Halloween Costumes
Tumblr media
I love dressing up, and Halloween has always been my excuse to dress up myself and my kids. My oldest two boys have kinda outgrown it for now, but my little one still lets me dress him up.  Bug’s a drunk Syracuse fan, and I’m a saloon girl. He laced up my corset so tightly, I could barely breathe let alone sit. But it was fun.  My little guy is a zombie.  Have a safe and happy Halloween!

wanderlust
It’s a problem when your whole family has wanderlust.  For the past few nights, Bug and I have discussed and researched our next vacation. We’ve tossed around Marrakech, Tangiers, Gibraltar, Southern Spain, Portugal, and our standard go-to’s.  My oldest son wants to see as much of Europe as possible. His choice cities: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, Venice, Florence, Rome,…

my nomadic heart
I’ve kissed under the glow of the Eiffel Tower. I’ve danced the night away at Versailles. I’ve held hands up and down the winding streets of Prague. I’ve drank champagne on the beach in Nice. I’ve explored the canals of Amsterdam. I’ve yatched the coast of Croatia. I’ve inhaled pasta in Rome, hiked the Cinque Terra, glided down Venice’s canals, and marveled at Florence’s beauty.  I’ve had tea in…

wrong, wrong, wrong
Tumblr media
I saw this making the rounds on PInterest. It makes me so angry. This is what some people are teaching our girls – that they are merely pretty things to look at and be possessed by a man. A girl should not be like a butterfly, all fragile and delicate – a thing of fleeting beauty that fades quickly than loses it only worth. And what about the other side that implies that a girl who isn’t a…

Bullet journal
If you’re anything like me, staying organized can be a challenge – especially if you’re juggling school, work, family, sports, and just life. I’ve recently started bullet journaling in a basic way, and it’s made a HUGE difference in keeping me on track.  Here’s a video of my basic journal. It’s not flashy like some, but it’s a good starting place. xoxo ~dawn…

My Secrets Lies Dirty Little Alibis Playlist
My Secrets Lies Dirty Little Alibis Playlist
One of my favorite things about writing (after interacting with fans and actually writing) is creating the perfect playlist. Admittedly, I can’t listen to music while writing These Little Lives – it’s too heavy and requires my full concentration. But for Secrets Lies Dirty Little Alibis (Kiss Kill Love Him Still #3), I’ve been listening to the following. On repeat, hour after hour, day after day.…

Dear You
Dear You, It must be hell having to see me again. I know I wish you’d just go away. But you came back, and now I have to deal with you.  A lot has changed this past year. I’m happier, found my footing, and feel comfortable in my skin again.  You look tired and frazzled, and like you don’t want to be here. I don’t blame you. Everyone knows the truth about you. Everyone knows.  So dear anxiety, I…

Croatia: the final verdict
Tumblr media
We’ve been home for two days now and have had time to process our vacation. With a resounding ‘yes,’ we all agree that Croatia was one of our favorite vacations. The people, food, beaches, and history made for an excellent trip. But as with every trip, I like to break down what I would do differently and what I’d do the same. Things I’d do the same: Stay with AirBnB. We used them in Paris and San…

Croatia Days 12, 13, and 14 - anchors away!
Croatia Days 12, 13, and 14 – anchors away!
Tumblr media
Since I went over my data plan a few times, and wifi wasn’t always available, I haven’t been able to post.  On Thursday, we decided to head to Samorska. On the way, we stopped at Bol Beach on Brac Island. We were all in heaven, and the beach, with its umbrellas, chairs, and rocks reminded me of Nice. No champagne on the beach, though. But that was fine since we seemed to have a never ending…

Croatia Days 10 & 11
Tumblr media
Early in the morning, we went back to the submarine bay, and the boys paddle boarded, and Finn promptly belly flopped onto the board.  We then packed up and sailed to Palmizana. There was a little, rocky beach on opposite side of island with umbrellas and chairs. We didn’t stay long though because the boys thought the water was too cold.  Later that night, Ben taught Finn rummy while Bug and…

Croatia Day 9: Vis a Vis
Tumblr media
We set sail from Stari Grad on Hvar and made a 3 hour trip to Vis this morning. The sea was rolling, and unfortunately, Finn got seasick. At least he made it to the back of the boat… I’d been told Vis was beautiful, having been cut off from tourism for 50 years due to it being a military island. I had no idea.  Pulling into port, we were greeted with this: After docking, Ben killed us with…

Croatia Day 8: Stari Grad
Tumblr media
Happy Father’s Day. As I type, I’m watching Bug and the boys attempt to play in the Adriatic. Apparently, it’s a little cold for David’s liking. 😂 I woke this morning to the sun shining through my berth’s porthole and the sound of breakfast being prepared. When I emerged from my room, everyone except Keegs was sitting down to breakfast. Ben had prepared eggs, cereals, yogurt, and bread for us. …

Croatia Da 7: I'm on a boat
Croatia Da 7: I’m on a boat
We finally made it to the part of the trip I’ve been looking forward to the most: sailing the Adriatic along the Dalmation coast. We’re visiting Hvar, Brac, and Vis. Our boat is great, and our Skipper, Ben, a nice 20-something. The boys love him.  The water is beyond beautiful, but a little chilly, and the coastal towns dot the landscape with terra cotta roofs against a clear, blue sky. I wish I…

Croatia Day 6: Down Time
Tumblr media
Okay, so I get that all of vacation should be down time, but we love the hustle and bustle of cities. That’s why we chose San Francisco and Paris as homes. Bug and I both thrive in a faster paced lifestyle.  However, there comes a point where you need an action time-out, and today was ours. We woke up late, lazed around, ate breakfast, and finally walked downtown for lunch.  Yesterday, we dealt…

Split Personality
Tumblr media
Today, we met with Stella, our guide through old town Split. I thought our tour might not happen though, because on our way there, the wind whipped up and it began to pour. Fortunately, it quickly stopped, and we found Stella waiting for us outside the southern gates of Diocletian’s Palace. Built 4th century AD as a retirement palace for the emperor Diocletian, modern day homes and shops have…
