man’).
- Yet they are friends with the other ‘Spiders’ (Starling is a friend of Miles Morales of Champions while Sun Girl has Kaine as her teammate / ally / friend in New Warriors).
- Both of them have no super-powers so they use gadgets.
- Both of them are biracial
- Both of them are screwed over by horrible events (Outlawed storyline for Starling and Spider-Verse storyline for Sun Girl).
- Amazing Spider-Man v5 #49, 2020 (1st, 2nd and 3rd pics)
- Superior Spider-Man Team-Up v1 #6, 2013 (4th and 5th pics)
- Superior Spider-Man Team-Up v1 #7, 2013 (6th pic)

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Marvel Premiere #15, which hit shelves on February 19th, 1974! (The cover date of May 15 indicated when the book should be taken off the shelves.) This anthology series served as a testing ground where creative teams tried out new characters and storylines to gauge their appeal. One such character was Iron Fist/Danny Rand, who first appeared in #15 and stuck around for ten more issues until proving popular enough, both here and in his guest appearances in the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu magazine, to earn his own solo comic in 1975.
This was a time when martial arts were exploding in popularity across the U.S., and Marvel leapt onboard the trend with new characters like Shang-Chi/Master of Kung Fu, the Sons of the Tiger, White Tiger (Hector Ayala), and Iron Fist. These characters were a departure from Marvel's standard superhero fare; they were martial arts heroes first and foremost, directly inspired by kung fu films and famous contemporary masters like Bruce Lee, Jim Kelly, and Chuck Norris, and with stories heavily focused on beautiful, thrilling, technically precise fight scenes.

Caption: "You whirl: one man, still doubled with pain, receives the blow of the hammer...another, already reeling, you dispose of with the monkey blow. The fourth attacker, more cautious than his fellows, only now makes his forward leap..." Marvel Premiere #15 by Roy Thomas, Gil Kane, Glynis Wein, D. Giordano, and L.P. Gregory
This sucker-punch of an introductory issue flips breathlessly back and forth between nineteen-year-old Danny Rand's fight to survive the ritual Challenge of the Many and the One, and his flashbacks to the horrors he experienced as a nine-year-old child when, high in the mountains, he watched his parents die. The issue doesn't have room to introduce the dragon Shou-Lao the Undying (that epicness is saved for Marvel Premiere #16), but it introduces the world of Marvel's K'un-Lun and several of its key players, and teases the core premise by culminating in Danny's first time using the power of the Iron Fist. It's an explosive introduction to a character and corner of the Marvel universe that has only grown richer, larger, and more exciting over the past 50 years.

Ok but what if: Ben, Kaine, Janine and Aracely are a wandering family AU who live in their car and roadtrip around the states to hunt down bad guys who terrorize smaller cities that don't have super heroes to protect them. Cute banter, found family deluxe, stops at wacky roadside attractions, new and original bad guys and supporting cast, crossovers with other heroes who are not based in NY. Also helping off site when shit goes global once again for Peter and it seems like fucking nobody wants to help him (Avengers and F4 and so on are off world again etc etc) I need this so bad I'm trembling like a chihuahua Also why not canon??? Come on, please
