Katie hanging out with Conor McGregor is REALLY not a good look for her, especially in the eyes of the Irish
He has an awful reputation after being arrested numerous amounts of times recently and is heavily linked with large drug and crime gangs
Girl needs some PR advice rapidly :/

Warm Embrace (Leah Williamson x Reader)
Tumblr media
Authors Note: Just something short and sweet that I wrote in less than an hour to celebrate us FINALLY winning a trophy again! Enjoy!
————————————————————————
“Please Katie, I’m begging you to stop” Leah shouted from beside you as Katie topped up her drink with a large measure of vodka and added barley enough Pepsi to dilute it.
You were all on the bus home after winning the Conti Cup final against Chelsea and the drinks were flying.
You could say it had been a tough few months for you all as a team and that would be an understatement. So many members of the squad were dealing with personal issues and it was showing in your performances on the pitch.
Throughout it all however, you remained each other’s rocks. That was the thing about Arsenal. It was a family. You all dragged each other through the hardships and celebrated together in the good times.
Players like Viv and Beth were experiencing tough times with their ACL injuries along with the monumental grief at losing Beth’s mother June to Ovarian cancer.
A loss like June’s was felt throughout the whole team and the sadness and pain at losing a member of the Arsenal family way before their time stung even more in moments like this when they weren’t here to celebrate with you.
All you can do however is hope you’ve made them proud and mark the occasion like you know they would want you to- with a big celebration together, making memories that will last.
“Leah just shut it and drink the drink” Katie said with a cheeky grin while handing Leah the concoction she had just made for her.
“Y/n whatcha havin’?” Katie said as she turned around to grab a plastic cup and start on your drink.
“Whatever Leah’s havin’ but an awful lot more mixer please!” You reply back to her with pleading eyes
“Of courseeeeeee it’s ‘whatever Leah’s having’” Katie says back with a wink and cheeky grin on her face.
The music is blaring but that gets a round of jeers from all the girls
“What age are ya Katie? 10? Just make my drink and leave me be!” You quip back to the Irish winger while rolling your eyes and feigning annoyance
You and Leah had been together for over 2 years but your relationship was still a point of amusement for a lot of the girls, especially in moments like today when you and Leah were basically piled on top of each other on the bus and everyone has alcohol in their system. Apparently wanting the same drink as your girlfriend is extremely amusing.
“Your wish is my command” says Katie as she reaches over her seat and hands you your drink
“Thanks mate” you say as you gladly accept it
You turn to face Leah, well as much as you can turn in your cramped space, given the seating arrangements.
You are at a table seat sat with your back against the window, facing out towards the isle with Leah next to you on the outside seat and Caitlin and Steph across from you both.
It doesn’t end there tho, as Beth is sat on the table between you with her back against the window. Katie and Laura are in the seats behind you, stood up and leaning over the back so they can chat to you all. It’s pure chaos and that’s only one small section of the team bus.
Leah was on music duty and the massive speaker which she wheels around with her has taken pride in the back row of seats along with all the alcohol and mixers which Katie is claiming as her bar station.
“Cheers!” You say to Leah as you reach across her to bring your drinks together
She turns her head towards you while bring your drinks together and flashes you her million dollar smile while leaning closer to you. It takes everything you have not to kiss her right there and then but you stop yourself, wanting to avoid anymore slagging from your teammates.
Leah settles in against you with her back resting against your outside leg and your arm strewn over her shoulder with your palm resting on her chest.
She pulls out her phone to queue a few more songs that she knows will keep the celebrations going and you watch over her shoulder in a state of complete contentment.
When she opens Snapchat you are immediately met with her front camera capturing your current position and Leah tilts her head back to look at you.
“It would be rude not to” she says, as she nods towards her phone, indicating that it’s the perfect opportunity for you both to grab a selfie.
“Can’t miss an opportunity like this!” You laugh back as you grab your medal and put the edge of it between your teeth
Leah laughs at your choice of pose and immediately copies you while she settles back against you and gets ready to snap the picture.
She takes the picture and saves it to her camera roll while also uploading it to her private snapchat story which consists mainly of the Arsenal and England girls.
“Send me that asap, we’re cute” you say, taking a large swig of your drink and wincing at the taste before taking your own phone out to receive the photo from Leah
“Jesus Christ Katie that drink is straight fucking vodka! Are ya tryin’ to poison me or what?” You say turning your head to face and scold your fellow Irish woman
“Y/n that’s the thickest Irish accent I’ve ever heard, we need to get you drunk and angry more” Beth said leaning towards you while laughing and hitting your shoulder.
“Oh no, believe me you’ve not heard her thickest accent until she’s with her family. I thought I was gonna have to hire a translator the first time they stayed with us” Leah exclaimed while looking up at you with a grin
“Alright alight, but it was voted the sexiest accent in the world so I’d say you’re not really complainin’ Leah are ya?” Katie says with her toothy grin while ruffling your hair.
The whole bus erupts once again in jeers “swit swoo” and “oi oi” chants while you go red and Leah covers her face while leaning closer to you.
“Okay enough of that now, Katie I think it’s about time you topped up our drinks” Leah says sitting up, downing her drink and then handing her now empty cup to the Irish woman. She turns to you and motions for you to down yours too, as she hands it over to Katie.
The Irish woman goes to refill the drinks while Leah moves to the speaker and you finally get the chance to stretch your legs out in front of you on Leah’s seat and look at the selfie she has sent of you both.
You look at it for a moment and think it may just be your favorite photo of the two of you.
You go straight to instagram to post it, stopping for a second trying to decide whether or not to post it to your story or your main grid. You quickly make the decision that it deserves a permanent place on your profile and go to create the post.
It’s probably the adrenaline mixed with the alcohol that makes you post it given that you and Leah do your very best to keep your relationship private, but in that moment you don’t care and you know Leah won’t either. You want to show the world just how happy you are to have finally won a trophy as a Gooner and to be doing it by Leah’s side.
You tag Leah and come up with a quick caption, clicking “Post” and immediately placing your phone back in your pocket, waiting for chaos to ensue on Woso social media.
y/n_y/l/n1:
Up the Fucking Arsenal❤️🤍 @ leahwilliamsonn
You settle back into your original position, grinning, as Leah comes back to her seat, once again snuggling against you but this time further back into your chest.
“What are you all smiley about?” She queries with a single raised eyebrow and a suspicious look on her face.
“Check insta” you say while resting your chin on her head and bringing both your hands around her shoulders to meet at her chest as she settles into your warm embrace.
Leah quickly pulls out her phone, her eyes going wide and sees the hundreds of notifications coming through. She turns promptly, shooting you a glaring look which quickly turns soft when she meets your loving gaze.
You know she’s not angry at you for posting it and it’s more a look of relief that washes over her, knowing that she can now also post the picture publicly too.
“Just giving the fans what they want!” You say into her ear, as you both carry on enjoying the celebrations together, and with your teammates.

Hearts & Minds (Leah Williamson x Reader)
Chapter 5: Something About you
Tumblr media
It’s about 8am when you’re awoken from your deep sleep which you were thoroughly enjoying.
When you notice the time you internally groan and reach for the glass of water on your bedside locker in the same movement.
It’s about 2 hours earlier than you were hoping it would be, given you and Laura had only stumbled into the house a mere 6 hours ago.
Now that you were awake you knew there was no chance of getting back to sleep, especially given the fact that you were yet to buy a blind for your window and the August sun was lighting up your whole bedroom.
You’re awake less than a minute before your head starts to hurt and you begin to recall the events of the night before.
You hadn’t drank enough last night to have considered yourself drunk, but you definitely drank more than you had in a long time and you were feeling the effects this morning.
Picking up your phone you see a few new notifications from instagram and WhatsApp and you suspect this may be the reason for you waking up so early.
Most of the WhatsApp messages consist of the girls sending pictures throughout the night and also messages to assure other teammates that they had made it home safely.
You scroll through them, stopping occasionally to laugh at a few
[03:37] Katie: I’m home but I don’t know how I got here hehe
[03:41] Lia: Katie I literally walked you and Rue to your door and opened it for you?!
[03:42] Caitlin: Where r u Lia?
[03:43] Lia: I’m walking up the stairs, please go to sleep🙃
You let out a giggle at Lia and Caitlin’s exchange while rolling your eyes at the fact that McCabe has no idea how she got home. The girl puts Irish drinking stereotypes to shame.
The next message in the group is the one you suspect woke you up. It’s a picture from Leah.
[08:06] Leah: Attached one image
“We scrub up well😘”
It was a team photo taken around the couch in the living room last night just after you and Leah had returned in from outside.
You quickly spot yourself in the photo leaning against the edge of the couch and focus in on Leah’s arms thrown around your shoulders from behind.
You remember exactly how that situation came about. Leah had been standing at the edge of the photo beside you before Ruesha, who was taking the photo, had yelled for her to go behind to avoid being cut out.
You have no idea what compelled her to throw her arms over your shoulders but you weren’t complaining then, and definitely are not complaining now once you see the result of the photo.
You save the photo to your phone and have a quick look through your camera roll to see if you have anything to contribute to the group.
You send in three pictures to the group chat, all consisting of the girls in action, giving their best performances during the various songs that played throughout the night.
No sooner than you’ve sent the pictures into the group, you quickly swipe to the left to see if they’ve been seen by anyone.
Immediately Leah Williamson’s name flashes in the ‘read’ section, unsurprisingly since she had just sent a picture in two minutes before that. You would hazard a guess that you two were the only members of the chat awake and conscious at this time of the morning, and after last night’s events.
What does surprise you however is what happens next. Leah Williamson’s name flashes on your phone again, but this time it’s a private message.
Leah: Hey! Reassuring to know someone else is alive and kicking this morning! Still on for lunch today? I haven’t forgotten my promise to give you the best tour possible of you’re new home :)
You sit up further in your bed to focus on the message in front of you. You won’t lie and say the simple message from Leah doesn’t have an effect on you. Suddenly your pounding headache is a thing of the past and it’s replaced by a feeling you’ve not felt before.
You can’t tell whether is one of excitement or anticipation, but the simple message from Leah has your mind racing.
You had briefly forgotten about the plans the two of you made last night, and quite frankly even if you had remembered them, you sure as hell thought Leah wouldn’t have.
This was Leah Williamson. Just 2 week’s previous the girl had captained England to tournament success and lifted the Euros trophy in front of nearly 90,000 fans in Wembely Stadium.
Why was she suddenly taking an interest in you? As far as you were concerned you were a nobody when it came to the women’s footballing world. Sure, you had just signed for Arsenal but you had everything to prove yet and the season hadn’t even started.
You had a mere 8k followers on Instagram while Leah had 600k plus. Surely she had better things to be at on a sunny Sunday in August than bringing a new teammate out to lunch and showing them around London?
Pushing your thoughts of inferiority to the back of your mind, you type out a reply to send to Leah.
Y/N: ‘alive and kicking’ is not the term I would use to describe myself right now🙃 but yes, I am definitely still on for today as long as it suits you? Don’t want to be taking Ms.Captain herself away from any duties?😆
You hit send on the message and face your phone down on your bedside locker, deciding you need to get out of bed and get your day started before the hangover catches up with you.
You head to the bathroom to freshen up, thanking last night you for deciding to take your make up off when you got home. You quickly brush your teeth and run through your basic skin care routine which consists simply of water followed by moisturizer.
You decide against having a shower yet as you have had the excellent/terrible idea of going for a run to flush out any toxins left in your body from last night and clear your head for the day to come.
Making your way out of your bathroom, you make sure to leave your phone where it is on your locker, needing to get on with your day before seeing if Leah had replied. You had only met the girl for the first time yesterday. You had to stop her consuming all your thoughts before it got too much too soon.
Heading down to the kitchen to grab a quick bite to eat, you stop briefly outside of Laura’s door to see if you can sense any sign of life from the defender. You are met with radio silence and come to the conclusion that she must still be dead to the world after last nights antics.
Weatabix is your choice of breakfast and you force it down yourself like a toddler would with their vegetables. You are in no mood to eat but you know you’ll need some sort of energy for your run.
You change into your running gear, choosing your black Nike tank top and shorts paired with your grey runners. You grab your AirPods from the drawer in your room and finally head over to pick up your phone.
You see Leah has replied to your earlier message and you quickly open WhatsApp, eager to see what she’s said.
Leah: No I’ve penciled you in for a few hours so don’t worry about my schedule😉 I’m heading to give an interview with BBC now but will be free from 12:00 onwards if that suits? I’d rather be doing anything than this interview so pray for me🥲
You laugh at Leah’s message and begin typing out your reply
Y/N: Thanks for booking me in, I’ve heard how tough it is to get an appointment😋 I’m heading on a run now so I’d swap places and do a BBC interview in a heartbeat, although I’m not sure they’d have much to talk to me about haha!
Clicking send you wait a minute to see if Leah will reply. Sure enough she’s read and replied to your message within a few minutes of you sending it.
Leah: How are you in any state to be able to run?😮 I applaud you👏🏻 I’ll give you a text when I’m done the interview and send you the location of the cafe I’ve picked, the food is😍 enjoy the run :)
You sit smiling at your phone after Leah’s latest text. The girl sure does love emojis. You never would have thought at the beginning of the week that you would end up with plans to spend your Sunday with Leah Williamson but here you are.
She clearly wants to spend time with you too and that’s what confuses you even more.
Does she do this with all the new signings or was it just you she was taking a specific interest in? Maybe she’s just being friendly you think to yourself?
Switching from WhatsApp to Spotify, you put an AirPod in each ear and head outside into the blistering sun to get your run over with for the day.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////
It’s 12.30 when you open the door of the quaint cafe Leah has chosen for your lunch.
You quickly scan the small space in front of you and see the blonde defender sat in the back right corner, in a two seater table against the wall.
Making your way over you are filled with nerves at what the next few hours will bring.
At this stage you are beginning to realize that you have a big crush on the English defender.
You’ve not felt the things you feel when you are around her with anybody before this and you can only chalk it down to being a little bit too head over heels for her.
Sure you’ve only known her a few days but your exchanges last night at the party and today again over text are enough to have your mind in overdrive and your heart feeling all sorts of things.
As you are reaching the table Leah looks up from her phone and gives you a big grin. She’s dressed casually and suitable to the scorching weather outside, wearing baggy grey cotton shorts and a white Nike tshirt.
You had also gone for a casual vibe deciding on black shorts and a white graphic t shirt.
“Hey!” Leah says with a smile as you pull back your chair and take a seat across from her.
You exchange greeting, settling into comfortable conversation as you pour yourself a glass of water from the jug in front of you.
“How was the interview with the BBC?” You query
“The same as every interview I’ve given the last 2 weeks……long, tiring, but ultimately rewarding” she says with a bit of a smile but you can see just how burnt out she is
“I feel bad having these thoughts about the interviews, like I know I am in such a privileged position and I know it’s amazing the amount of publicity and media attention we are getting since we won…. but sometimes I wish they’d interview someone else” she continues, really expressing how she feels about the last two weeks.
You let her words register for a second before replying
“I get you 100% Leah. I can’t say I know what it’s like, but I can definitely understand how much of a seismic change it must be for all of you at the moment” you say giving her a genuine look of sympathy
“I’m sorry, I don’t know why I’m dumping all of this on you, I was meant to be helping you settle in, not add to your stress” she says followed by a nervous laugh
“Please Leah, I’m glad you feel you can say these things to me, it’s always a help to get worries off your chest, I’m happy to lend an ear” you say, maintaining eye contact and giving her a closed mouth smile.
She smile back at you, a silent thank you and both of you stay in the moment, eyes connected, until your interrupted by the waitress bringing your plates of food to the table.
You had gone for a Club sandwich while Leah went with a chicken wrap. You both lightly converse about the previous nights events and your first week at Arsenal while eating.
When you finish your food you decide to get an iced coffee to go, Leah opting for a smoothie, as you both exit the cafe, out into the sunny St.Alban sun.
“So where to next Williamson?” You say walking towards the footpath in front of you both
Leah follows closely behind you, saying she wants to take you to the local park, stating there’s a really nice walking trail through the woods.
You’re both head in the direction of the park, talking about this and that until your phone buzzes in your pocket and you quickly check to see who’s messaged you.
Mom: How is your day going? Up to anything nice on your day off?
Your mom had been worried about you and how you were coping with the move so she made it her mission to regularly check in with you. You put your phone back in your pocket without replying yet and turn your attention back to Leah.
“My mom’s just text to see if I’m up to anything today. I wonder what her reaction would be if I told her I was currently being taken to the woods by someone I’d just met yesterday” you say to Leah, flashing her a big smile from your position to her right
“Oh give over Y/n! If I remember correctly it was you who was literally stalking me last night at the party or am I making things up?” She hits back laughing and leaning in towards you, lightly bumping your shoulder with hers
“Fair enough I’ll give you that one, but it’s not my fault we’re so similar and basically did the exact same things all night!” You say
“We are quite alike now that I think about it” Leah says, as if she’s just realized this for the first time
You continue down the street, taking a right that leads you both over the bridge and you can see the entrance to the woods and the walking trail ahead.
Just as you are both getting closer to the trail you are suddenly pulled out of conversation by someone shouting Leah’s name.
“Leah!, Leah!” He says
You both look around and soon find the source. It’s a family walking their dog just up ahead of you both.
The dad approaches you both with a big grin on his face.
“Could we grab a quick picture with you Leah? My little girl is a massive football fan” the dad says referring to his daughter who is stood shyly behind him, obviously a bit star stuck at meeting Leah
The girl must be around 10 years old and you smile as her father motions for her to move towards Leah.
“Of course you can!” Leah says as she flashes a grin to the little girl.
“Do you want me to take it so you can get in too?” You say to the girls father.
He happily obliges and hands you his phone as you take a few pictures of Leah with the little girl and her beaming dad.
You can tell the child is absolutely starstruck as Leah engages in conversation with her about her football team.
You are in awe at Leah’s ability to give all her attention to this young girl and make the moment so special for her
“And who do you support?” Leah asks the little girl
“Arsenal!” She replies with a grin on her face
“That’s what I like to hear. Did you know Y/n over here is our newest signing, she’s going to scoring loads of goals this year. Maybe you should get a picture with her before she tears up the league?” Leah says with a smirk, motioning for you to come closer towards the three of them
“Do you mind if we grab a photo?” the dad says towards you
“Sure, no problem” you say, still a bit dazed at Leah’s praising comments and at the fact that you were having your first fan interaction
You pose for a photo with the little girl and then Leah joins you both for one last picture.
You both say goodbye with the promise to look out for your new Number 1 fan at the next home game as you and Leah begin your walk through the woods.
“That’ll be all over social media later” Leah says
“Really? I doubt the kid is even old enough to have an account” you respond
“Probably not, but the dad will post it on his instagram and tag me. Give it about an hour and some fan will have found it and shared it around twitter. By the end of the day you’ll be shipped as my new girlfriend” Leah says sighing as if she’s seen this scenario play out time and time again.
“Hey, if it gains me a few more instagram followers won’t it be worth it?” You say with a laugh trying to lighten the mood
“Haha at least something good will come out of it!” Leah says, cracking a smile.
You both continue down the trail, basking in the shade you are getting from the trees all around you, a welcome break from the blistering sun.
“So tell me something about you that not everyone knows” Leah says out of nowhere
You are silent for a second, the question catching you off guard. This morning you had thought your day with Leah would just be about getting to know your new home but you were beginning to think her intentions were just to get to know you better.
“Erm……” you start, unsure of how deep Leah’s question should be interpreted as
“I can’t swim?” You offer up with a smile, playing it safe with your answer.
“Really y/n? That’s what you went for? I’m trying to get to know you here!” She’s says dramatically, letting out a laugh
“Hey it’s not my fault you asked such a vague question, I didn’t know how deep you wanted me to go!” You say as you both continue walking the trail side by side
“Okay okay, maybe I’m jumping the gun. I know we’ve only know each other a few days but we seem to get along and I suppose I just want to get to know you better?” Leah responds holding her hands up defensively but still in a joking manner
You can’t tell whether Leah is just the kind of person that likes to personally get to know all the new signing or if she is someone that wears her heart on her sleeve. What you do know is that you feel incredibly comfortable around her and don’t mind opening up.
“Okay well….how about the fact that I started taking anti anxiety pills at the start of this year?” You say to Leah as she quickly turns her head to you in shock
“Y/n, I had no idea, I’m sorry if I seemed too pushy, please don’t feel you have to talk about it” she responds with a look of remorse on her face
“No seriously it’s okay! I actually think there is such a stigma around mental health and even your reaction, although in no way malicious just shows how much of a taboo issue it still is” you say
“That’s not what I meant, but you know what? You are so right about it not being talked about enough” Leah responds
Silence falls among you both for a few seconds as you ponder whether to continue talking about your mental health issues with Leah, while also waiting to see if she is going to continue the conversation
“It was a lot of my own doing to be fair. I know people may call it victim blaming and say that mental health doesn’t discriminate, which is true but I know for a fact it has a lot to do with the environments we put ourselves into and the people we associate with” you say
“At the beginning of the year I was facing into my final semester of my uni degree, competing for the league with my team, and just breaking into the Ireland international set up, all while trying to navigate my first serious relationship” you continue as Leah listens attentively and let’s you speak
“I was living away from home and being pulled and dragged at all ends. It’s the times when everyone thinks you have it all worked out and things are going well for you that are the loneliest. I suppose I just couldn’t handle the stress and as a result developed severe anxiety” you say
“And how are you coping now?” Leah responds
“This summer has been so healing for me. Once I was diagnosed the first thing I did was end my relationship. I thought that it would help to have one thing less to worry about but it only made things worse and actually cause me more guilt and stress.”
“Since finishing up in college I’ve been a lot happier and also speaking to a psychologist that works with our international team has really helped. That was one of the cons about playing in the league in Ireland, my team just didn’t have those kinds of resources in place” you say
“You know, Arsenal have a team of psychologists that are so easy and approachable. They’ve helped me immensely in the past few years” Leah says looking over at you
“I don’t think I would have been able to perform or lead the way I did at the Euros if it wasn’t for my weekly visit to my psychologist and that’s the honest truth” Leah continues, giving you a genuine look.
“It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who has these kinds of feelings” you say, looking over at Leah and giving her a closed mouth smile.
“Seriously y/n, I know for a fact so many of the girls regularly speak to the psychologists. But you are right, maybe it’s something we need to be more open to each other about. Talking is the best medicine” Leah says
“Well, why don’t we make an agreement here to always be open and honest with each other about how we are feeling and doing? Then at least that way it’s a problem halved straight away” you say
“Deal” Leah says, offering you her hand out as you seal your agreement with a shake
“Now, moving onto lighter topics……how on earth are you in your 20’s and still not able to swim?!” Leah says, looking at you perplexed as you both laugh and fall back into easy conversation, while continuing through the woods.
You don’t know if you feel better or worse for sharing something so personal with Leah, only time will tell. For now, you were just going to enjoy the rest of your day of getting to know St.Albans, but more importantly, getting to know Leah Williamson.

Authors Note: Happy Christmas & New Year! This update is a bit heavy, but I wanted to touch on an important topic that exists, but are not always spoken about. This subject will be an important aspect of Y/n and Leah’s relationship going forward. Once again, thanks for reading!😚

Hearts & Minds (Leah Williamson x Reader)
Chapter 4: Chaos and Art
Tumblr media
The party only gets wilder after 10pm hits and everyone decides to move indoors to warm up.
The speakers are blaring and Leah has taken full control of the playlist, ensuring hit after hit play and keeping everyone out dancing.
You’re about 4 or 5 drinks in at this stage and fully aware, and conscious of the fact that you need to keep your whits about yourself in front of your new teammates. First impressions last and you really don’t want to make a fool out of yourself.
Clearly some of the other girls don’t give a crap about how much they drink as you watch Katie and Beth dancing and pulling everyone up on their feet.
“Y/n, get your ass up and come dance” Katie yells to you over the music as she yanks you up from your sitting position on the couch.
You give in to her request and join in as Beth throws her arm over your shoulder and screams the lyrics to Mr.Brightside
The whole room has erupted and this point and you are dancing among your new teammates, shoulders bumping off each other, Katie’s up dancing on the table dancing, while Jordan’s doing a knee slide and singing into her beer bottle like a microphone.
It’s carnage and there is so much going on around you but you just can’t seem to take your eyes off Leah. She’s not doing anything out of the ordinary, she’s among the ‘mosh pit’ that you’ve all created in Beth and Viv’s living room, dancing like the rest of you but something within you is so deeply attracted to her that you just can’t look away.
You’ve decided now that she is the most attractive woman you’ve ever been in the presence of. You may be confident in your reasoning since you’ve had at least 5 drinks but you’re also pretty sure that your thoughts would also be true if you were completely sober.
She’s wearing checkered pants and a white crop top. Her arms are on show and god, she’s fit. She’s tan and comes across as so confident in herself. The way she carries herself is so so…….hot.
You’re pulled out of your daydream and brought back to reality when the song ends.
Some people disperse back to where they had been before the song had began playing, while others continue to dance and party to Stacey’s mom which has just started playing though the speakers.
In the midst of everything Leah seems to have disappeared from your view. A quick glance around the room and she’s no where to be seen. Probably for the better you think to yourself. Your mind was starting to focus on her a bit too much and you needed to focus on getting to know all of your new teammates, not just Leah.
You head to the kitchen for a breather and to grab a bottle of water. It’s not as peaceful as you thought it would be in there so after a quick exchange with Jen about how you each were enjoying the night, you head outside for a few minutes peace to yourself.
This was something you often did in social situations. It wasn’t that you necessarily suffered from anxiety, but you were very much a person who enjoyed their own company and genuinely liked spending time alone. For this reason you always seemed to try and get a few minutes peace among situations of chaos just to settle your mind and gather your thoughts.
Opening the back door and closing it behind you, you start to make your way over to the deck and outdoor furniture which is situated around the burning fire pit.
You are suddenly stopped in your tracks when you see that familiar blonde hair and sallow skin perched on the couch scrolling on her phone.
Leah looks up, sensing your presence, and grins.
“Stalking me now are we y/n?” She says with a giggle as she sits up in her seat, placing her phone down, and turning towards you.
You take the small few steps towards the couch, unsure of where to sit until Leah shoves over and makes that decision for you. You sit down next to her, turning slightly to your left so you can maintain conversation.
“Well the restraining order doesn’t kick in until the morning so I’m taking every opportunity I get” you say with a smile and a slight wink towards the blonde defender
Leah just laughs at your response. “I just needed a bit of peace and quiet after that performance from Katie and Beth” you said while putting your feet up on the table in front of you to make yourself comfier.
“I’m the same, only so much of their antics I can take in one night. They should have been cut off about 3 drinks ago but you can bet that Jordan’s in there pouring shots as we speak!” Leah’s says looking at you with a small smile.
“Well I hope you don’t mind me disrupting your quiet time, at least I’m not likely to spill a drink over you while we’re chatting” you say
“Haha of course not y/n, it’s actually nice to be able to hear the person I’m having a conversation with for the first time tonight” Leah says as she’s leans forward placing her elbows on her knees in an attempt to get closer to the heat of the fire pit.
You try to focus on her face and not let your eyes drop to the rest of her body which is on show for you at the moment. The way her top settles just below her rib cage gives a perfect view of her sculpted abs and the position that her arms are in now is making it tough for you to focus on anything else.
You’re brought back from your daze when Leah speaks again.
“Got any plans for our day off tomorrow?” She says
“No actually, everyone seems to be doing things with their partners or families since it’s a Sunday so I’ll probably just spend it alone in the house” you say blankly, realizing now that tomorrow will be your first day without any of you family around, and also without any plans to do something with the girls
“Y/n that makes me upset thinking of you just moving here and spending your days off alone and doing nothing” Leah says with a genuine pout on her face
“It’s okay Leah!” You say with a laugh
“I genuinely like being on my own sometimes, I’ve gotten used to it over the past few months” you respond with a hint of somber to your voice
“What do you mean by that?” Leah probes
“I just mean, since I ended my last relationship I’ve just got used to spending a lot of time by myself” you say, shocking yourself by opening up to Leah about something you had yet to speak to any of your teammates about
“Oh so you’re single?” Leah says a bit too enthusiastically. She must notice as you see a blush rise on her face
“Yeah for the past few months, I’ve not really mentioned it so I don’t know what people think to be honest it’s just not something I talk about”
“I just assumed when I saw your instagram that you were in a relationship, but enough on that, you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to” Leah says, looking up at you and giving you a reassuring closed mouth smile
“Stalking my instagram were you? Maybe I’m the one who needs to get a restraining order against you!” you say giving Leah’s shoulder a slight shove to lighten the mood between the two of you
“You got me there!” She holds her hands up and giggles. “Have to do a quick check on all the new signings, need to know what I’m getting myself in to” she says
The two of you have drifted towards the center of the couch with all your messing and you feel nothing but pure contentment being in Leah’s presence. You don’t know if it’s the fact that you’re far from sober or you’re just comfortable around Leah, but you feel like you can open up to her.
“I guess I should probably delete any pictures with her off my insta if I want to actually get laid over here……” you say out of nowhere
Leah bursts into a fit of laughter at your comment and you can’t contain the smile that spreads across your face. Her eyes connect with yours as you both come down from your fit of giggles.
“You don’t beat around the bush y/n, I like your style” Leah says, maintaining eye contact with you
“I’m nothing if not brutally honest Leah”
“Good to know, if I ever need a reality check I’ll be sure to come to you”
“Anyway, back to tomorrows plans…….there’s no way you are spending a summers day in London doing nothing!” Leah says standing up while continuing “me and you are going for lunch and I’m showing you around your new town, okay?” She says as she begins to move towards the house
You get up and follow suit like a little puppy clung to its owner.
“Sounds good Leah, but what about the restraining order?” You say with a cheeky grin, flashing Leah your best smile
“You’re funny y/n, we’re gonna get along” Leah says, looking over her shoulder and giving you an eye roll while holding the door open for you as you both head back inside.
Back into the chaos and away from the moment you both had just shared.
Authors Note: Just the 3 week wait for chapter 4, apologies! Work and life got in the way. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more time to write over Christmas and get another update out! Sending my love to Viv and Beth :( gonna miss seeing them on the pitch but no doubt the comeback will be better than the set back! As always thanks for reading :)

Chapter 4 tonight chicks🤌🏼
We all need a bit of cheering up today🫡
Hearts & Minds (Leah Williamson x Reader)
Chapter 2👇🏼
Chapter 3: The Start of Something New
Tumblr media
You moved into your new apartment on Thursday after training and said goodbye to your parents, as they headed for Heathrow to catch their flight back to Ireland.
Training Thursday morning was much the same as the day before and you were feeling even more confident in your abilities due to your performance and reassurance from your teammates, and coaches that you were adapting seamlessly into their training routines.
The apartment was in St.Albans, a scenic town which lots of the girls lived in. You had met Laura at training during the week and got on well so far. She was only about 6 months older than you and had also recently made the move to Arsenal and London in the past year. You had no doubt that she would be the perfect housemate and you took comfort from the fact that she was in a similar situation to yourself not too long ago.
You were surprised really at how easy it was to pack up all your belongings and move them into your new home. Considering you spent the last 10 years of your life basically in sports and club gear, you actually didn’t own many other clothes. Sure, you had enough to fill a wardrobe, but just the right amount of belongings to make the move and transition as seamless as possible
You had to admit that everything seemed to be going well with no major bumps yet. Although it was only Friday of your first week so there was plenty of time. No need to get ahead of yourself……
You finished grabbing the last of your kit and headed to the kitchen to fill your bottle from the water filter. Laura was running around looking for her shirt, quickly finding it in the pile of freshly folded clothes on the table. You grabbed a banana and both headed out towards the car.
She drove you both to the training ground since you were yet to go car shopping or even think about transferring your insurance. You arrived just before 9, and were greeted by Katie and Caitlin in the car park.
“Alright girls!” Katie shouted as she made her way towards you and Laura.
“Nice to see you’re as full of energy as ever!” You replied with a smirk and a shove to the left back’s shoulder as you all started your walk towards the changing room.
“Why wouldn’t I be full of energy y/n? It’s Friday, we’ve got the weekend off, the weather is fucking class, and I’m going to be spending it with my chicks partying!!” Katie replied giddy like a child at Christmas.
Laura and Caitlin laughed at her enthusiasm, with Caitlin also joining in on the excitement stating how tomorrow night was going to be “unbelievable”.
“I have to admit I’m really looking forward to getting to know everyone better and meeting the other girls” you said with a look of sincerity on your face.
“I hope you’re prepared to get to know us in ways you may never have expected y/n”, Caitlin added, “us Arsenal girls know how to party and don’t hold back”
“Don’t worry about y/n, she’s Irish so she knows how to drink and have the craic” Katie added “I saw her with my own eyes at the Ireland Camp summer party back in June! Y/n knows how to party, isn’t that right?” Katie looked at you with a mischievous grin.
“If I remember correctly Katie, it was you who was leading, and encouraging every single drink related incident that happened that night?” You smirked back not backing down on Katie’s attempts to paint you as the party girl.
Your comment earned a round of “ohhhs” from Caitlin, and Laura was cracking up beside you as you all reached the entrance.
“Alright, enough on that, let’s get in here and get this over with so we can go home and start plotting for tomorrow” Katie said as she opened the door to the training complex, and held it while you all made your way inside.
You learned that Friday’s during pre season training were always a bit more laid back and fun than the other days of the week.
Everything was still done with intensity but much of the session was dedicated to a mini 5-a side competition which was highly competitive.
You were teamed up with Manu Zinsberger, Kim Little, Katie, and Frida Manum. Safe to say the other teams didn’t stand a chance. And that was for the simple fact that you had Kim Little on your team. What an absolute baller she was. She was practically impossible to play against in a small sided game and she controlled everything. From the team’s positioning to the pace of the games. She was unbelievable and you were thankful that she was a teammate and not an opponent.
The winning team were awarded with a miniature trophy and a spot on the main feed of the social media page letting the fans know who this weeks champions were. Jonas your manager had also said he’d throw £20 into the kitty for the team night out so the winning team could have a drink on him.
You were really enjoying the commeradrey and togetherness of the team and staff. In other teams there may have been agro or a rift over a team night out, but you were staring to understand at Arsenal, the players were seen as humans first and players second.
If you treat your workers and staff as people, and let them enjoy themselves off the pitch, then you can demand that in training, and matches, they work their asses off for the team and be guaranteed that they will do just that.
Finishing up training on Friday afternoon you made plans with the girls to head over to yours and Laura’s apartment that evening to watch the the Arsenal Men’s team Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.
Lia Wailti, Caitlin, Katie and Jordan arrived around 7.30 for the 8pm kickoff. You and Laura had set up the living area in a way to make sure everyone had a clear view of your large tv screen and had went to the effort of buying snacks which you set out out in bowls on the coffee table.
“You definitely know how to host y/n ,I’ve not been offered more than a glass of water anytime I’ve been here before” Jordan teased as she threw herself down onto the bean bag beside your couch
“Hey! That’s not true at all!” Laura shouted from her standing position in front of the tv and she feigned fake hurt and gave a scowl towards Jordan.
You had told Katie to invite Viv and Beth over too but since they had just got back from their holiday yesterday and were hosting the team night tomorrow, they decided against it.
“Is Leah coming over?” Katie asked picking up a handful of popcorn from the bowl in front of her.
Caitlin piped up responding that Leah had text earlier to say she’d have to give tonight a miss due to the never ending media duties she was facing since captaining England to Euros glory last week.
You felt disappointed at this news and had to catch yourself on and remember that you were yet to even meet Leah. You had no idea why you cared so much about being in the presence of someone you hadn’t ever met.
You all spent the rest of the evening watching the lads win the game 2-0 and setting out the plan for tomorrow.
Beth and Viv were hosting the team night which would consist of a BBQ in the evening followed by a party. The decision had been made to avoid going to a pub or club given the attention that would be on you all, especially the England girls as a result of their recent success.
Everyone from the the team was invited including their partners and you couldn’t wait. You were a little nervous to meet the Euros girls since it would be the first time and in a setting outside of football. It was a lot easier meeting the other girls throughout the week in a training setting and getting to know them that way first.
You knew you were going to be constantly talking about yourself and getting to know everyone which was something which you didn’t particularly enjoy. It’s not that you were that much of an introvert, it was just that off the football pitch you didn’t like being the center of attention. You didn’t particularly want to answer questions on your relationship status, but you did want to get to know your teammates better and for them to like you so you knew you would just have to get over your nerves and enjoy the night.
Saturday evening rolled around and you decided it was time to get ready. You put on some light make up mainly just using concealer and mascara. You weren’t a fan of putting on make up and just simply didn’t have the patience for it. You were lucky enough to have relatively clear skin which required little coverage and made your life and the process a hell of a lot easier.
As an outfit choice you chose some cream slacks along with a black crop top. You added a small bit of jewelry, making sure your claddagh ring was securely on your left middle finger. The claddagh ring was a traditional piece of Irish jewelry worn by many Irish people. You had been given yours by your grandmother before she passed away last year and since your move to the the UK it held even greater sentiment. It reminded you of home and gave you purpose. A simple look to your left hand was all you needed as a reminder of who you were doing all this for.
You and Laura caught a cab to Viv and Beth’s for around 6pm and there was already a lot of your teammates there.
Beth greeted you both at the door, bringing you into a hug and saying how nice it was to finally meet you.
“Katie’s been telling me you’re quite the party animal y/n so I expect you to be on top form tonight” Beth joked as she led you both out to the garden at the back where the rest of the team were.
“I’m gonna kill that girl and her mouth I swear” you responded with fake anger to Beth and you made your way through the patio doors.
Laura had waited in the kitchen to grab a drink and the second you set foot outside you were met with a roar from your new Aussie friend Caitlin Foord.
“Here she is!” Caitlin shouted as she got up to give you a hug.
Everyone’s heads turned, and you were met with both familiar and unfamiliar faces.
Mumbles of “hey y/n” and smiles from your teammates greeted you as you made your way over to a free seat beside Katie and Ruesha.
Ruesha got up to give you a big bear hug and you accepted the offer gracefully from your international teammate.
“So good to see you Ruesh”
“I know y/n, that’s what they’ve all said this evening” she replied with her typical banter and you just rolled your eyes at her as you broke away from the hug.
You don’t get the chance to take your seat before you’re required to do some more meeting and greeting when out of the corner of your eye you seen Viv making her way outside.
“Y/n, it’s so nice to finally meet you” Viv exclaims as she makes her way over to where you are standing.
The music outside is blaring and everyone is chatting and laughing and here you are meeting the GOAT herself. Vivianne Miedema. How the hell was this your life now?
Quickly brushing away your thoughts before they turned to one’s of insecurities, you greet the Dutch woman with a smile and a side hug. You take her up on the offer to head inside and grab a drink. You’re thankful for the chance to catch a break from the mayhem that the past 10 minutes of meeting new faces had been.
You kept up some small talk with Viv as she grabbed you a bottle of Corona from the fridge and popped a piece of lime into it. Your conversation about how you found your first weeks training as an Arsenal player was cut short when the door bell chimes.
“That must be Leah” Viv says as she takes the short few steps towards the front door.
You are suddenly frozen to the spot. You have to refocus yourself before you drop the bottle in your hand. Sure you had been nervous to meet the other girls today but nothing to the level of nerves running through your body right now.
Why were you like this? Why was a simple meeting of you and a new teammate making you feel like this? Yes, she was the England captain but you didn’t know why your body was almost subconsciously entering itself into fight or flight mode.
You didn’t have much more time to ponder your thoughts before Viv returned back to the kitchen with Leah Williamson in tow.
“Hey Y/n, it’s so great to finally meet you” the English defender smiled as she made her way towards you.
You placed your bottle of Corona on the counter top in front of you with a shaky hand as the blonde woman brought in for a hug.
The energy in the hug when you both embraced was something to behold. It was evident to you that Leah put her heart and soul into everything she did, including small interactions like this.
The hug lasted way longer than any other you’ve had this evening and as you pulled away from Leah you were met with the most beautiful smile you had ever witnessed in person.
My god she was stunning.
In every sense of the word, she emanated beauty and you were star struck, lost for words.
When you did manage to come back to planet earth after your quick trip to planet Leah, you fell into small talk as Viv concocted Leah some sort of fruity drink.
“Congrats on the Euros win by the way, I’m sure you’re already sick of people saying it” you laughed as you looked directly at Leah.
“Thanks y/n, can’t say I’ve talked about much else the past week but that’s to be expected when you lead the country to silverware” she responded flashing you a smile and gracefully accepting the drink Viv was offering her.
“I feel like we need to put a ban on the word Euros for the night” Viv butted in. “It’s literally the only thing Beth has talked about, even in Greece”
“Come on now, don’t be jealous, you had your time in the sun, it’s ours now” Leah joked with Viv as you all made your way back out to the garden to join the rest of your teammates.
“Ireland are doing pretty good this year y/n, maybe we’ll see you all at the World Cup next year?” Says Leah as you take your seat next to Katie and Leah takes hers to your right.
“What’s that I heard about Ireland?” Katie pipes up as she turns to face you and Leah
“Was just suggesting that maybe we’ll be seeing you, Ruesh, and y/n on the big stage in Australia next year” Leah says while taking the first sip of her drink.
“Well if y/n keeps banging them in, and setting them up like she’s been all year then all I can say is throw that shrimp on the barby cuz we’ll be heading down under baby!” Katie enthusiastically replied throwing her arm around your neck and pulling you into her side
“Oi” Ruesha piped up, joining in on the conversation, “less of the man-handling others while I’m sat right here”
“What about girl-handling?” Katie sharply replied with a playful wink while releasing you from her grip as Ruesha just rolled her eyes.
You laughed, settling back into your seat and taking a sip of your drink.
“Jesus I don’t know how you put up playing with the two of them in the same team” Leah said while laughing, referring to Katie and Ruesha who were lost in some playful banter off to your left.
“With great hardship, but great reward in terms of comedic effect” you replied with a smile looking in Leah’s direction.
“You’re a stronger woman than myself y/n!” Leah replies with a laugh. “So tell me, how has your first week in London been? Settling in okay?”
“Yeah you know it’s been a bit of a whirlwind this week, and I’ve barely had a second to stop and think with training, the media duties, and then moving into the apartment. I feel like next week is when it might actually hit me that this is my life now!” You respond
“I get what you mean. I’ve been at Arsenal since I was a child and luckily have family close by so maybe I can’t relate totally, but the support system that you have within this team will help you through it all. Don’t forget that we are all here for you and want you to succeed” Leah replied with the most sincerity you’ve ever seen from a person
“I really appreciate that Leah. Especially coming from you!” You say with smile.
“Please y/n, I hope you’ve not formed many preconceptions of me just because I’m England captain! I might say some knowledgeable things at the right moments but I’m just the same as the rest of the girls. I’m a flawed 25 year old who just so happens to have been handed a massive responsibility” Leah says
“Well if it’s any help, I think it’s pretty clear to everyone that you’re handling the responsibility and everything that comes with it better than anyone else would!” You say to Leah shooting her a gentle smile
She smiles back quietly taking the last sip of her drink before excusing herself, stating that she had to get a hold of Beth so she could put on a better playlist than the one currently playing.
You turn back around to Katie who’s in conversation with Jordan and Jen.
“How nice of you to come back to us y/n, I thought we might not get to speak to you again for the rest of the night. Leah finally stop talking your ear off?”
“Shut it McCabe, I can’t spend my whole night pretending to laugh at your bad jokes” you banter back.
“Y/n, put it here” Ruesha says, dying with laughter at your comment as she reaches across Katie to give you a high five.
You all laugh as Katie rolls her eyes and gets up to get another drink.
You follow behind her, needing another beer. You throw your empty in the designated crate by the door and as you enter you are stopped in your tracks as you collide straight into Leah who is heading out the door at the same time.
“Oh shit y/n,sorry” Leah yells as she grabs onto your sides to prevent you from falling. The touch of her hands on you alone is enough to make you fall over, not mind the force you had just been met with.
You stumble slightly but stop yourself just in time. “My bad Leah, I should probably look where I’m going next time instead of daydreaming!” you respond awkwardly trying not to let your knees buckle from under you with the feeling of Leah’s hands on your skin.
Leah finally moved her hands off your waist after what seems like a century and gives you a pat on your shoulder as she walks by you with a laugh.
You have no idea why you made that whole situation that awkward and why the feeling of Leah’s hands on your waist had such an effect on you.
You’re brought back to reality when Steph hands you a beer. You reach behind Katie for the bottle opener and thats when you notice that she’s just watched your whole interaction with Leah and is staring at you with a smirk.
“What?” You say, confused.
“What was all that about with you and Leah?” McCabe throws back, not letting the smirk leave her face.
“uhm I think it’s pretty obvious we banged into each other?” You responded
“hmmm yeah…..sure, that’s all it was” Katie says with a sly grin, moving towards the door and leaving you froze in your position in the kitchen.
What does she mean by that?
Is it that obvious that your mind and body start racing when you’re in Leah’s presence?
You’ve literally not even met Leah two hours ago and now, here you were all flustered from your interactions with her and even your teammates were beginning to notice.
This was going to be a long night.
This was going to be a long season.
To Be Continued………

Chapter 3 should be up tomorrow night🫡
Hearts & Minds (Leah Williamson x Reader)
Chapter 1: 👇🏼
Chapter 2: Welcome to the Arsenal
Tumblr media
You woke early on the 4th August with the sun breaking its way through the curtains of the apartment you had been staying in with your parents on your trip over to sign the contract. This was your temporary living situation for the next few days until you could fully move into your new home.
Living alone wasn’t something that Arsenal had wanted for you so when they suggested you move in with January signing Laura Weinrother you took them up on their offer.
You had been living away from home for the past four years during college but would regularly travel the 1 hour long train journey home to visit your friends and family on any opportunity you got. This, living in a new city, a new country, would be a totally new experience.
Sure, there were plenty of Irish girls playing for clubs throughout London, and you even had your compatriot and national team captain Katie McCabe playing on the same team as you, but there’s no doubt it would take some getting used to. You were ready for the challenging times ahead and wanted to face them head on. This was the opportunity you had been waiting for. The next step in your career which you had been meticulously planning since you were 12 years old and realized that maybe, just maybe, a career as a professional footballer could be a viable one.
You rolled over to the opposite side of the comfy double bed you were lying in and grabbed your phone from the bed side locker. Checking the time it read ‘6.45 am’.
You had woken up 15 mins before your alarm was set to go off.
Today was the day.
Your first day as an official Arsenal player. Your first day as a full time professional footballer.
Your first day training with your new team. Your first day meeting your new team mates and staff.
You were due at London Coloney at 9am and having chosen to stay relatively close to the training ground, you had at least an hour and a half before you would even have to think about leaving.
Placing your phone back down on you bedside locker you quickly swing your feet out of bed and place them on the floor. You sat pensively for a moment, lost in your thoughts about the day ahead, trying to stop the nerves from creeping into your body. You’re brought back down to earth when you hear the sound of your phone notifying you of a new text message.
Quickly reaching for it, you open up your Lock Screen to find a message from none other than your international, turned club teammate, Katie McCabe.
Katie: Hey Y/N, how are things? Hope you’re as buzzing for today as I am🤩I can give you a lift to training if you’d like? I know how daunting it can be on your first day!! Lemme know🫡
Smiling to yourself as you read through Katie’s message, you felt a lot of tension leave your body. You knew Katie quite well from being around her in international camps throughout the last year. You weren’t that close of friends, but the last few weeks since your move to Arsenal looked to be coming to fruition, she had been in constant touch with you, telling you how much everyone at the club was looking forward to meeting and playing with you.
It had been a constant joke between yourselves this year that at every camp Katie would ask you when you were finally joining her at the Arsenal. You constantly brushed off her probing, thinking that it was just a pipe dream at the time. Now that it was actually reality, it was hard to find someone more exited about your move over the pond than Katie McCabe.
Quicky, you typed out a reply, gracefully accepting the Dublin woman’s offer of a lift to the training ground.
Y/N: Hey Katie! That would be brill if it’s not too much hassle for you? My post code is AL1 XXX. Lmk what time to be ready! Cheers mate🤩
Placing your phone back down on the bed beside you, you forced yourself up to your feet from your sitting position and headed for a quick shower. The weather outside was already approaching 20 degrees and it was not even 8am.
You forced a bowl of porridge into yourself along with a banana. You hated eating breakfast, usually opting to wait until midday to break your feast, but with your new schedule of training in the morning you knew it was something you would have to get used to.
Checking the time on your phone again you saw it was 8.10am. Katie would be here in five minutes. Your Arsenal career was about to begin. Checking your gear bag for the last time to make sure you had everything, you took one last look at yourself in mirror.
You were kitted out in the training wear that the club had provided you with yesterday after you signed your contract. The number 14 donned your shorts and top. An iconic Arsenal number. The number of your once idol Thierry Henry and more recently, the former number of current England WNT captain, and your new Arsenal teammate, Leah Williamson.
Big names to live up to, especially given the fact that Leah had just led the England Lionesses to Euro 2022 glory at the weekend. She was a player you held so much admiration for. A born leader who you were so looking forward to meeting and playing with when she and the other lionesses returned next week following there time away after the Euros.
Katie arrived right on time and you headed out to her car. Opening the passenger door of her black Audi A3, you were met with that million dollar smile that she was renowned for and a shout of “well y/n, what’s the craic?”
“Always a pleasure to see you McCabe”
you bantered back as Katie began the journey to the training ground and you both settled into casual conversation, catching up on things since your last international camp at the end of June.
As you got closer to the complex, the conversation turned to Arsenal and you felt your nerves returning. Katie was a calming voice reassuring you that every one in the team were friendly and approachable, along with all members of staff being fair and easy to get along with.
That was definitely reassuring to hear, but the real reason for your nerves wasn’t anything to do with meeting your new teammates and staff, it was the intensity and quality of the training that had you shaking with fear.
You had always been an excellent trainer. And that’s not tooting your own horn or anything. It was a well known fact within the WNL and the Irish camp. Effort and quality wise you truly epitomized the saying ‘train as you play’.
You weren’t worried about the effort you could give today, knowing there was no doubt you would continue your trait of training with maximum effort. What you were nervous about however, was the quality of the training. Yes, you had been involved with high level Irish camps but at club level you were playing with players who had part-time, and some even full-time jobs outside of football.
Arsenal was now your job. You would now being training 4-5 days a week, playing matches once or twice a week and also following strict strength and conditioning plans in the gym. Your nutrition would be closely monitored. This was it now. There was no room for complacency or not being good enough. You simply had to rise to these professional standards to stand a chance of succeeding. That is what you were nervous about.
The imposter syndrome that you were feeling for the very first time in your career was making you nervous. Why me? What do they see in me? What if I can’t rise to their level?
You pushed those intrusive thoughts to the back of your mind as Katie took the left turn into the training ground. She maneuvered into her parking spot and turned off the engine. Katie looked across to you with a big smile asking if you were ready. You quickly responded “as ready as I’ll ever be” through gritted teeth as you opened your door to get out. For the second time in less than 24 hours you smiled to yourself and whispered under your breath: “here goes nothing….”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Your first session as an Arsenal player went as well as it could.
You met the girls and the coaches for the first time and joined in with their dynamic warm up and ball work drills. You kept up with the pace quite well and quickly learned the patterns and plays involved in each of the drills.
When there was a break for some water and to refuel, you got to chat a bit more to your new teammates. You were sat between Katie, Jordan Nobbs, and Steph Catley beside the water coolers and ice buckets listening to the girls conversation which involved chat about the recent Euros final which they had all attended in support of their teammates.
“Were you at the final, Y/N??” Jordan asked.
You looked in the blonde woman’s direction before responding: “yeah I was actually, can’t say who I was shouting for though or I might get fired on my first day!”
Your comment earned you a round of “oh’s” followed by laughter from the girls listening, and a nudge from Katie who agreed, laughing and explaining how you both would have been “banned from ever returning to Ireland if we openly supported England in the final”.
“But credit where it’s due I’m delighted for the girls” you piped up, not wanting your new teammates to have a bad first impression of you.
Katie agreed with you and you voiced how much you were looking forward to playing with European champions upon their return.
Training resumed and involved more intense ball work and some agility before you ended it out with a 9v9 game. You held yourself well throughout the game getting a couple of assists and even scoring one goal for good measure.
By the time training had finished up for the day you were exhausted and wanted nothing more than to go home and sleep for 15 hours. However, an offer from Steph to join herself, Katie, Jordan, and Jen Beattie for a coffee in their favorite spot down the road from the training complex was one you couldn’t turn down. You were determined to make this move work out and the first step of that was to get to know your teammates better off the pitch.
The five of you sat outside the coffee shop in the blistering heat sipping your iced coffees and chatting. You were the center of the conversation for most the afternoon with all the girls eager to get to know more about you. You felt they genuinely cared and that made you happy.
“So how’d you find your first day y/n?” Jen asked.
“A massive jump in quality and intensity for sure but enjoyable!!” you responded with a laugh.
“You slotted right in, y/n, if I didn’t know I would have thought you were training with us all season!” Jordan gives you a smile.
You smile back doubtfully but accept the compliment none the less.
The conversation moves on to the girls who were not present and still enjoying the last of their holidays before they would rejoin the squad on Monday.
You learned that Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema were currently sunning it up in Greece, having just gone public as a new couple. Your teammates seem to have known about the relationship for quite sometime, laughing over how oblivious the general public had been to their blossoming relationship for the past couple of months.
Steph said that Lotte Wubben-Moy and Rafa Souza would both join up with the team on Monday along with the England Captain herself, Leah Williamson.
Your ears perked up when the girls began to speak about Leah. She was a special player, and from the way they spoke of her, it was clear she was a special person too. You were even more eager to meet her after listening to your teammates praise her character.
The girls informed you that there was a team night out this Saturday to celebrate the girl’s achievements at the tournament this summer, and welcome all the new girls to the club. This would be your first opportunity to properly get to know your new teammates and meet Leah and the other girls for the first time.
You already couldn’t wait for Saturday to arrive.
To Be Continued………
*Authors Note: Next Chapter will feature the team night out and the first meeting of Y/N and Leah. I know there’s not been much Leah content yet but I wanted to give good background to the character of Y/N. Stick with me and trust the process, this is gonna be a good one :) *

Posting Chapter 2 tonight!
Hearts & Minds (Leah Williamson X Reader)
Tumblr media
*A New Multi Chapter story involving Leah Williamson x Reader. Constant involvement of both the Arsenal Women’s teams and Ireland Women’s National team. This first chapter gives a background to Readers career so far and sets the scene for the chapter to come. Any feedback is appreciated. Enjoy!*
Chapter 1: Where to Begin
It wasn’t easy moving country less than 2 months after ending the longest term relationship you’d been in.
It wasn’t easy leaving behind your friends and family who had gotten you through the toughest times of your life.
It wasn’t easy leaving your childhood club, teammates, and managers who had raised you and shaped you into the player you had become today.
It wasn’t easy, but when a Women’s footballing giant in the shape of Arsenal WFC comes calling, the answer had to be yes, there was no second guessing or hesitation, there couldn’t be.
———————————————————————
You had turned down numerous offers over the past 2 years from the WSL opting to stay in Ireland and complete your university degree while competing in the Irish Women’s National League.
The standard of the league was undoubtedly below the level of it’s English equivalent but you were determined to finish out your education and have something to fall back on if you’re dream of becoming a professional footballer didn’t work out.
People had tried to change your mind throughout the years, not wanting you to miss your opportunity or waste valuable years of your career playing at a lower standard. You knew your decision had even lessened your chances of being picked in the Irish Women National team, with manager Vera Pauw preferring to call up players who were involved in professional set ups.
Your performances throughout this last season in the Irish league however had left Vera with no option but to call you up to the squad and quickly you had cemented your position in the starting 11. You were everything Ireland had been missing. A creative number 10 with and eye for goal. You partnered with Denise O’Sullivan in midfield, forming a formidable partnership built on hard work and tenacity and topped off with your ability to pick out and play a through ball that no other player on the pitch could see.
Game after game with the girls in green you had performed out of your skin, racking up 5 assists and 3 goals on Irelands road to a World Cup Qualifier Play off. Your stance in the game was rising and the attention you were getting was increasing.
It was July when contact was first made with your agent by representatives of the Arsenal women’s team. You had known there had been scouts from the WSL team at your last 2 international games in Dublin, and you had even heard some rumors about them attending recent WNL games that you had been involved in throughout the country.
Still though, when official contact was made about the clubs interest in signing you, it’s safe to say you were a little bit lost for words.
The first half of 2022 had been perhaps your best on the pitch in your 22 years of life so far, but it was undoubtedly the most difficult year for you off the pitch in your personal life.
You learned the hard way that being in final year of Uni while playing club, college, and international football and also trying to navigate your first real relationship was never going to work. You were delusional to think you could keep all sides happy. Something had to give and unsurprisingly it was your relationship.
You had known since quite a young age that you were much more fascinated by and attracted to women than you were to men. You never tried to hide it and luckily for you you never felt you had to. You came from a family who loved you for who you were and never treated you any different.
You ended up falling for somebody who had nothing to do with your football life and while at first you thought it was a good thing, a distraction of some sorts from your chaotic football schedule, you realized that you couldn’t devote the time and effort needed for a relationship to blossom, especially when you never had a day off to spend time with your loved ones.
Things petered out and by the time you made your way to London to visit Arsenals training ground with your agent and hold contract talks, you were as free as a bird.
A single 22 year old woman with the world at her feet. 8 international caps to your name and coming off the back of a title winning season back in Ireland where you had been named the leagues young player of the year, Arsenal offered you a two-year deal with a pay package you just couldn’t turn down.
The deal was finalized on the 3rd of August 2022 and this was the beginning of what you hoped would be a long and fulfilling career. Staring out at the cameras, holding pen to paper with both your parents beaming proudly behind you, you whispered “here goes nothing…” under your breath as the tip of the pen made contact with the dotted line.
