It's been ages since I've posted something original, apologies my peeps. And ages since I tried to make time to finish this, as much as a sketchdump could ever be finished. But oh boy working on this felt gooooood. A bit crowded but there was a stain on the paper and it had to be made into a sun. :D His Bad Batch attire is surprisingly difficult to draw...have to memorize it better because it's super sexy imho. Hope y'all are alright and well!

That very specific character pairing where they're both broken, but one thinks "I can fix them!" and in the process is forced to also fix themselves. Drink their own medicine, lead by example, self-reflect when trying to show the other why they're loved/worthy of being loved... Healing you is healing myself

Right. So, fella was ready to go home by the time I got there, basically. They initially saw slight signs of- like, the vasculature in his lungs plumping up? Which is USUALLY a congestive heart failure thing... but his heart is fine. Humming along like a finely tuned engine, by dint of the fact that (to my logic) it's effectively been doing weight-lifting his entire life. Speaking of which.... last set of scans said 'oh yeah, no, you've been down by about 20% lung function/capacity your whole life, ever since that real bad case of pneumonia your mom kept saying was nothing even through the week in the hospital.'

and by god, he still had the pipes for 'Stars' despite it all.

Anyway- this was, we found out, the sort of slight dip that can just happen while recovering from this sort of thing. We're learning the new normal, and when things crop up we're not fucking around. And if my boss has further snark to say about twenty minutes off the end of the day, I may start openly talking about the National Labor Relations Act and the fact that overtime rules just got updated on a federal level.

Attempts at Waterbending 🌊

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:

It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and

Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.
