***** personal post warning *****

I’m generally pretty private on here, but the last few days really got me to thinking and I just wanted to get a few things off my chest.

A few years ago I was diagnosed with a condition that slowly started to worsen, leading up to a rupture in my intestinal wall that landed me in intensive care with septic shock and organ failure last December. I’m blessed to be one of the lucky ones that got to go home with my life, but the road to recovery has been long, unpredictable, and a little scary, to say the least.

Since December I’ve been in and out of the hospital for various check-ups, complications, and everything in-between, but my most recent stay also happened to overlap with a milestone birthday for me. That day one of the nurses (bless her heart) asked me if I wanted her to read any messages from my phone in case there were any special texts or anything, and she happened to see a bunch of Discord notifications (yay, Sorato server!). At first she didn’t understand those weren’t personal messages to me (“you’re so popular!” 😂), so I ended up explaining to her a little about Discord and the Sorato server and then Tumblr and the Digimon and Sorato fandoms and at the end of it all, it just kinda hit differently that you guys really hold a special place in my heart. Like I knew you all meant a lot to me, but there was a small voice that kept telling me I would hate it if I left this earth without telling you guys how much your friendship, your posts, your creativity, and your general amazingness has meant to me. You’ve gotten me through dark times, kept me in high spirits when I needed it most, and ultimately made me feel like I’d always have a special place in this world where I belonged, and to everyone who I’ve interacted with here on Tumblr, whether only once or a thousand times, just know that I love you dearly and I am thankful that our paths have crossed.

Digimon Adventure 02 Appreciation Challenge - Day 4 “A 02 musical piece that makes you feel every time it plays” It was a hard choice between this and “Bokura no Digital World,” buuut in the end I decided to go with Yamato’s “Hitoribocchi no Seesaw”. This song floored me when I first heard it cuz it was sooo beautiful/heartfelt/unexpected (I was used to his faster, upbeat charasongs ^^). I’ve been belting this out in my car since I was in high school and continue to do so today.

okay so it’s been 20 years and my mom still has never figured out the difference between pokemon and digimon.

fair enough — I watched both shows when I was a kid. no big deal, right?

Did I awake from the dead to try and finish all the prompt challenges I’ve been ignoring in my inbox during my extreme writer’s block? Why yes, yes I did.

#8: “There’s only one bed.”

Type: One-shot

Characters: Ishida Yamato, Yagami Hikari

Rating: K

Word Count: ~1,000

Imagine this is somewhere in the the Tri universe during Saikai.

His mind was utter chaos. Every time he grasped at a coherent thought, it sifted away like sand between his fingertips, lost to a sea of emotions. With his frustration threatening to reach new levels, he ignored the war raging inside of him and rang the doorbell. It was now or never.

“Yamato?”

The melodic voice jarred him.

“Hikari?”

The ever-so-slight tilt of her head reminded him he shouldn’t have been so surprised.

“Sorry, I just…” he trailed.

“You were looking for my brother.”

Had Yamato been less preoccupied, he might’ve raised an eyebrow that her words were more of a statement than a question.

“Yeah.”

Hikari stepped out of the way and motioned for Yamato to come inside. He respectfully stepped out of his shoes and followed her past the entryway, glancing around the apartment for telltale bushy hair. Once he was assured that Taichi was nowhere in plain sight, Yamato edged towards one of the bedroom doors before turning back to Hikari.

“I’m guessing he’s in your guys’ room?”

He didn’t wait for a response before pounding on the door in front of him.

“I’m coming in, so make yourself appropri–“

Startled silent, Yamato did a double-take once inside the room. While taking in his new surroundings, he felt Hikari’s lithe body slink past him.

“There’s only one bed,” he commented once she was inside and facing him.

Yamato watched as Hikari sat on the aforementioned bed, patting the seat of a desk chair next to her.

“It’s been a while since you’ve been here, huh? Although technically I think a bunk bed would still count as one bed,” she added with an almost imperceptible giggle.

Flushed, Yamato accepted her offer and sat down next to her.

“I guess at some point siblings should have their own rooms. When did this happen?”

“A little earlier this year, actually, so you haven’t missed much. I’m still not really used it.”

She waved around at her belongings which were all suspiciously sequestered into one corner of the room. Yamato’s eyes settled back onto Hikari and noted a wan smile that set off alarm bells in his head.

“Is Taichi even here?”

She shifted so that she was sitting up a little straighter.

“His indecision isn’t because he doubts our abilities, you know that, right?”

The whirlwind inside of him ended its brief respite and began roaring again.

“It doesn’t matter what his gripe is, we don’t have the luxury of time to wait around. He needs to get it through his thick skull that we’re the only ones that can do anything and we need to do it now!”

Yamato didn’t mean to raise his voice at her, but Hikari took it in stride. If he wasn’t already aware of her particular skill of staying composed when most would crumble, he would have been impressed at the easy tone she continued with.

“The likelihood of having people’s blood on our hands heavily weighs on Taichi.”

“If we don’t do anything, multiple lives will be at stake, Hikari. You must see that!” Yamato snarled, shooting up in defiance. He didn’t understand why this fact was so hard to impress on apparently both Yagami siblings.

“You misunderstand,” she replied, shaking her head slowly. “Before, we weren’t in the human world and we were just oblivious, ignorant children; there is a difference between blindly doing what’s right and finally realizing that you will have a direct hand in destruction. This is the first time Taichi has needed to thoughtfully weigh the consequences of sacrificing people for the greater good.”

Yamato recoiled slightly and found his seat again.

“Sacrifice seems like a harsh word,” he trailed with only a hint of spite.

“But perhaps an accurate one, nonetheless.”

His mental storm dwindled down to a slow churn.

Yamato’s mindset hadn’t changed, but it suddenly became a lot harder to verbally convey why they still needed to take action as quickly as possible. It wasn’t that he wanted people to be caught in the crossfire, but their inaction could have just as direct of an impact on the world. The more they waited around, the more dire the consequences could become.

“I’m not taking a position here,” she interjected through his thoughts. “Please don’t think that I’m trying to say that either of you are right or wrong. I just want help you to better understand where he’s coming from. He’s as stubborn as a mule, but it might soften him up a little to feel like you’re hearing his concerns. We’re all allowed our moments of weakness and deserve the support of our friends.”

She stared at him pointedly, and Yamato couldn’t help but wonder if that was a subtle jab at his crest. He dropped his head, not quite knowing how to respond.

“Yamato.”

She placed a delicate hand over the fist he was making in his lap and he prickled at her warmth. Choosing to ignore the involuntary response, he looked up and egged her on with pleading eyes.

“You’re the only one that can reach him, I know you’ll do your best. I have faith in you.”

Her hand lingered on his for only a second more before she stood up and made her way to the bedroom door.

“He’s over at the park if you still want to catch him,” she disclosed to him. The air of finality in her voice told him it was time to take his leave.

“That’s a good idea, thank you.”

As they made their way to the front door, Yamato spun around catching Hikari off guard.

“Taichi’s lucky to have you as a sister.”

Rose patches dusted her cheeks and Yamato gave her a genuine smile.

“It’s a wonder you guys are related,” he added cheekily before ducking down to retrieve his shoes.

She chuckled and waited for him to cross the doorway threshold before bidding him goodbye.

“Good luck, Yamato. Tell Taichi I said hello.”

Yamato offered a small wave before taking his leave.

“I’ll do my best.”

SooOooOoo I FINALLY was able to recover my things from my old laptop, yippee!!!!! To celebrate, here’s a random Sorato drabble I never finished from aaaaages ago. Don’t judge me too hard, there are some MAJOR cobwebs I need to shake off and I honestly don’t even remember why I started writing this piece in the first place... but it’s kinda cute and it makes me go *squeeee* and now I’m making you all suffer, too.

Red

He used to associate Winter with the color blue: icicles hanging from rooftops, night skies after the first snowfall, ice skating on frozen lakes with his father. It was a hue that often reflected his mood and it was one that especially stood out to him during the holiday season...

...that is, until this year.

Now all of a sudden he couldn’t stop thinking about fireplaces and holly and candy canes and Sora.

“Hey, man, snap out of it dude.”

Taichi waved his hand wildly in front of Yamato, shaking the blonde out of his thoughts.

“So you wanna go?”

Yamato struggled to play back the last couple of seconds in his head. What is he talking about?

“Jeez, take a break from your brooding every once in a while and pay attention,” the brunette chided. “Will you come to my family’s Christmas party tomorrow or what?”

Taichi only got a blank stare in response.

“Sora’ll be there so it won’t just be you and my crazy relatives,” he pressed on. “Koushiro usually comes, but apparently he can’t this year which is a bummer because he always drinks too much eggnog and me and my cousins take bets on when he’ll disappear into the bathroom for the night. It’s a real hoot, trust me.”

Only one thing registered to Yamato.

“Sora?”

Taichi rolled his eyes.

“Yes, Sora. She’s got red hair, plays sports, hangs out with us sometimes, I think you’ve met her before.”

Yamato hoped his face didn’t betray his embarrassment. He let his lips settle into a sneer and waited for his friend to continue.

“She’s been nagging me saying I waited too long to ask you about it, so I’m sorry if you’re busy...” Taichi confessed, scratching the back of his neck. “I kinda forgot you haven’t been around that long to know it was coming up, it’s sort of a family tradition.”

Sora wanted him to come to the Yagami’s Christmas party. Sora wanted him to come to the Yagami’s Christmas party. He had to play it cool.

“I guess– I mean, thank you for– I, err... Is there anything I should bring?”

“Just make sure to wear something red, it’s themed this year,” Taichi replied while glancing at his watch. “Anyway, I gotta head out to practice. Tell Sora I’m not a complete failure I caught you up to speed, will you?” He turned with a wave and headed in the opposite direction. “See you tomorrow!”

Despite the chilly air around him, Yamato felt a warmth spread throughout his body.

He supposed it was time to find something to wear in his new favorite color.

OH OH OH can you just imagine these little itty bitty cut scenes sprinkled in before the kids find the holy digimon where we see god Hikari in the human world just bein a cutie and walking around but then *le gasp* she gets this f e e l i n g and pauses to turn around and stare at a girl with violet hair and bby glasses pointing at something in a shop window to her parents or this lil boy that she swears looks just like her big bro playing in the park etc.

although right as I typed all that I suddenly remembered that Tokyo is on the brink of destruction so I guess none of that would actually make any sense... but a girl can still dream right? lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hi do you think Davis, Ken, Cody and Yolei will appear in the 2020 Digimon reboot?

anyway now that you’ve made my night, if I were to turn my guess into statistics, I would predict 86% no and 14% yes. but also I know nothing AND THE INFINITE POTENTIAL OF THIS SERIES FUELS ME GREATLY, ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN

low key though, my dream scenario is that the 02 kids appear briefly as cameos (think Miyako in Our War Game!) and not as plot-driven characters WAIT LET ME EXPLAIN.

I know they were in Kizuna, but that movie is literally in the dictionary next to nostalgia

like it was made for the feels and that’s not the case for the reboot

so although I love the 02 babies and the reboot seems fast-paced enough to potentially fit them into the season chronologically, I’d prefer the writers follow the loose 01 structure and keep the main cast to 8 so they get the optimal attention they deserve

I mean we’re already 13 episodes in and I feel like only Yamato and Mimi have given hints of being multi-dimensional

and if there’s one thing I love about Digimon, it’s the attention to individual character arcs so I have faith it’s coming

remember we’ve barely been introduced to Takeru and Hikari and we already know they’re very important™ from visual cues alone look at me pretending I’m not a full-grown adult who watched Digimon when it first aired in 1999 (on my bday!!!)

and there are still so many other unanswered questions (holy digimon? who is the true enemy?? WISDOM STONE?????) that haven’t even begun to be answered

so if the writers wanna present a fully-fleshed out plot that so far has only scratched the surface AND introduce essentially 6 more characters down the line, they’d have go at lightning speed and the characterizations would likely suffer *boo hiss*

and honestly the 02 kids just deserve so much better than being thrown in mid-season especially after Tri

also cameos would give me eternal hope for an 02 reboot AND I THINK WE ALL DESERVE IT, TOEI DAMNIT TRI

lastly, they’re not in the title sequence and that’s hint enough for me lol
