@hexesreality: “ i know i’m not the person you want, but i’m here. ”
Tumblr media
It wasn’t about wishing a certain person to be there with him. Scarlet Witch was just one of those people Frank wasn’t expecting to come to look for him -- to give him some emotional support, which he didn’t understand why. He was broken long time ago, no salvation coming from God Himself.
But one thing Frank had learned about mutants with Logan was that they were more human than... humans. Hell, Frank didn’t even believe he was human anymore -- he was only around to kill and spread death. And yet, people were still trying to “save” him. Save him from what? Himself?
“Who told you I was here?” Frank quietly mumbled as he mentioned the place -- a small diner with few people around.

@hexesreality: “Between you and Wolverine, I can’t really say who’s grumpier.”
Tumblr media
“What’s the meaning of grumpy to you? Someone who won’t talk to people or who keeps complaining about life? Because I’m none of that. Logan, on the other hand...” His tone was serious, hoarse, but one could say he was pulling Wolverine’s leg. Yes, the Punisher had some sense of humor sometimes.

@chokethelight (Mephisto):  "Dear me," Mephisto says grinning, "Look what the cat decided to drag in. Did you miss me that much?"
Tumblr media
“At least I knew I was doing, what made me kill every scum I found...” He found himself bleeding on the ground intensely, staring at the night sky, gasping blood. Next to him, many bodies were piled up, victims of his weapons. Unfortunately, he couldn’t avoid a bullet in his leg, hitting his femoral artery. Frank knew he was dying, this time for good. It wouldn’t take long.
But now, he had to deal with Mephisto, who seemed happy to see him. Great. Not even in death he had peace -- which applied to a man who sought war and killing most part of his life.
“What do you want, Mephisto?” The tone of his voice didn’t sound aggressive -- it was mostly like he was exhausted. Yes, he was tired of that life. He wouldn’t stop.

The last thing he expected was to have to call on Castle for help. Even though he was there for backup, even though he was there just in case something went wrong, a part of him was hoping not to have to call on him for help. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much of a choice. It was either risk the lives of the scientists or accept his help knowing that it would end up with bodies at his feet. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t and at the moment he needed to get the scientists to safety. That was their mission after all. Once he heard the bodies drop to the ground, he moved the scientists forward. There was enough chaos that they could use that for some sort of cover. Steve would also have to thank Castle for the save. Just because he didn’t like how he handled things didn’t mean he wouldn’t appreciate the fact he’d helped him out. These scientists were too damn important to let anything happen to. And should they fail he knew it would be on his shoulders because he was the one in charge.
He actually expected another set of guards through the door. Instead, they were meet with another body and that meant Castle was clearing a path for them. It wasn’t what he’d expected and keeping the scientists ahead of him, he made certain no one was behind them. So far so good, but the chaos would come to an end and the guards would realise that the scientists were missing. A part of him wondered why they hadn’t — he heard something over the radios and it was now apparent that their escape had been noticed. “Castle, they know the scientists have gone missing,” Steve spoke over his comms, hoping the other might be able to keep them off his six. If he could focus on what was in front of him instead of behind him he might be able to get them out. Then again, the other had had cleared the path for him so maybe he should keep him doing just that. Either way, he needed out and he needed out soon. “Looks like we might need more of your help. Do what you can and we should be out soon.”
Tumblr media
The moment Rogers spoke to him over his comms, about the enemies now knowing the scientists’ disappearance, he knew it was time to change the strategy. “I’ve got your back, sir. Go ahead.” -- meaning that he wouldn’t focus on clearing a path for them, but watch their backs. Rogers was more than capable of defending the scientists with his shield if they’re behind him. So, soon enough, the guards were blocking the exits, while others were looking for Rogers and the missing men. Castle made sure to shoot all the enemies who showed up behind them. It didn’t take much time for the enemy to realize Captain America had a sniper support, so they also decided to try to deal with Castle. A couple of snipers showed up -- thankfully, Castle had noticed them sooner, or else he could have been shot. Unfortunately, after dealing with them, he had lost visual contact with his allies.
“Sir, come in. I had a couple of snipers trying to shit my day, and now I need the coordinates of your new position fast.” Castle grunted as he quickly grabbed his weapons, and moved to another point before other snipers would show up to mess up even more with his strategy. He knew well Rogers could deal with the enemies by himself for a short time, with those scientists behind him. But there was chaos in that building, and Castle needed to be back in position to be able to take his allies out of that nightmare -- hopefully, without any casualties. Now that he had found a new position -- a safer one -- Castle could go back to his job. He awaited Rogers’ answer as he looked for them in the building through the scope of his rifle.

One of these days he just might have to test that with Castle; to see if he really would listen to an order. He knew he might’ve been a bit too harsh with the other. All he had to go by was his reputation which wasn’t the best. Just because they were soldiers and understood that sometimes killing was necessary didn’t mean they had to do it constantly. If they could take some of these scientists back for interrogation they might end up with more intel than they’d had before. That was what they needed most, right? Steve wasn’t doubting his plan. Just whether or not Castle might’ve had a point. Most of the men he was about to go up against would readily kill him if given the chance. He didn’t like the idea of killing blindly but one day he might not have a choice. And then he would prove Castle right; that maybe his way of handling things was better than his own.
Shoving it aside, he moved towards the entrance. So far so good. No one had realised he was there though he was certain once he stepped foot inside all the alarms would go off. Which meant he’d be on a timer. At least he had backup should he not come out. He didn’t want to rely on Castle to come inside. They were going to need his expertise to get out of there and if he was in the building, too, they were going to have problems with their escape plan. Slipping inside, he moved towards where the scientists should be. Steve didn’t waste much time. The longer he was in there the more difficult it would be. Any resistance he came across he left unconscious behind him. Once he finally found the scientists it took some encouragement before they agreed to come with him. “Castle we’re —” He was about to tell him they were on their way when trouble managed to find him. Trouble on his own he could handle. With the others? It was going to be more difficult.
Tumblr media
Castle had studied all Rogers’s plan, especially his route to find the scientists and his escape. So even though outside the building, he moved around to where Rogers could be, counting the minutes. He trusted the man to reach the objective in the right time, his rifle always pointed at the windows -- and Rogers would show up, and knock the enemies down. No need for Castle to act out since it could call some attention. He was there to provide support if things went shitty. Until Rogers found the scientists, things were going smoothly -- then, when Rogers’s voice was cut out suddenly. Castle frowned deeply at that, his eyes immediately found his ally surrounded by guards. That was when Castle had to toss his harmless rifle aside to get his “real” one - between Castle and the guards’ lives, of course he would choose the Captain’s.
Without hesitation, Castle shot a couple of enemies who were blocking the door with efficiency, silent as ever. No doubt the man was feared in Marine Recon, during his time as a black ops soldier. The guards were caught by surprise, disoriented by the sudden deaths -- a perfect time for Rogers and the scientists to escape that room. Castle knew well the man would do his job, so he proceeded for the next strategic spot outside the building, taking his weapons with him. And, before Rogers could reach the corridor, Castle got rid of the guards there, clearing a path for him. Unfortunately, the scientists could be a problem for Rogers to protect, so Castle decided to wait for them to show up in the corridor before following to the next point.

“I could have, but would you have honestly listened?” Some soldiers would readily listen to him while others? They had no interest in returning to that life. Not that he could blame them. It was a struggle for all of them to deal with what they did and what had happened to him. It was why he was putting things in a way that told them what he wanted instead of making them orders. Unfortunately, it was a lesson that he struggled with but he was trying. He just had to hope that Castle would understand why he was putting things this way. Steve didn’t want to make them orders but neither did he want there to be a trail of bodies left in their wake either. Not when he’d seen plenty of them during the war or when he was stuck on missions where they had no other choice. All that aside, they were focused on the information gathering ahead of them. Get in, get the information and get out. That had been his plan. But now he might need to bust a few heads to get what they needed. At least he had good backup.
“If the alarms go off do what you have to,” was the last thing he said before moving towards the building. It was going to go against what he’d told him but if he started to get overwhelmed he’d need Castle’s help. “Also if I’m not back soon feel free to come in after me.”
Tumblr media
“I would have, sir.” Frank repeated calmly, almost immediately. Indeed Frank wouldn’t care about the lives of a bunch of corrupted motherfuckers, but only Captain America could give him an order and he would stay put. Lucky bastards, they were. They should owe Rogers for saving their lives in anticipation. In any case, orders or not, Frank would follow Rogers’ plans, because he trusted the man to do the right thing. He was the hero of the Second World War, he knew well what he was about to do. Working with a man like him was the same as working with Fury -- no need to think for two, no concern, focus on the mission only.
Frank adjusted himself and his rifle in a good position, and watched Rogers going in the building through the scope. It would be hard to protect the man from outside, but Castle was a competent sniper, smart and a strategist. He knew well he wouldn’t have to use his rifle so much, and that Rogers would return. When a man was about to turn around, nearly catching Rogers, Castle would shoot him with a dart, tranquilizing him immediately. He never told Rogers about it, though he knew the man would appreciate the gesture of not using real bullets.

No, he would. Somebody has to, even if it is a futile effort, even though Castle doesn’t deserve it, somebody has to. It was, just – the right thing to do. Was sure it’s what god would want him to do.
Tumblr media
Of course, that didn’t mean god meant for him to be getting quite this… chummy with the guy. Castle’s hand, the one currently stroking him was beat to enough hell that he can practically feel the suffering it’s inflicted on others. Just the thought should be enough to turn his stomach.
And yet, when Frank tries to give him the kiss off his response is impulsive, and immediate. A hand of his own reaching out, taking the other by the cheek.
❝ You too ❞
Thumb brushes over Frank’s lips so he’s sure of exactly where to put his as he draws himself into them.
Tumblr media
Frank surely didn’t expect Murdock’s reaction to be... quite direct, but the tension was there for years, even when they were trying to stop each other. It was... nice. Murdock’s lips were soft, a surprise for someone who would fight criminals every night -- though he was also a lawyer, he would need to take care of his looks.
Thinking about looks, Murdock did look gorgeous. It might be strange to mention that when the man was covered in bruises and cuts, but Frank’s taste was rather... unusual. It almost felt like a sin to kiss him back when he was in that state.
The kiss was timid, no tongue. He was caught by surprise, after all. Lips brushed together for a moment, and Frank hesitantly pulled back, averting his eyes. That was a dangerous path. His hand dropped to the blankets, and he covered Murdock’s body with them, licking his own lips. “I’ll be here.”

The feeling of Frank’s rough fingertips gently combing his hair was an unexpected one.  And while not unwanted one had to marvel at the mental gymnastics it must have taken to make such an obviously affectionate gesture like that, while maintaining it’s simply for the good of the community.
Castle was full of it, but what he said next was a harsh yet needed reminder as to why. Frowns.
❝ You don’t have to ❞He answers, with a great deal of regret.  ❝ I’m under no illusions about the things you’re capable of ❞
Tumblr media
Murdock’s hair was soft in contrast to Frank’s rough fingertips. He didn’t move when the man broke the silence once more, nails scratching the scalp, giving him a numb sensation. “Believe me, Murdock... if you really knew about my predatory side, you wouldn’t be trying to change my mind. Or even having faith on me.”
But that was enough of talking. It was interesting how Murdock made a conversation entirely about Castle. It could even be annoying sometimes.
“Get some rest. Or at least, try.”

Unfortunately, he did know how Castle worked. It went against everything he stood for and it was why he didn’t want to work with him. He knew the other had his own code, had his own methods and far too many times he knew they would clash far more times than not. But what other choice did he have? This was the sort of assignment that would take both of them and while he didn’t like his methods, he couldn’t exactly argue with them. In war people did things they wouldn’t do any other time. Steve had done plenty of things during his time in the war, things he wasn’t very proud of. But never had it been enough for him to change the man he was and do things like Castle. “I do know how you work and I know all about your methods, too,” he pointed out, trying not to allow his own opinions to colour their conversation. It wouldn’t help either one of them if they couldn’t even have a simple conversation. “These men have information that we need to find the hostages that have been taken. SHIELD has already tried and failed with their methods. Hence why we reached out to you. But killing them won’t get us the information we need.”
Tumblr media
“Alright.” So no morality discourse? At least Rogers knew well that wasn’t the right time for debates. Frank could play along with that ‘rule’. “You know... you could have simply told me not to kill them, sir. I’d follow your orders.” Because Rogers had no idea how important he was for Castle -- the man he was, had been fighting for, and he had never changed his morality. He was a true hero, one America desperately needed. So was Frank a patriot? Not really, but he knew the importance of a figure like Rogers for the rest of the country -- unlike corrupted generals and politicians, who poisoned the land like Agent Orange. As much as Rogers didn’t want to see it (or refused to believe it), he was Frank Castle’s idol.
Frank checked his own sniper rifle, an M82, waiting for Rogers to say something else, but the time was short. “Okay, so let’s do this, sir. I’ll cover you.”

The atmosphere thick with melancholy quietly drinking his coffee while listening to him speak the lawyer, when prompted and without hesitation gives Castle a weak smile, and more importantly, his word.
Tumblr media
❝ Your secret is as safe as if was my own ❞
What a strange thing to hear himself say, but he meant it. For all his and Frank Castle’s differences it was reassuring to know they could be set aside, that Castle knew he had somebody he could trust, and that that someone happens to be him.
❝ And for the record, I agree with you, for once. The Punisher’s actions have made it impossible for you to ever go anywhere near that girl. But clearly she’s still with you, keeping her close might be the salvation you so stubbornly don’t believe in ❞
Tumblr media
“Thanks, Murdock.” Talking to the man about his daughter had removed a huge burden from his back, even though it would be just temporarily. He was thankful that he had someone he could trust fully, without feeling like pressing or threatening them. God, he missed Micro, though he would never admit it.
“I told you a hundred times that I’m doomed. The redeeming time has already passed. I can’t stop doing what I’m doing, it’s irreversible. Just like you, who can’t stop being the Devil.”
Resting his glass on the table, Frank gave the man a serious look, nails scratching the wooden surface lightly. “Told you the only way to stop me is kill me. And that’s why we’re like oil and water... you can’t kill me and I’ll keep killing. You call yourself the Devil, but you’re doing God’s work, what He want. I do what God should have done long time ago.”
