Thinking about these two moments from the latest episode. Thinking about two people faced with an impossible choice- to hurt someone they didn’t want to in order to save themselves. Sherman says he doesn’t know Lark but he understands her better than he think he does. Thinking about the parallels between Lark and her mother and Sherman and Tzila- how Sherman would do the same thing that Lark did to avenge her mother to protect Tzila. Thinking about how both of them were backed into a corner and chose the selfish option because what guarantee do they have that they’ll be safe otherwise? In a world where they both know they can’t hide from the Trust for long, why shouldn’t they save themselves?

Thinking about how much they care for each other. How Lark suspects Sherman ratted her out and still works to find a ship to get him to safety. How Sherman now knows of Lark’s secret, how she killed Maximilian and Fuse and he still begs her to stay safe and not die. The silent apologies. The silent acceptance.

Lark stays behind because she’s committed to helping the Breach. Sherman leaves alone because Lark travelling with them endangers him. In this moment they’ve saved each other, but cannot save themselves by leaving together. It’s still a choice, it’s always been a choice, and they can’t choose both.

hearing officials and public figures criticize biden openly on talk shows and seeing newspaper headlines sharply decry israel killing aid workers is making me feel kind of crazy. like it could've been like this the whole time. before 40,000 palestinians were killed and the infrastructure of gaza destroyed. it could've been like this when people gathered their children in plastic bags at al-ahli hospital, when a poet and his family were assassinated for a joke, when journalists buried their families on air, when children were targeted by drones on camera, when a little boy holding his grandmother's hand in one hand and a white flag in another watched her get shot and die in front of him, when a cameraman was left to bleed out with a live counter for hours while his rescuers were shot, when patients were bulldozed in their tents in the courtyard of a hospital, when four babies were left die and decompose alone in their hospital beds, when six year old hind rajab was crying for help trapped in a car with the corpses of her family on the phone with the red crescent for hours until she and the rescuers sent to get her were killed too.
