I think part of why I have trouble explaining pain to the doctor is when they ask about the pain scale I always think “Well, if someone threw me down a flight of stairs right now or punched me a few times, it would definitely hurt a lot more” so I end up saying a low number. I was reading an article that said that “10” is the most commonly reported number and that is baffling to me. When I woke up from surgery with an 8" incision in my body and I could hardly even speak, I was in the most horrific pain of my life but I said “6” because I thought “Well, if you hit me in the stomach, it would be worse.”

Choke. Just think about it, seriously. Think about what choking is and imagine speaking while it’s happening. That would fuckin’ hurt, man.

Hiss. Look, it’s just not possible, okay? No matter how “evil” you want your character to seem.

Snarl. Animals snarls. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast snarls. The Hulk snarls. You know who doesn’t snarl? PEOPLE WHEN THEY’RE SPEAKING.

Shriek. Come on, 99% of the time, “shriek” is not the word you want.Let’s face it: if you put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, your reader gets the picture. Don’t bring to mind banshees and screaming toddlers.

Sneer. I’m not even going to bother explaining this one. “SNEER” ISN’T EVEN A SOUND.

I see people misinterpret Maomao's Granny sometimes

Like you guys know shes joking, right? Where do you think Maomao gets her fucked up sense of humor from? Granny hasnt been serious about selling Maomao. If she had then she would have sold Maomao to her biological father. But Maomaos wishes were more important than his money or even the cushy life he would provide her. If you want to know the kind of character Granny is then you need to look at her actions;

-hires Maomao as a server (who are not allowed to be touched)

-never sells Maomao despite high ranking general dogging her for years

-keeps xxx in the hostile despite the risks to her hard fought reputation

-badgers her workers to marry out even as they hold high status and make money in the business- this is bc she wants them to achieve the most comfortable life they can

-has never married off a courtesan that didnt agree to it (sleepwalking arc discussed two although i think only the faker was baba's employee)

-throws out paying customers who are rude and disrepsectful

Granny and Maomao have an on-going bit. Which is why Maomao always goes home and says hello and Granny has never actually sold her
