horrific article from the bbc broke last about israel detaining healthcare workers, stripping them naked, and beating them for days on end. we already knew israel was doing this to palestinian detainees, but to be deliberately targeting medical personnel--doctors and nurses and medical assistants on the ground trying to heal wounded palestinians--and then literally torturing them are on levels of cruelty i can't even begin to compute.

a humanitarian law expert in this article calls the footage coming out of this "concerning." i call it the terms racists love to throw baselessly at arabs: barbaric and inhumane.

something that's been brewing within me recently, what with the current genocide in palestine, the epidemic of intimate partner violence against women as well as femicide, is how weak the feminist movement has become - and some of it is certainly targeted and organised backlash following the strides made during the Me Too movement, but some of it is truly just young girls and women who don't have the slightest inkling or understanding of the very real dangers and problems that women face

we are so connected worldwide on the internet, we have instagram and twitter and tiktok and so many apps, but we see just a proliferation of aesthetics and trends with no real sense of connection with the reality of our worlds

in 2020, forty thousand women and girls were killed worldwide - the UNODC says a woman or girl was killed by a family member every 11 minutes in 2020. and now there are girls online saying they hate feminism for making them work or study. women have fought and died for our dignity and basic rights, and women are dying on a daily basis, being murdered by the men they love without impunity. and we're arguing about whether barbie was feminist or not.

we're losing sight of the material realities of our world, they've been whitewashed away online. there are any number of women on a daily basis who are being trafficked, abused, sexually assaulted, groomed. we don't need less feminism - we need MORE of it in fact, another wave entirely. we need to be more stringent, go on general strikes and withhold our labour for our rights, we need to actively protest and rally to change legislation that harms us, we need to do all we can to end the war in palestine for the safety and hygiene and human rights of so many beleaguered women who cannot give birth or menstruate or even breathe in peace.

and yet we're arguing about the mob wife aesthetic and calling it a day. i'm really just shaken i guess, totally moved and so impressed by the millions of feminist women fighting every single day for our rights, even for the dumbest and most ignorant wankers who aren't grateful for the privileges we have been given. thank you so so much, i'm so grateful to feminists who have taught me so much - crenshaw, burke, roy, hill collins, lorde and so many more, thank you.

I really liked your "don't vote for the lesser evil" post, do you have any suggestions on how to intimate politicians like Biden into either changing policy or resigning with my vote/other political actions? I keep hearing that my vote is powerful but it's still hard for it not to feel like a drop in a bucket, would calling representatives and threatening not to vote for them help?

yes. i also believe that direct confrontation, like the protestors who stood up to biden on the campaign trail, is necessary. he should not go anywhere without seeing a tangible threat to his campaign.

everything happening now is working, it's just not enough. all it does is make the biden admin release near-daily "leaks" about "how sad everyone in the administration is" and how "they don't approve of israel's actions" and throw in a token "biden is trying so hard to get netanyahu to stop itttt" for liberals to cling to

but the fact that they feel compelled to release these leaks and distract with ivy-league sham trials means they do feel pressure. it just has to be more consistent and unrelenting and it needs to be targeted at the biden admin specifically. if every demographic looked like the 18-29 voter demographics and the under 35 voter demographics democrats would call for a ceasefire tomorrow.

thats why my post is not addressed to people already on the streets, blocking the roads and the train stations and calling their reps. they're doing the right thing!! they're absolutely using every available avenue both as individuals and collectives.

the pressure is right and correct, but it keeps being undone by the liberals who immediately reassure the democrats they'll vote for them even if every last palestinian is killed (plus some lebanese and yemeni citizens for good measure). these people, in the name of defending democracy, are safeguarding a genocide and creating oppositional pressure to those who are actually defending democracy. these people are evil.
