[NEW] SebastiAn - Total
A few years back, I recall my older brother giving me a couple of records off his hard drive. One of those records, SebastiAn's Ross Ross Ross EP was my first experience with the artist. I was hooked. SebastiAn employs glitchy, albeit organized beats with familiar, grungy electro synths. If you're alright with a jarringly agressive/loud electro sound, you'll dig this. Can't wait to see this record get some attention in the club scene. SebastiAn - Total out May 30th on Ed Banger Records SebastiAn - Kindercut SebastiAn - C.T.F.O (feat. M.I.A.) SebastiAn - Motor

Record Store Day 2011
So, Tim and I did our usual RSD run and spent way too much on music slabs. It’s okay, though, we made out alright. I can’t recall tim’s but mine are listed below (note: a few records are not RSD releases, but just additions to my collection — noted with an asterisk).
The Black Angels - Phosgene Nightmare
The Black Angels - Another Nice Pair
Grinderman - Evil
13th Floor Elevators - Wait for My Love (7”)
Justin Townes Earle - Move Over Mama (7”)
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring for My Halo*
Christian Bland and The Revelators - The Lost Album (purchased from Christian himself, what!)*
Failure - Fantastic Planet (if you’re hip to this you’ll get it)*
Not a lot of stuff but enough to quench my thirst. Got to see The Black Angels do an in-store to boot.
Record Store Day 2011 = Success.
What’d you get? Let us know in the comments.

I'm a total slacker. After deciding that attending classes was a huge bummer, I decided to set up my semester so that all of my classes were online. Pro tip: it's fucking awesome. I only have to wake up to go to work and I can do my work whenever I want. What does this have to do with anything, you ask? Well, in lieu of completing one of my many assignments for the week, I decided to go on a youtube jaunt for live Spiritualized performances. After a bit of a failure, though, I came across something quite brilliant. Dubbed "2001: A Spiritualized Odyssey," filmmakers The Almighty Sound have created one of the better video mashups I've seen recently. A simple enough formula, TAS have taken Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and set it to a myriad Spiritualized tracks. Opening with the more-than-famous "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space," you'll find around 4 1/2 minutes of black screen (for those familiar with the original film, the same takes place, however, a score by Gyorgy Ligeti plays instead). The project spans the entire film unedited from beginning to end. It's not the best thing in the world, but compared to most of the youtube mashup videos today (which seem to prefer positing dubstep along side this week's meme), it's quite entertaining. Part one is embedded above for your viewing pleasure. To check out the whole project, visit the youtube playlist or the project's website at http://2001aspiritualizedodyssey.com.

[NEW] Youth Lagoon - July + Cannons EP
Tumblr media
Youth Lagoon, the personal lo-fi project of Trevor Powers is a highly emotional effort. His songs are crafted in a way that reflects how he's feeling, or felt, in a very immersive way. After tracking down the two songs from his upcoming LP below, I went in search of a bit more information. I was able to find this interview where Trevor discloses a bit of information about the record, what it means, and how it was recorded. Definitely a great read if you have a few minutes. Take a listen to the "July + Cannons" EP below, and keep an eye on his Bandcamp page for details on the full-length. The Year of Hibernation is due out Summer 2011 via Juno Beach Records. [NEW] BeachesBeaches - BeachesBeaches EP
Tumblr media
This just got me thinking, what would I do with four separate beaches? Let me know what you think. So, anyways, the actual reason for this post: A bit of afternoon stumbling (no thanks to StumbleUpon) has led me to find BeachesBeaches, a no-doubt bedroom based collective that builds tracks out of Beach Boys samples dropped on top of gooey beats. Despite the overwhelming amount of beach references in the indie-sphere these past few months, I think it's safe to say this isn't just another guitar album focused on break ups and the limitless usage of reverb. The best part about all of this is that the entire debut EP is up for free on Bandcamp. BeachesBeaches - Last Night BeachesBeaches - OOAH

[NEW] Dizzy Eyes - Let's Break Up the Band
Holy hiatus, Batman. Yeah, we've been dormant for awhile. Life gets in the way and other things take over. But here's a reason not to cry: Dizzy Eyes, yet another Canadia (yeah, it's spelled wrong on purpose) group that has led me to believe taking out my passport and going for a groupie tour up north may not be the worst idea ever. Coming from their debut 7", "Let's Break Up the Band" reminded me of a Blondie track with Morrisey style vocals. Simple, albeit forgettable, but...great. Take a listen below. Dizzy Eyes - "Let's Break Up the Band +2" out now via Hardly Art. Dizzy Eyes - Let's Break up the Band

Kickstarting Frank & Jesse
Frank & Jesse is an exceptional rock'n'roll outfit from Toledo, OH. I am a fan of both this band and its members and am proud to be working with them to release their debut album on vinyl.
Please help us in any way that you can by donating or spreading the word about this project that excites me to my core. Listen Well Records has been an aspiration of mine for the better part of a decade and I would be thrilled and honored for Let It Come Down to be the inaugural release.
Stay tuned for more from myself and Frank & Jesse on this project.

Following the departure of the Detroit duo, The Quietus and friends bring a wealth of not-exactly-hits from the group. Some pretty good selections that I'd endorse myself. If you're a fan of the stripes', give it a try.

Childish Gambino Got That Swagger
Donald Glover is an modern-day genius and a threat in many fields. He's written for 30 Rock, stars in Community, kills it doing stand-up and writes and records the smartest and (to use his favorite adjective) dopest hip hop available for free.
Glover's musical moniker Childish Gambino (a name produced by the Wu Tang Clan Name Generator) released a few free mixtapes - wherein he penned astoundingly nerdy quips over indie songs (Animal Collective, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, etc) - before releasing a free full-length that showed off his skills atop fresh tunes.
Still, his work habit and dedication are proving to be even more than he's let on. This spring, Glover will be presenting his IAMDONALD tour with stand-up and hip hop sets at each stop. The dates for the tour were announced today at iamdonald.com along with the video for "Freaks and Geeks," a cut from an EP that Gambino will release on March 8th (again for free on his website).
Check the video below and meet me at the Detroit show on May 17th.

[NEW] Teeel - Amulet
Riding on the coattails of the recent Cut Copy release "Zonoscope," Teeel looks to remove the 80's twinge and instead employ a more synth pop focused effort. Not to be mistaken as a copycat, this debut effort is something of a modern Tangerine Dream. Each of the songs on this record evolve into the next, never failing to keep you guessing as to if you've started the next track. It's currently the driving force behind my lack of slumber party and I recommend a similar relaxed setting (the liner notes classify the genre as 'dreambeat') if you choose to listen. Check out two of my favorites below, grab a free download of the single "Triangle Waves," and if you're so inclined snag a copy here. Teeel - Dark Passenger Teeel - Black Diamonds

[STREAM] Cotton Jones - Sit Beside Your Vegetables
Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw have been recording tremendous tunes under several monikers (Page France, The Broadway Hush, Cotton Jones) for years and they show no signs of stopping. Suicide Squeeze announced the release of the dynamic duo's latest EP through Bandcamp. You have absolutely no reason not to drink in all four songs as winter slowly peels away.

Merge is kindly hosting a stream of Telekinesis' 2nd LP "12 Desperate Straight Lines." Give it a go and then swiftly add to cart. There's a handful of dates to support the record. Do yourself a favor and go out for a night of dancing.

[NEW] Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip
If Kevin Shields up and decided to start writing pop music, something tells me it might sound a bit like Ringo Deathstarr. The Austin born fuzz-pop trio released their latest effort "Colour Trip" in the UK on February 15th. U.S. fans will have to wait for a physical release on March 8th, but you can check out two tracks from the album below. Make sure to check their site for updates and grab a copy of the record when it's released. Ringo Deathstarr - Chloe Ringo Deathstarr - Other Things

[NEW] Architecture In Helsinki - "Contact High"
On one overbooked evening in Cleveland, I drove by a long line outside a sold out Spoon show and decided to catch Architecture In Helsinki instead. This was the best luck I've ever seen. AIH was touring in support of In Case We Die and their stage was riddled with props and instruments. Since that day - many years ago - Architecture In Helsinki have been able to do no wrong. They signed to (my favorite) Polyvinyl Records to release a focused, energized album and several singles. They are now planning to release Moment Bends this spring and have unleashed the first single with us. You are going to want to dust off your disco ball, get on your feet, and turn your speakers up for this. I promise.
Listen below or on their website, where you can also see if you could be lucky enough to catch them on tour this spring.
