Please read all of this message. This page is usually dedicated specifically to my writing. However, there has been an act of injustice and racism that I can’t ignore.
George Floyd, an African-American man, was murdered by a white Minneapolis police officer named Derek Chauvin on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis. George Floyd was already handcuffed and lying face down on the floor when officer Chauvin put his knee on his neck for several minutes. Minutes in which Floyd stated several times that he couldn’t breathe until he became unconscious and died. Minutes in which two more officers held Floyd down, and a fourth officer stood there doing nothing just watching Floyd being murdered. How many more lives need to be lost in order to recognize the racism that is still present in many institutions of our society? That African-American people are more likely to be killed by an act of racism by the police than any other race? How many more lives are we willing to lose before we decide to do something?
George Floyd was unfortunately not the first African-American to be murdered, and if we don’t make our voices heard he won’t be the last. Several protests have taken place nationwide and many protestors have been arrested.
I found a post by @mimizhuxiyuan on Instagram that has good information that I wanted to share with you. If you can, please consider donating to George Floyd’s memorial fund, the Minnesota Freedom Fund, and/or other non-profit organizations working to bail those people who have been arrested for protesting (link in the images). Any donation is significant and counts. I know we’re all going through a difficult time at the moment, so even if you’re not able to donate, please educate yourself and those around you about how you can contribute to make a better community for people of color and please call your racist family members and friends out. Take action and don’t stay quiet.
If you have a following on you page SPEAK UP, SHARE RESOURCES, SHOW YOUR ANGER, and most importantly, DON’T LET THE NAME OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN MURDERED BE FORGOTTEN, LET THEM BE THE FUEL THAT GUIDES THIS MOVEMENT.
Acts of racism MUST END.
Thank you!!

Goodbye, My Love (Ethan Ramsey x MC)
Title: Goodbye, My Love.
Words: 2,029
Book: Open Heart (After the end of book 1)
Characters: Ethan Ramsey x MC
Summary: Dr. Maya Garcia finds out Ethan is leaving for two months.
Hey everyone!! Guess who’s back?! Lol After taking an involuntary break from Tumblr due to work, I couldn’t stop myself from writing this piece after playing chapter 1 from the second book fo Open Heart. Enjoy!
NOTE: As always, If you decide to give it a try, THANK YOU!! If you liked my writing, I would mean a lot to me if you shared it with others who might be interested. Any constructive criticism, suggestions, and/or comments are more than welcome. I hope you enjoy it :)
Some of the characters portrayed in this story belong to Pixelberry Studios and they are borrowed. I don’t own “Open Heart” or any of the original characters.
________________________________________________
Everything felt like a dream. The day before, Naveen had appointed you as a junior fellow in the diagnostics team but that left you a little concerned. On one hand, this was all you had worked for these past years. Your dream was finally becoming true. All the sleepless nights spent studying, all the stress, all those years working hard to be the best you can be. It was not only you. You carried the dreams and hopes of generations of your family everywhere you went. After all the sacrifices your parents made for you, you were finally able to say to them “we made it”. But, at what cost? The day before was also the day your heart broke in million pieces after Ethan set boundaries with you. “It makes sense,” you say to yourself as you turn around in your bed. The pillow next to you still smelled like him. “It’s best for both of us to keep a distance.” On the other hand, it is easier to say something than to actually do it. You knew that working directly under his supervision was going to be hell. How could you resist being so close to him and not being able to touch or kiss him?
Today was your free day at work but you wanted to go to the hospital to get some studying done and get used to your new position in the diagnostics team. Deep down you knew the real reason why you were going to the hospital and his name was Ethan Jonah Ramsey. It was very different going to the hospital on a day where you were not going 100 km per hour getting tests done and taking care of your patients. After saying hi to all your coworkers you finally reached the fourth floor and made your way to the office you knew so well. You knock on the door a couple of times and received no response.
“Excuse me, have you seen Dr. Ramsey?” you ask one of the nurses passing by after standing a few minutes outside. You recognize nurse Kelley. You had interacted with her a few times but you knew she hated you because she was in love with Ethan and she had noticed that he only had a soft spot for you.
“You didn’t hear?” she questioned me. “He’s leaving.”
“What?!” Your face began getting red and you swear you could hear your heart beating.
”I’m surprised he didn’t mention it to you,” she said with a smile forming in her face, “I thought you two were united.”
You left her talking alone in the hallway and began running towards the elevator. The hospital suddenly felt asphyxiating and you needed fresh air. How could Ethan leave and not tell you anything? Just the day before you two had talked and agreed to make your relationship extremely professional, you were going to make it work but without telling you anything he decided to run away. The day was really rainy but that didn’t stop you from running outside and standing in the pouring rain calling for a taxi. After arriving at his apartment complex, you called his apartment through the intercom but there was no answer.
A sweet, old lady opened the door of the building and you took the opportunity to enter. The closer you got to Ethan’s apartment the more indecisive you became. Was this the correct thing to do? Maybe it was the best thing for both of you to spend some time apart to clear your minds and focus on what’s important: your careers. Without realizing it you had reached his door. You stood there for a couple of minutes unable to raise your hand and knock on the door. When you finally turned around and were about to leave someone opened the door. Ethan stood there surprised to see you there.
“Dr. Garcia?”
You flinched as you heard your last name. Damn it. You were no longer Rookie or Maya, now you were Dr. Garcia.
Once you saw him there standing by his door you were unable to get any words out. He was wearing a part of black jeans and a red long sleeve shirt. You looked past him and saw a luggage bag sitting on the floor right behind him.
“What are you doing here?” Ethan asked you while looking around outside his door and then looking you up and down he added, “are you hurt?”
Yes, you were hurt but not in that way.
“I heard you were leaving again.” Not so long ago you thought you were losing Ethan forever. He had resigned and distanced himself from everyone when Naveen was dying. This time it was different because you knew it wasn’t forever, but still, a lot of things could change in a couple of months. He could get over you and your relationship or, even worse, fall in love with someone new.
Ethan held the door open and stepped back letting you come inside. He brushed his hair with one hand while he closed the door and you could tell he was carefully choosing how to answer your question. He finally cleared his throat. “It’s only a couple of months. There’s an outbreak and things are getting pretty rough.”
You walked across his entrance, passing next to his luggage bag, and stopped right in front of his couch. You turned around to face him and tried to say something but no words came out. All you were able to do was stare right at those deep blue eyes hoping that your eyes would transmit to him all your questions.
“A friend who works at a hospital in Rio asked me if I could come and give them a hand with an outbreak they’re unable to control and I couldn’t say no,” he replied when he realized you weren’t going to say anything. Once again you only stood there unable to say anything. Did this man not understand how painful it was for you to be away from him? His forehead became wrinkled with confusion as he tried to decipher the reason why you had come to his apartment. “Your position in the diagnostics team doesn’t start until a couple of months from now, so if you’re worried about how this emergency trip will affect it, then don’t worry because it won’t.” How did this man manage to always make everything about work?
You finally found your voice. “That’s not why I am here,” you replied a little hurt from his implication.
“Then, why are you here?” he questioned you. You could see his forehead had relaxed a little bit and he was a little relieved after hearing you talk.
“It’s an outbreak. It is very dangerous.”
“Have you noticed we both work in a hospital surrounded by hundreds of patients with dozens of different contagious diseases. We’re in danger at work every day.”
“But, there’s no cure yet. Hundreds of people are dying, Ethan.”
“And that’s precisely the reason why I should go. In case you already forgot, we made a promise when we became doctors to help as many people as we can.”
Sigh. “What will happen to your patients? You can’t leave them just like that, they need you.” I need you.
“They’ll be alright,” he replied as he walked to the closet next to his door and took out his dark leather jacket. “I talked to Dr. Estrada and Dr. Robinson, they’ll take care of them while I’m gone.”
You opened your mouth to make another excuse as to why he should stay but he was faster than you and replied to your inexistent question before you could even say it.
“Naveen is also okay with it. We talked and he agreed to give me permission to be absent from the hospital for a little bit,” he said with a suspicious tone and narrowing his eyes. “Why are you really here Dr. Garcia?”
You had tried really hard to keep your real intentions hidden but he was always able to see right through you. You hid your face with your hands and fell down sitting on his couch.
“I don’t want you to leave. We finally got over all our problems, my ethics hearing, Naveen’s illness. We are back to working together in the hospital. You can’t leave now. The hospital needs you! I need you!”
You were too afraid to show your emotions that you kept your face hidden. After a brief silence, you felt a pair of warm, rough hands grab your wrists and uncover your face. There he was. Ethan was kneeling right in front of you with a worried look on his face.
“Maya, please don’t do this.” You could see a fight occurring inside him between what he really wanted and the ethical thing to do.
“No, Ethan. You’re the one making this unbearable.”
“Do you think I am happy doing this? Do you think I like being away from you? The time I spent away after I resigned was the worst. I wished I could be with you every day! I wished I was able to hug you and make your pain go away but I couldn’t!” His face getting closer to yours after every statement. “Don’t you see how much you mean to me?! I am unable to function correctly if I’m not close to you.”
“But, then why-”
“I keep building walls between us because, unfortunately, we’re not meant to be together.”
A knot formed in your throat. Your eyes began watering and after he let go of your wrists you allowed one of your hands to touch his cheek. Your touch calmed him down.
“If I leave for this work trip, it will be better for both of us in the future since we will have to work together every day. Our patients come first and it is time we both understand that.”
A small tear began to drop down his right cheek. Involuntarily, you got closer and kissed the path his tear had left on his cheek. Your faces were a few inches away. You could feel his warmth. The smell his cologne as too familiar. You could see the walls he had mentioned just seconds before tumble down between both of you. In a compulsive move, he grabbed your face and kissed you. You could feel all your emotions burning our skin. There was a sense of familiarity in the way your lips met, the way one of his hands held your cheek and the other one traveled down to your waist pulling you closer. You grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer to you. You ran your hands through his brown wavy hair, his beard, and down his chest. The kiss grew deeper and more passionate. You could feel your heart beating so hard that you thought it was going to burst out of your chest. His breath was intoxicating. He began pushing you back on the couch, positioning himself on top of you when the intercom system rang. Both of you stopped breathless. He broke the kiss and stood up quickly to release you. The intercom system rang again.
“I called a taxi,” Ethan replied trying to catch his breath and fix his composture while he walked towards his luggage. “I’m sorry, its time for me to go.”
Everything had happened so fast. It hurt a lot to see him go, but you remembered his speech about your dedication to your patients. Your brain understood where this decision came from, but your heart still declined to accept it. Without saying anything you stood up from the couch and walked towards the door passing next to him. You grabbed his hand and squeezed it. Then, you gave him one final small kiss on the lips.
“Goodbye, my love.”
“Goodbye, Rookie.”
And you finally let your hand drop to your side and walked through his door. As soon as you put one foot outside his apartment, you knew the next two months without him were going to be hell.

My Good Love (Ethan Ramsey x MC)
Title: My Good Love
Words: 4444
Book: Open Heart
Characters: Ethan Ramsey x MC
Summary: Dr. Maya García celebrates her birthday.
NOTE: I was inspired by a song by Enrique Bunbury and Mon Laferte - Mi Buen Amor, in case you want to listen to it. I finished this piece a couple of weeks ago but I’ve been so busy with work that I was able to upload it until today.
If you decide to read it, THANK YOU!! Any constructive criticism and suggestions are more than welcome. Let me know if you want me to add you to my tag list. I truly hope you enjoy it :)
Some of the characters portrayed in this story belong to Pixelberry Studios so they are borrowed. I don’t own “Open Heart” or any of the original characters.
__________________________________________________
Dr. Ramsey was standing outside his office with Dr. Banerji. The two men contrasted each other. Ethan was way taller and serious than his mentor, and Naveen was something that he liked to refer to as ‘fun sized’. From the nurses' station, Maya observed them. She had her head reclined on her arm resting on the desk. The two men were discussing something, probably about one of the cases that the diagnostics team was working on, but she was so far away that she couldn’t hear them or read their lips. She needed to talk to them but she didn’t want to interrupt anything important. Right when she was about to turn around and leave, Ethan chuckled at something Naveen had said. His mentor repeated something a little louder and Ethan’s smile grew to show all of his teeth. Damn, I would die for that smile, she thought.  Ethan smiling was a rare picture but she was so glad she stayed to be a witness of that miracle. She decided this was the perfect moment for what she was about to do, so she stood up straight, bit her bottom lip, and started walking towards the two men. Her heart beating faster and faster with each step.
“Chief.” Maya acknowledged Dr. Banerji before turning to the figure standing in front of him. “Dr. Ramsey.”
Ethan’s smile dropped. He stood straight fixing his tie, even though it was perfectly fine, and avoiding her eyes. Naveen didn’t waste any minute before hugging her.
“Congratulations Maya!! I wish you the best on this special day,” Naveen said as he held her tighter.
“Thank you, Dr. Banerji.”
“Ethan, aren’t you going to congratulate Dr. García? Today is her birthday.”
Ethan’s eyes fixed on his mentor’s face for a few seconds. Naveen simply raised his eyebrows in response.
“Of course,” Ethan said clearing his throat. “Congratulations Dr. García.”
Maya nodded in return. “Thank you.”
“But you have to give her a hug,” Naveen insisted pushing Ethan’s back in Maya’s direction. “C’ mon Ethan, you act like a kid,” he said as he felt some resistance from Ethan until his mentee finally gave up.
They were both standing right in front of each other. Ethan looked into her eyes asking for her permission. A small smile appeared on the corner of her mouth and she opened her arms. His strong arms closed around her rubbing her back while she buried her head in his chest. She could hear the fast beating of his heart and smell his cologne. The closeness, his arms around her, how familiar this moment felt. He closed his eyes and pulled her close to him smelling her hair, allowing himself to get lost in her arms for a moment. Maya closed her eyes trying to memorize every single detail of the hug that only lasted a few seconds for the rest of the world, but for Ethan and Maya, it felt like an eternity. An eternity of words unspoken. The noise of the hospital brought them back to reality and both tensed a little bit. Reluctantly, they broke their hug and lowered their heads slightly as they stepped away from each other. Maya turned to Dr. Banerji, who was smiling so hard that it was easy to see he was satisfied by the moment he just witnessed.
She cleared her throat before speaking. “I actually came here to invite you to a bar downtown, La Célula, it’s a Mexican bar. The food is amazing and the music is great. I’ll be celebrating with some friends and… it would… it would mean a lot if you two were there.” She concluded finally turning to see Ethan. His eyes focused on the floor as if he was looking for an excuse. Her heart shrunk a little. He would most likely decline her invitation and that would break her.
“You’re very sweet Dr. García but I’m too old for that,” Dr. Banerji replied laughing. “However, Dr. Ramsey doesn’t have any plans for tonight, right Ethan?” Ethan turned to see his mentor. His eyes fixed on Dr. Banerji’s face trying to decipher the meaning of his words.
“No.” He admitted in defeat finally looking back at Maya before Dr. Banerji got her attention again.
“Perfect! Then, you can go with Dr.García,” Naveen concluded.
“O-okay… I’ll text you the address. We’ll meet there at 9 pm,” Maya said in Ethan’s direction. “I’ll see you around Dr. Banerji,” She said as she hugged Naveen once again. “Thank you,” she whispered in his ear.
Dr. Banerji simply nodded as a response. “Have fun!” He smiled while turning to look at Ethan.
Maya smiled at them and turned to walk towards the locker room. Her smile growing the longer she walked. Ethan will be there. Meanwhile, Dr. Ramsey couldn’t take his eyes away from her. Her hips moving from one side to the other, her dark brown hair falling over her shoulders. It was going to be a long night for Ethan Ramsey.
Ethan was never the type of guy to go to his co-worker's birthday party. The more he distanced himself from the rest the better. He preferred being alone because the possibility of him getting hurt, or worse, hurting someone he cares about, was lower. The only person he had allowed to get close to him had been Naveen. The older doctor was more than a mentor to Ethan, he was a father figure. Ethan respected him and would do anything to make him happy, anything like going to a birthday party. Another person in his life was Harper Emery. Yes, they had dated but they were never in love. Or, at least not him. He respected her as a colleague and believed she was one of the most intelligent and strong women in her field. However, she wasn’t more than a friend to him. He never allowed her to see the real Ethan. That side of him had actually been hidden most of his life until recently.
When he met Dr. Maya García his world changed. Maya saw right through him and understood all the complexity behind the man called Ethan Ramsey. She made him vulnerable but he didn’t care. He still couldn’t believe that she had invited him to her birthday party. He acted cold because he wanted to keep his distance since they were both now part of the diagnostics team and she probably thought he didn’t know her birthday. Of course, he knew it. She had briefly mentioned it a few months back but he remembered. He remembered every single detail about his favorite intern.
They were supposed to meet at the bar at 9 pm but he had an emergency in the hospital and had to stay a little longer. It was 10:45 pm and he was barely going to his apartment to change and get Maya’s gift. A few months back during their flight from Boston to Miami for the conference, they got to know each other a little better. That was the day he discovered that her favorite flowers were sunflowers. A couple of months later while walking by one of the malls in New York when he attended another conference, he spotted a beautiful necklace with a gold sunflower. He couldn’t resist and he stopped in front of the glass and tried to imagine how her delicate neck would look with that necklace. He debated with himself if he should buy it or not. The obvious answer was a big, fat “NO”. How could he tell her that they needed to keep their distance and then buy her jewelry? It made no sense. But, his subconscious thought otherwise. He ended up passing through the same store a total of four times before he finally decided to go inside and look at the necklace more closely. I just want to look at it for a second, he had promised himself. After 10 minutes, he came out of the store with the necklace and matching earrings. He had contemplated giving her the gift after their first night together but it seemed a little too soon. Then, he thought about giving it to her after she successfully conquered her ethics hearing but their last night had a bittersweet taste for both of them and it just didn’t feel like the right time. Today was the perfect opportunity to finally give it to her. When he got to his apartment he took a quick shower, got dressed, and grabbed the little box containing the jewelry from one of his drawers and placed it in the inside pocket of his jacket.
He arrived at the bar two hours after he had promised. Afraid that she had gotten tired of waiting for him and decided to leave, he almost ran from the parking lot to the inside of the place. The place was big and full of people. In the center of the establishment, there was a small space where some couples were dancing to a Latin song that Ethan didn’t recognize. There were some pool tables and seating booths on the sides and finally on the back there was the bar. He walked towards the bar looking around for a familiar face, ignoring a couple of women who approached him, until he saw her. She was sitting on one of the stools by the bar. He could only see her back but that was enough. He could recognize her in any place. They could be in a room with a million people and his heart would still find her. They were magnets attracted to each other. He continued walking nervously fixing his leather jacket, which he hadn’t worn since his late twenties. I should have worn my sweater, I look so stupid in this jacket, he reproached himself. Classic Ethan. A few meters before finally reaching her, he was caught by surprise. She was wearing a red skirt dress with dozens of different flowers printed on it and black heels. He knew she was tall but this dress made her legs look incredibly long that he started to question if she had maybe grown a few inches in the last few days. Her hands were playing with a shot glass and her eyes were fixed on the table. He gathered his courage and approached her.
“Hey,” Ethan said when he was standing right behind her.
“Sorry, I’m not interes….” She began to reply as she turned her head to the person behind her. “Ethan! You made it!”
Maya stood up from the bar stool where she was sitting and jumped into his arms. To her surprise, he returned the hug without complaint.
“Of course, I told you I would come.”
“Well, technically Naveen was the one that said you would come,” her smile growing, she wasn’t able to hide how happy he made her. “Come, sit with me,” she padded the empty bar stool next to hers.
Ethan sat down next to her while she returned to her seat. It wasn’t the first time they were sitting next to each other but this night it felt different. For some reason, he was very aware of their closeness and her smell. God, her smell was invading all of him.
“I thought you had invited your friends,” he looked around the bar looking for familiar faces.
She was too focused on him to notice he was talking to her. This Individual looked different than the Ethan that worked at the hospital and she was living for it. Her eyes went from his face down to his leather jacket and back to his face. She realized he was talking to her.
“Uhh… yeah, I did. They came for some drinks and then left because they all have early shifts tomorrow.”
“And you stayed here? By yourself?”
“I was waiting for you. I knew you wouldn’t let me down,” she bit her lip while she placed the hair that had escaped her half ponytail behind her ear.
He stared at her lips. He had only been with her less than five minutes and he already was more than nervous than he had been in a long time. That was simply the effect she had on him. He took a small red box out of his pocket and placed it on the table in front of Maya.
“Happy birthday.”
Maya’s smile grew bigger.
“You didn’t have to buy me anything. Your mere presence would have been enough,” she teased him.
“It’s nothing,” he replied as he shrugged his shoulders. “I saw it at a store and I couldn’t stop imagining how it would look on you so I got it.”
Maya’s right hand reached for the box while she called the bartender with her left one. She placed her gift safely in her bag.
“Me podría traer cuatro caballitos de tequila, por favor?” The bartender nodded and left.
“Fours tequila shots? Don’t you have to go to work tomorrow?” Ethan questioned.
“No, It’s my day off.” The bartender came back with their drinks. “And these shots are not for me, they’re for you, I already had enough alcohol for tonight,” Maya replied as she pushed the shots in Ethan’s direction.
“What?!” Ethan started shaking his head, “No, no, I have to work tomorrow.”
“C’ mon Ethan, it’s my birthday, we have to celebrate. Please?”
Sigh. How could Ethan say no to that face?
“Fine. But you have to take at least one of them.”
“Fine, I can do that.” Maya picked up one of the glasses.
“To the birthday girl,” Both raised their glasses. Clink.
Ethan finished the first one and continued with the other two shots back to back. Liquid courage, Ethan thought.
“Damn! I didn’t know the always-professional-Dr. Ramsey could be this fun,” Maya said shocked but pleased to see Ethan relaxing more and more each moment.
“Rookie, even I know how to have fun once in a while.”
“I know.” Their eyes met for a few seconds before she cleared her throat. The depth of his blue eyes making her shiver, she turned away to look at the couples dancing. It wasn’t until she looked away from him that Ethan noticed the environment surrounding them. The music had changed from an energetic tune to a more calm song, and the couples on the dance floor were dancing closer together.
“My good love,
The truth is there is nothing else I can do,
You won’t change.
You won’t convince me that now everything will be fine.”
“I love this song!,” Maya jumped from her seat. “Uh, do you want to… dance?”
Her eyes sparked while she extended her right hand to Ethan. He didn’t answer. The silence increased her nervousness and she stopped breathing for a second afraid of what his response might be. Ethan was shocked by her question, his eyes wide open. He looked at her face, down at her hand, and back at her face again. Her hand was shaking. It was something Ethan was not used to seeing. He had seen her work on her patients, cleaning wounds and suturing injuries always with a confident hand. In this case, something was different, something he didn’t realize until she looked into her eyes. Each passing moment he could see her forehead starting to furrow,  the happiness in her face becoming fear, only a small step away from sadness. Her large brown eyes were starting to get glossy. She was afraid of rejection. Poor Maya, how much pain I’ve put her through to cause this reaction in her? He reproached himself. Ethan tried to say something but his mind was all over the place that he wasn’t able to articulate a coherent response. After a couple of seconds, he simply nodded and took her hand. A deep sigh, a sign of relief flooded her face. Maya relaxed her forehead and a small smile formed at the corner of her mouth. Without saying anything, she intertwined her fingers with his and guided him to the dance floor. Both walking between the couples to arrive at the center.
“Until when will you keep thinking that you can play to demand without giving anything in return?
Well now, I won’t be waiting.”
Standing in the middle of the dance floor, face to face, Maya put her arms around Ethan’s neck slowly getting closer to him. Ethan in return put both his hands around her back, just under her shoulders. His own shoulders stiff in response to her actions.
“Ethan, we’re not in middle school.” Maya chuckled as she moved her shoulders to signal to Ethan to move his hands lower. He indecisively moved his hands a few millimeters lower. That wasn’t exactly what Maya had in mind but she knew he was trying.
“Lower,” Maya insisted as she pressed herself even closer to him. Realizing how close their faces were, Ethan turned his face to the side and reluctantly lowered his arms to her waist.
“My good love,
If you don’t want to get back together,
Why do you keep coming back looking for me again?
Don’t ask me to give you one last night.”
They started dancing, slowly bouncing from one side to the other. Two steps in one direction and another two steps in the opposite direction. Ethan was still looking to the side, pretending to be watching the other couples dancing. Everything to evade her piercing brown eyes. Maya, on the other hand, couldn’t take her eyes away from him. They had seen each other almost every day in the last weeks since they worked together,  however, their schedules were always so busy that they rarely had time to be just two normal people. Today, they were not in the hospital and they had all the time in the word. Maya decided that her goal for tonight was memorizing every detail to replay this night in her head again and again once they were back in hospital mode. She wanted to remember how some pieces of his curled dark hair, and a few white hairs, fell on his forehead. The look on his face when he looked at her, the way his eyes sparked and jumped when they met her eyes for the first time that night. His perfect mouth, the lower lip slightly fuller than the top one. The heat of his hands on her waist and how his shoulders relaxed little by little the more thing they spent in each other’s arms.
“You’re staring,” Ethan observed.
“I was just wondering what you were thinking?”
“Oh…,” His eyebrows furrowed.” Why?”
“I’m just curious.”
The music continued moving them all over the dance floor. The way their bodies moved together, in such synchrony, it was beautiful to watch.
“Well, I’m happy to be here with you,” Ethan confessed after a moment.
“My good love,
It seems easy to you.
Walking away and then demanding that I love you as if I didn’t feel anything at all.”
His response made Maya’s smile. A smile that could light up the entire bar. A smile that made Ethan’s heart beat faster.
“I’m happy you’re here too.”
“The last few weeks have been stressful, we haven’t really talked about anything except the hospital.”
“That’s our job. The patients come first, remember?” Maya could feel how Ethan moved his hands lower and lower each moment until they stopped right before reaching her butt. Her cheeks blushed and she buried her face in his chest in an effort to hide the effect he had on her.
Ethan froze for a second when he felt her sudden move. Did he do anything wrong? A thousand things crossed his mind. Maybe she didn't feel comfortable around him anymore. Did he go too far? Calm down, Ethan. It’s only a dance, it’ll be over any moment now, he reassured himself. But that last part made his heart shrink. It will be over soon. The truth is that he didn’t want it to end. He could spend the rest of his life in this bar with the most amazing woman in his arms and he wouldn’t mind. Their closeness allowed Ethan to smell her hair. It was just as soft as he remembered and it smelled like strawberries. His arms hugged her tighter. He didn’t want to let her go. Their song came to an end and Maya squeezed Ethan one last time before opening her arms and stepping away from his chest, lowering her face and burying her emotions deep inside. Was that a tear? Ethan thought as he saw her turn towards the bar and wipe something from her cheek.
He didn’t know what it was. It could have been the alcohol. It could have been the song. Or it could have been simply the moment. But none of them was ready for it.
“Stay with me tonight.” Ethan extended his right hand towards Maya. She was starting to walk back to the bar and froze in the middle of the floor.
“Wh-what?” Maya asked turning around to face Ethan. “Like stay at the bar?” She was so confused. Her heart wanted to believe he was serious but her brain insisted she misunderstood him.
“Come home with me.”
Maya shook her head. “And then what? Tomorrow morning we go back to being Dr. Ramsey and Dr. García? You start ignoring me again and pretending nothing ever happens?!” Every word that came out of her mouth increased her tone.
Ethan was silent.
“I can’t do that again Ethan. I care about you but I can’t keep making myself vulnerable to you if you’re not serious about it.”
They stared into each other’s eyes for what seemed like an eternity. They both wanted it. They needed to be with each other. But, were they willing to pay the price?
Ethan opened his mouth several times but closed it right away trying to find a way to accurately explain what he was filling. After a few failed attempts, he finally spoke.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. Or the day after tomorrow. Or the following week. Or the following month. But I know what I need right now. You. I need you, Maya. All these weeks without being you, hugging you, kissing you, have been torture. Every day I would come home feeling empty. In the beginning, I didn’t know what it was. I took extra shifts thinking that maybe work could fill the void inside me. It didn’t. It was then that I realized only you can do it.”
Tears were running down Maya’s cheeks. She was shaking her head again. No, no. You can’t fall for it again Maya. But it was too late. Her subconscious took control of her hand and placed it over Ethan’s hand. He intertwined their fingers.
“I’m going to leave. I’ll be just outside that door. I’m going to count to 1 minute. Not a second more. You can join me if you want. But if you don’t come outside after one minute…” his sight moved to the floor. “I’ll understand the message and I won’t mention it ever again.” He placed a delicate kiss on the back of her hand and walked towards the main entrance, leaving Maya alone on the dance floor.
Maya could move, she was too busy trying to process what Ethan had just confessed. He wants to be with her. Back in the hospital when she found herself in difficult situations she always knew what to do. She had spent years studying and there was always a procedure to follow. This was unknown territory. Part of her wanted to run outside and tell him that she had missed him as much as he missed her. However, there was also a part of her that was afraid of what would happen if she made herself vulnerable again. She didn’t want to get her heart destroyed once more and following Ethan would mean putting herself at risk again. She just couldn’t afford to do it.
Ethan stood outside the bar with his back to the bar. His right leg unable to stop moving, partly because of the cold and partly because he was nervous. 45 seconds had already passed and there was no sign of Maya Garcia. The cool air surrounding him made him shiver. Every time the door opened he turned around hoping it would be his Rookie but he was always wrong.
55...56...57...58...59...59...59...59… with every number, his eyes began watering more and more. Ethan stood there like a kindergarten boy, repeating the same number over and over again. 60. Sigh. He was still alone. Tears began rolling down his cheeks. Maya had decided that she was better by herself and, even though it hurt, he understood. In the end, he had never been able to understand how such an extraordinary woman had decided he was worth the risk. He knew he wasn’t worth it and a small part of him was happy that Maya had finally realized that. The rest was heartbroken. He wished that he had the chance to show her how important she was to him. It was a lost cause and he knew it. Defeated, he started walking back to his car. He had only taken a few steps when the door opened. It’s not her. He didn’t bother to turn around.
“Hey! Ethan!” Someone behind him was calling his name. He turned around to see an image he would never be able to forget. Maya was running after him. She had stopped only a few steps in front of him. Her chest moving up and down rapidly. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. They stayed there a couple of feet away from each other but unable to move. Would words be enough?, Ethan thought. The answer was no. Words were not enough to express what both of them were feeling, it was just too strong. And in a moment she took the decision that would change their lives forever. Closing the distance between them, Maya jumped and placed her arms around Ethan’s neck. Their lips finally meeting again after all this time. After a second processing what was happening, Ethan extended his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him until there was no space for a single particle of air between them. The kiss was sweet but full of passion. So many emotions trapped inside them that were finally getting released. They stayed in each other’s arms for a long time. The world around them running its course, but they were trapped in their little moment of eternity with a kiss full of hope.

The Morning After (Ethan Ramsey x MC)
Title: The Morning After
Words: 2,225
Book: Open Heart
Characters: Ethan Ramsey x MC
Summary: This short piece takes place the morning after the first night they spent together. I wanted to see a scene like this since that episode but since it didn’t happen (not even in the final chapter), I decided to write my own. If you decide to give it a try, THANK YOU!! Any constructive criticism and suggestions are more than welcome. I truly hope you enjoy it :)
NOTE: This Tuesday I’ll be going on a week-long trip to the desert to work on a project for my lab so I might not have WiFi to upload any stories or reply to you during this time. However, please don’t hesitate to comment or message me if you want to. I’ll make sure to reply as soon as possible.
Some of the characters portrayed in this story belong to Pixelberry Studios so the characters are borrowed from them. I don’t own “Open Heart” or any of the original characters.
_______________________________________________________
The sun entered through the big window. Maya stretched her body as the sun reached her. It’s warmth reviving the paths that Ethan had drawn on her body with his lips the night before. Finally opening her eyes she looked at the clock on the nightstand, 7:15 am. She sighed. It was too early but she was used to her daily schedule at the hospital. She rolled to her left side and saw him. There he was. Ethan. FREAKING. Ramsey. He was still deeply asleep. His face looked peaceful, which was weird considering he was always angry at somebody in the hospital. Maya couldnʼt stop wondering if he was dreaming about their encounter the previous night because she certainly couldnʼt stop thinking about it. She swore she could still feel his hands on her wrists holding her in place. The burning sensation of his hands grabbing her thighs and carrying her to his bedroom. The determination in his eyes as he took her by the window. His confidence as his mouth kissed every inch of her body. His dedication to making sure that both of them reached their climax several times. If she closed her eyes she could still hear his deep moans and commands in her ear. She could hear how their breaths became more exasperated and their heartbeats accelerated. She opened her eyes again. She couldnʼt help but smile at the man sleeping next to her. He belonged to her and she belonged to him. The two missing pieces of the puzzle were finally together and there was nothing that could separate them.
Ethan was laying over his stomach. The gray bed sheet covered his lower half so she was still able to admire his strong back muscles and the tiny nail marks that were starting to disappear from his back, a result of their first night together. His hair, slightly longer than usual, fell over part of his forehead. His brows, which were often in a constant state of irritation, were now relaxed. His lips were slightly parted and she could see a little smile. She placed her hand under her cheek against the pillow and allowed herself to daydream. Is this what waking up next to Ethan every morning would be like? Because she didnʼt mind this view at all. Maya allowed her mind to travel to a different place and time. Both of them waking up with their bodies tangled after spending the night in each other’s arms. Showering together and taking longer than usual because they canʼt resist being so close without touching each other. Both of them sharing a cup of coffee in the morning before heading to the hospital. Stealing kisses here and there during their shifts in the hospital because it feels like an eternity the time they are apart. She was so happy that she even allowed herself to dream bigger. She saw herself with a growing stomach and Ethan by her side satisfying every craving she had. How would a baby change their dynamic? She imagined Ethan waking up in the middle of the night to sing to their crying baby. A baby. A little person. Half Ethan and half Maya. She dreamed that their baby would have Ethan’s eyes, his smile, his brown hair, his dedication, his strength. She giggled. She had to admit that the more Ethan the baby had the better. In the past, Ethan had told her that he didnʼt think it was possible for him to have a family but that was before he accepted his feelings for her and before he resigned from the hospital. It was possible that he had changed his mind since then. She had always known that she wanted a huge family and the idea of having Ethanʼs babies made her stomach feel warm. They could make it work. Once she finished her residency they could get married, buy a house, have kids. Everything was possible as long as they had each other.
A sudden movement brought her mind back to reality. Ethan was stretching his arms and legs. His eyes still closed. She moved closer to him and began to kiss his body starting by his lower back and moving up to his neck. He moaned in pleasure enjoying the sensation of her lips on his naked skin.
“If I knew I could wake up like this every morning I would have confessed my feelings for you sooner.”
“That wouldʼve saved us so much trouble,” she admitted as she played with his earlobe.
He turned his head towards her. Her brown eyes staring deeply into his blue eyes. Ethan shifted so his body was on top of her pushing her back against the mattress. Her red lips inviting him. Without hesitation, he kissed her. It started slow but it escalated fast, both of their tongues fighting for dominance. One of his hands cupping her cheek and the other one pressed against the bed for support.
Their mouths increasing the velocity with each passing second. His hand sliding from her cheek, passing over her breast and even lower holding her hip. They broke the kiss for a moment resting their foreheads against each other. They looked into each otherʼs eyes.
“Good morning handsome.”
“Good morning my love.” He pressed his lips with hers once again and she moaned against his mouth. She returned the kiss again and again. Her tongue dancing with his tongue in a piece full of passion and love. Their hands all over each other’s bodies. They had only been together for one night and they already knew each other perfectly. They could feel their need growing bigger and bigger. Maya grabbed his ass and pulled him closer towards her body. His lips reaching her neck and biting her sensitive spot. He started moving downwards. His mouth leaving kisses all over her body until he reached her breasts. He stopped to admire her for a moment. Could a woman be any more perfect than Maya García? It was not possible. She was a goddess and he still couldnʼt believe that she chose him. He took her left breast in his mouth playing with his tongue while his hand massaged the other one.
“Ethan…”
Ring ring.
“Please, don’t answer,” Maya ordered as Ethan continued playing with her breasts. She curved her back in his direction at the feeling of the slightest touch or kiss.
Ring ring.
“I think itʼs actually yours,” Ethan said as he raised his head and looked at the phone that was resting on his nightstand. “Maybe you should answer them, your roommates must be worried for you since you didnʼt go home last night.” She sighed.
“They’ll survive,” Maya responded in a whisper barely able to finish the statement. A growing sensation with each of his movements. She grabbed his head and pulled him towards her to kiss him.
Ring ring.
She groaned against Ethan’s mouth. Maybe he was right after all. He moved to free her from his hands and she reached the nightstand looking for her phone. 15 missing calls and 38 texts from her roommates asking if she was okay. She couldnʼt blame them, the last thing they knew was that she went to talk to Ethan and never came back. They probably thought something bad had happened to her. Or worse case scenario, Ethan had killed her and was now trying to hide the body. Part of this theory was right. Ethan was, in fact, killing her... with his mouth… with his hands… with the way he looked at her. She would have a hard time explaining everything to them. But first, she needed to define her situation with Ethan. It sounded simple but she had to admit that she was afraid of what he would say. Would they finally be a couple or not? She shook her head to make those thoughts go away. She felt so happy and complete that she didnʼt want to even consider the idea that even after everything they had been through to get to where they were now Ethan would still refuse to be with her. She turned off her phone without answering to any of the texts, her roommates could wait a little longer. Now she had more important things in her mind.
She turned to Ethan. “I think we left something unfinished,” she said as she moved her hand down Ethanʼs waist and grabbed between his legs. She kissed his body as she drew an invisible path down his chest to his hips and his thighs.
“I… umm...” was everything Ethan was able to say. Her hand felt so hot against his body that his blood began boiling as she slowly began moving her hand feeling all of him. He reached for her face and pulled her towards him. They kissed. A kiss full of emotions. Acceptance, need, longing, but mainly love and that was something that nobody could deny. And just like that, they got lost in each other once again.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Ethan hugged Maya and pulled her closer to him. Both resting with their eyes closed. Her body was over the right side of his chest and her right leg was wrapped over his leg. He was drawing small spirals in her back. Both of them awake but too focused on memorizing every single detail of their encounter. They wanted to remember this for the rest of their lives as a precaution of what the future had in store for them.
“I should probably go, tomorrow is my ethics hearing and I want to prepare as much as possible.” Maya was the first one to break the silence.
This caused Ethan to open his eyes. He hugged her even tighter as he remembered the difficult moment she was going through. He kissed her forehead and rested his face against the top of her head, smelling her hair and allowing her scent to fill all of him.
“I would give everything I have, my own career if it was necessary just so you wouldn’t have to go through this.”
Maya raised her head slightly as she listened to his statement. Their eyes met. She placed her hand over his heart.
“I know,” she assured him. “But I could never ask you to do something like that for me.”
Ethan opened his mouth to protest but she was faster.
“I was aware of what I was doing and I’m willing to respond for my actions. I have to be responsible.”
“I just… I just wish I could do something more to help you. I say I care about you but I’m not able to do anything good for you,” he confessed, lowering his head and evading her eyes. She could see anger appearing on his face.
“Hey,” she said lifting his face towards her so she could give him a soft kiss on the lips. His anger began to disappear. “You already promised you’ll be there tomorrow. Do you know how much your support means to me? You think you’re not doing enough, but this is more than I could ask for. Knowing that you’re there and that no matter what the result of the hearing is you’ll always have my back is enough for me.”
They looked at each other with an intensity that attempted to make up for the time they had wasted since the conference in Miami. She got lost in her deep blue eyes and he could stop thinking how lucky he was to have this woman by his side. He had to accept that he not only cared about her, he also loved her and he would die if it meant she didn’t have to suffer ever again in her life.
“Wow. You really should start getting dressed because all these words you’re saying are making me want to keep you in my bed the entire day,” Ethan admitted.
Maya chucked. She stood up and began picking up her clothes, which were scattered all around Ethan’s room. Ethan sat in his bed with his back against the headboard and rested his hands behind his head admiring her. She couldn’t stop smiling and blushing at the heat in his eyes. When she finished getting dressed, she sat next to Ethan on the corner of the bed.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.” She said while she placed her hand on his thigh.
“I’ll be there. Please, don’t let Declan or anybody else break your spirit,” Ethan asked while he places his hand over hers.
“I won’t”
“Will you text me when you get home so I know you’re safe?”
Maya nodded giving him a comforting smile. She leaned in closer to Ethan and both shared a deep kiss. Her hands moved to his hair and pulled it tightly. His tongue licked her bottom lip. Ethan held her tight hoping that by doing this he would also stop time so she could stay with him longer. It didn’t work. After several moments, both separated and she finally stood up to leave. Once she reached the door she turned around and blew a kiss in Ethan’s direction before disappearing through the door. His heart skipped a bit. How was he able to reject his feelings for her in the past? He was so enchanted by her that imagining a world without her seemed impossible to him.

Promise (Ethan Ramsey x MC)
Title: Promise Words: 1,919 Book: Open Heart Characters: Ethan Ramsey x MC
NOTE: Some of the characters portrayed in this story belong to Pixelberry Studios so the characters are borrowed from them; I don’t own “Open Heart” or any of the original characters.
Summary: This short piece takes place in Book 2. My MC is Maya García. After she joins the diagnostics team both Ethan and Maya have a hard time controlling their feelings for each other. After the Book 1 finale and the fact that MC now is part of the diagnostics team (and Dr. Ramsey is MC’s direct supervisor), I couldn’t stop asking myself how their relationship and dynamic will change after everything they’ve lived together. This is the result.
Hey everyone! Welcome to my page. The last year I’ve been obsessed with this app called Choices, and more recently I’ve fallen in love with the book Open Heart (especially with a certain grumpy doctor, aka Dr. Ethan Jonah Ramsey). After this Friday’s book finale I needed a sneak peek of Book 2, but let’s be honest it’ll probably be a while until we get the sequel. Therefore, I decided to take the matter in my own hands and write a little something mainly for my own entertainment. I’ve decided to share this small piece with all of you who are as invested in this book as myself. This is my first fanfic EVER, and I’m so excited to share it with all of you. If you decide to give it a try, THANK YOU!! Any constructive criticism and suggestions are more than welcome. I hope you enjoy it :) ______________________________________________________
Maya was sitting on the floor. Books and papers surrounded her, creating a spiral of confusion. She had been researching this case for more than 12 hours and she still couldn’t solve it. What was causing her patient’s chest pain? She had run all the possible tests and nothing seemed to show a possible cause. Even worse, she wasn’t even supposed to be working today. It was her free day and she had planned a relaxing day at her apartment. But, let’s be realistic. Her experience with Naveen’s case created in her a new passion. She had always wanted to help others; that was one of the reasons she became a doctor in the first place. However, this felt different. The adrenaline from solving an impossible case changed her completely. Every new case was a new adventure and she felt a necessity to solve the unsolvable. She was so concentrated reading a scientific journal that she jumped when the door was open abruptly. She raised her head to see the figure standing at the door.
“I’m sorry. I... didn’t know you would be here. I thought it was your day off.” Ethan stood by the door.
“It was, but I couldn’t stop thinking about this case. And when I realized I was already here surrounded by these,” Maya pointed to the papers around her.
“What are you doing here? I thought you enjoyed your coffee in your office.”
Ethan looked down at the cup of coffee he was holding in his hand and then back at her. For a moment he had forgotten about the coffee. That was the effect she had on him. When she was close she was everything he could think about. Her brown eyes. Her wavy hair and the way it fell on her shoulders. Her red lips, the bottom one slightly bigger than the other one. How brave she was and the passion that she had for her job. He realized he had been staring at her all this time.
“They’re finishing the construction happening next to my office and I hate the noise. I was looking for a quiet place and I thought this room was empty but it’s not… I’ll leave you alone… so you can continue working.” Ethan turned to leave.
“No, wait! I was going to take a break and… I wouldn’t mind having some company.” She smiled at him.
Ethan stopped at the door hesitating. Of course, she knew the effect she had on him. One hand still in the door handle and the other one holding his coffee refusing to look her in the eyes. Since Dr. Maya García had joined the diagnostics team their relationship was in a weird place. Ethan couldn’t have a relationship with her while he was her boss but he also couldn’t stop thinking about the times they had been together. How her hands felt on his skin. The warmth of her body close to his. The burning sensation of her kisses on his neck and back. He loved how she pronounced his name and the passion in her eyes whenever their eyes met. Working together the last couple of months wasn’t easy. There were some moments during the harder cases when he wanted to reach for her hand and squeeze it in reassurance. Other days when their case had a happy ending and he wanted to hug her and never let her go. But, of course, he never gave up to temptation. On the opposite, he tried to stay away from her as long as he could only interacting with her when it was necessary. Every moment with her not being able to actually be together killed him.
“Please, Ethan.”
Their eyes met. He looked at her at the sound of his name coming out of her lips. He took a deep breath and closed the door. Ethan walked to the middle of the room and sat next to her on the floor.
“Here,” Ethan said offering her the cup of coffee he was holding. She looked at him for a moment, a smile growing in the corner of her mouth.
“Thank you.”
Ethan nodded. “So, how can I help you? Tell me what you’ve learned about the case...” he said while picking up some of the several papers scattered on the floor. Maya shook her head while she tasted the coffee.
“No... I had enough of this case tonight…” she said while removing the papers from his hand while another sip to his coffee, “I want to distract myself. Let’s talk about something else.”
“And what do you want to talk about?” A silence emerged between both of them. She stared at him studying his face.
“How was your day?” Maya finally asked. She was nervously playing with the cup in her hands.
Ethan raised his eyebrows. Did she not understand the pain that it caused him to be open with her? How much it hurt to expose his soul to her when they couldn’t be together? He analyzed the best way to answer her question without making it personal.
“I was in meetings most of the day. Then, I saw a few patients in the evening. The interns were a pain in the ass, as always.”
“Did you miss me? Because I miss you every day.” The confession surprised Ethan so much that he almost choked.
“Maya...” he began explaining.
“I know, I know.” She interrupted him. “We need to keep a professional relationship. But, how do you expect me to go on with my life after the moments we’ve shared. And I’m not talking only about the sex. Don’t get me wrong, it is amazing.” She could see a blush in Ethan’s cheeks. “But we’ve shared amazing moments. Losses and victories. Our greatest fears and our biggest dreams. How can I pretend that never happened? Is there a medical treatment to erase this connection between us?”
Ethan sighed. “There’s nothing I wish more than having the answer to all your questions,” he replied. “If it makes you feel any better, it is to me as painful as it is to you.” His hand moved involuntarily reaching for hers. Her long fingers squeezed his hand. They watched as their fingers interlaced.
“Will this ever end?” Ethan asked after a long moment of silence.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Maya asked. She had been distracted memorizing the warmth of his hand. Until this moment she hadn’t realized how close they were seating. It would only take a second for her to reach him if she wanted to.
“The pain. Will it ever stop?” Ethan insisted.
Maya could see the suffering in his eyes and feel the need for an answer in his voice. His greatest weakness was that he never allowed himself to be happy; he always insisted on torturing himself and she hated that. He was the best man she had ever met and he deserved the entire universe. She raised her other hand to touch his face. Ethan hesitated for a moment but he finally rested his cheek on her palm. Maya wanted to comfort him somehow, to let him know that she was there for him. That they shared the same suffering. That she would always belong to him. She left the coffee on the table next to them and leaned closer towards him. Their lips almost touching. Their breaths all over each other. She wanted to kiss him so bad that it hurt. But she preferred the pain to not feeling anything at all because that would mean that she didn’t care about him. She leaned in closer and closer. She saw the hesitation in his eyes, he was about to say something stupid. He would say that he was her boss and they were better as colleagues than anything else. She had a bright future ahead and he didn’t want her to waste her time with someone like him. He thought she was too good for him and he didn’t deserve her. That’s what he had been repeating himself as an excuse to why he didn’t act on his feelings. Before he could say something he would later regret, Maya grabbed his shirt and pulled him towards her. Their lips, partly open, met in a kiss. They missed this. The warmth of their lips. How they fit perfectly with each other. He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her away softly.
“We… really shouldn’t.” He said catching his breath. He had been holding his breath during the kiss, his mind wondering if this was the right thing.
“I’m… sorry.” She let her head fall down in defeat attempting to hide the tears falling down her cheeks.
He hated seeing her like this. He knew that she was the most amazing woman he had ever met and he couldn’t live with the fact that he was causing her pain. He would rather die than hurt her. He grabbed her cheeks catching her tears with his thumbs. He would do anything to erase her pain. Holding her head tight he pulled her towards him and kissed her. She was surprised by his actions but didn’t want to question her luck. She opened her mouth welcoming him and deepened their kiss. She grabbed his neck and pulled him closer. Ethan moaned. He grabbed her hips and pulled her over him so she was straddling him. His hands moving all over her body, going to her back and down to her legs. She enjoyed the feeling of his body under hers. His mouth moved from her lips, down to her jaw, and even lower to her neck. He bit her neck and she moved her hands to his hair playing with it. She wanted to remain in his arms forever. Maya moved her hips against his. Ethan groaned in response. He grabbed her butt and pulled her harder against him. They were both breathing faster and faster each time. Need growing between them. They both knew they shouldn’t be doing this, but something that felt so good couldn’t be wrong, right?
“CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE! Room 234!”
Loud voices outside the room brought them back to reality. They froze for a moment catching their breaths. Ethan looked down at his pager.
“I have to go.”
Will it end just like that? Will they go back to pretending like nothing happened just like the other times? He was analyzing her face. Ethan saw fear in her eyes. She didn’t have to tell him because he already knew what she was thinking. She was getting ready for his rejection. Ethan reached for his pocket. He took a deep breath.
“Here.”
“What is this?” Maya questioned confused by the set of keys that Ethan took out of his pants.
“I have to see a patient.” He kissed her again. “But you can wait in my apartment while I finish my shift. I’ll be there as soon as possible.”
“You promise?” She asked while grabbing the keys from his hand.
“I promise.”
She gave him one last kiss and he stood from the place where they had been sitting. He walked to the door and placed his hand on the door handle. Before opening the door he turned to look at her.
“I’ve missed you too. More than you can imagine.” He said as he winked at her and exited the room. A smile began growing on her face. A smile full of hope for the future. Is this even real? Will this finally be their happy ending?
