I know this has been brought up before but God. The meaning behind choosing Izzy as the new figurehead. Actively deciding that, after everything, he is going to be the new head that leads them to safety.

So you know how Stede was all 'Blackbeard said you taught him everything he knows' to Izzy...did Ed tell him that? Or is it made up? Because either:

Ed believes this but has never really told Izzy that he values him, but has told Stede or

Stede knows that the only thing Izzy wants is recognition from Ed and he either used that to manipulate him OR he knew the only way Izzy would accept the compliment was if it appeared to come from Ed.

#i think stede does see the value in izzy even if he doesnt see the whole of it and #is sort of clouded by left over resentment/anger #BUT! even if he used ut to just get izzy to help him he knows that izzy is #rn the best crew member on the ship in terms of knowing how to run a ship #and survive at sea #izzy hands #stede bonnet #ofmd

something about how izzy’s way of dealing with everything that happened to him is pretending that a shark took his leg and that it ‘served him right’ for dangling his legs in front of it. because it still lets him hold onto the idea that he deserved it all for provoking the kraken while also taking ed out of the equation

so i've been thinking about the significance of "for the new unicorn". its cute because it's cheeky- a way to give izzy a gift without calling attention to it. obviously the significance of the crew doing something for izzy is impactful, but to call him the new unicorn is to claim him as a part of the ship- a part that he very recently physically damaged but is still there. izzy as the unicorn is not only a part of the ship, but the lead, the first thing oncoming ships see, and the way that they identify the revenge (ed refers to it as stede's "unicorn ship"). it is such an impactful and sweet detail and i LOVE this show also as others have pointed out, knowing izzy can read is a great development but since we know none of the other crew can, it means lucius wrote the note *sob*
