525 at The Berry Burk (Arts District) Richmond, Va- Had a fantastic dinner last Friday.  Tom Haas, part owner and FOH Manager hosted one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. All the foodies at the table shared the following:
Teriyaki Pot Stickers
Scallops with Pineapple Dill Remoulade
Pork Ribeye
Blackened Lake Trout
Short Ribs with Chris's Mac & Cheese
Bourbon Pecan Bread Pudding
I insisted that I did not have room for dessert and that I would "try" the bread pudding.  That was a lie, I devoured it!  Besides the delicious food and enjoyable downtown open atmosphere, the service was impeccable.  Our server was very knowledgeable and confident and delivered everything exactly the way we wanted.  **didn't use a flash so some of the pictures came out a little dark**

Weezie's Kitchen (Carytown) Richmond, Va-
Fried Oysters
Fish Tacos
Homemade Jalepeno macaroni and cheese.
The crispy cornmeal oysters are such a great value. Though the oysters aren’t printed on the menu, they usually run as a special/sometimes made upon request. Most RVA restaurants charge anywhere from $12-$18 for half the amount of oysters - - Weezie’s charges around $12 on most occasions. My friend and I also split the fish tacos with Jalepeno Mac and Cheese. The fish tacos are refreshing and are drizzled with a wasabi mayo. The Mac and cheese is out of this world and I never go to Weezies without ordering atleast one side.  I also reccomend Weezies as a chill late-night hang out spot.  Food is served until 1 am, and it's usually not too crowded. http://weezieskitchen.com/

Basili’s (Carytown) Richmond, Va-
Lamb Gyro- with diced tomatoes and onions with tsaziki sauce wrapped in warm pita bread.
Reasonable prices, good food and quick service. If you are browsing the shops in Carytown and need to stop for a quick bite, Basili’s is a good choice. I’m usually in and out in less than thirty minutes and the food is always fresh and delicious.  https://sites.google.com/site/basilisgreekrestaurant/

Peter Chang (Short Pump- next to Walmart) Glen Allen, Va- Peter Changs specializes in Szechuan cuisine. The food can be very spicy due to the liberal use of garlic and chili peppers, hence the reason Peter Chang’s rates each menu item with pepper symbols … 3 peppers means really HOT! The Crispy Pork Belly (bottom left) had a unique presentation a spicy kick of flavor. My friend had the “Shan City Chicken” (bottom middle). I love spicy food, so, of course I ordered what the server said to be “the spiciest thing on the menu” called the "Hot & Numbing Combination in Hot Pot" (3 peppers on the spicy scale*). It came with Jumbo Shrimp, Sliced Fish, Chicken and Beef with lots of mixed vegetables. The broth was spicy and yes, the food made my mouth a little numb.
Overall, Peter Chang is unlike most “tradional” Chinese restaurants in America. It really gives you a taste of true Szechuan flavor and Peter Chang, the chef/owner and master chef of Szechuan Cuisine , is usually in the kitchen making all of these great items to order. http://www.peterchangrva.com

The Crab Lady (East End, Nine Mile Road & Rt. 64) Richmond, Va- just got a craving for Blue Crabs! I found out about The Crab Lady several months ago while searching online for a crab vendor. The Crab Lady rocks; it’s a small take-out style place that sells crabs and other seafood and homemade goods year round. Even through the cold weather months, The Crab Lady manages to finds a way to get crabs. She updates her Facebook page and voice mail (804-726-CRAB) daily in the event she can’t get hold of crabs and also updates any specials on food/prices per dozen, etc. On the particular day (when this picture was taken) I had the choice of a dozen of medium or large crabs. While the medium were cheaper, I opted for the large which were priced around $35.00. The experience was worth it and I can’t wait to go back. Check The Crab Lady out on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Crab-Lady/109508429087868 and be sure to call (804-726-CRAB) for updates and pricing.

FU JIAN; Chinese Take-Out (The Fan)- Richmond, VA- Being on a diet and ordering Chinese probably isn’t the best idea, but I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan- Steamed (sauce on the side) and added broccoli. The dish included chicken, snow peas, carrots, onion, broccoli and mushrooms. Nice to know I can have something healthy like this delivered to my house for so cheap. Thanks FU JIAN. (Oh, and the picture above only shows half of what I ordered!) http://fujianrva.com/

Athens Greek Grill Cafe (formerly known as Greek Grill Cafe) Westwood Ave, Richmond, VA- I came here once before they went under new management in September 2013. Although nowadays it looks like they’ve increased they’re prices, the Greek food served here is outstanding. I ordered the chicken entree with green beans and tsaziki sauce—which by the way, they charge $3.00 for a small side dish of tsaziki sauce (it says on the menu)—I made the mistake of ordering extra sauce. The green beans are delicious!! The entrees are also served with a side salad which can be upgraded to a Greek salad for $2.00 (it’s worth it). When you opt for the Greek salad they add feta cheese, olives, pepperoncinis (sp.), and a stuffed grape leaf. This place is a gem; it’s not off of the busiest of thoroughfares so you have to go out and find it! http://www.greekgrillcafe.com/

Water Coastal Kitchen (formerly known as “The Water Grill”) Carytown, Richmond, Va-
Blue Point Oysters (raw)
Ahi Tuna Salad
Curried Mussels
Delicious seafood, open for both lunch and dinner. Their Curried Mussels appetizer never fails. We ordered the Blue Point oysters to share. The Blue Point’s have a good salty flavor. And lastly, the Ahi Tuna salad, seared rare. The dressing on this salad is goes great with the tuna and has a good ratio of wasabi and ginger. http://www.watercoastalkitchen.com/

Mellow Mushroom- Carytown, Richmond, VA- Homemade Pizza by the slice served extra late for $2.50 + 50¢ per topping. I made the mistake of ordering anchovies. I like anchovies, but the cook put way too many on my slice which turned my pizza into a salt lick. After removing some of the anchovies, I was able to appreciate the buttery hand tossed crust topped with bacon, mushrooms… And “less” anchovies. Definitely a good bang for your buck if you are in Carytown and want to grab a late night snack with plenty of beer choices in a good atmosphere. http://mellowmushroom.com/store/richmond-carytown
