Day 13 update!! :3

The only pain I feel is my scars, but they're more uncomfortable-feeling than hurting >w< stopped my oxy 5 days ago and I'm back on testosterone!!

My grafts are healing fast!! One of my nips is still black, though ;O; (scary) but they're bleeding like they're supposed to so I think it's fine!! (Bleeding = blood supply, which means my body has not rejected them)

I do however have a cold, because I got an upper respiratory infection from a concert. Yeah, I'm wreckless, sue me!! I was at the front of the pit, too!! Yeah!! I was on STAGE, too!! And I survived!!

Carmen is one of three playable characters in NIGHTHIVE//SKINDEEP uwu

I mean, you can pick any name you want for them, but their canon name is Carmen ♡

☆ PRE//NIGHTHIVE ☆

Carmen is a rescue monster who was born in a laboratory; rescued and set free around 14 years old. They're a dog monster like Dawsin, and like Dawsin, was repeatedly put through resilience testing. However, Carmen's experimentation was mainly just taking physical abuse from scientists, be it impact or vivisection. Carmen quickly grew up into complacency, always ready to take a beating. They don't even cry out anymore if there isn't a blade involved; they just let out a little "umpfh" when they're attacked. Carmen's pain receptors are mostly fried past age 11, their knife phobia is just leftover PTSD from before. Scientists would cut their fresh stitches, take out a vital organ, and see how well they'd do without it. Despite spending hours missing vital organs, Carmen has proven to be resilient and extremely lucky. They pulled through most of the time; they'd be brought back if they didn't. They put a lot of money into them, it'd be a waste to let them go.

Unlike most rescue monsters, Carmen no longer has another monster or a demon for protection. They're alone bc their bonded partner was recaptured; they suffer from a lot of guilt and feel it's their fault it happened. Carmen doesn't know self-defense; their jaw had been fractured a few times during their time at the lab. They also suffer from poor bite strength.

☆ POST//NIGHTHIVE ☆

Carmen doesn't know that the monster they couldn't save has already been rescued by the agency Gatherine volunteers for. His name is Miha, he was adopted by nighthive, and now works as a sting operative for the rescue agency. Carmen and Miha reunite canonically after roughly a week, rekindling their relationship. They have more trouble relating now, though, as Miha has become much stronger and decisive since nighthive rescued him. Carmen has remained the same. They try, though. Carmen slowly becomes more independent and confident, but is often stifled by Gatherine's coddling. The coddling eventually subsides.

☆ RELATIONSHIPS ☆

Carmen appears on a list for Nighthive's operatives to traffic. Gatherine chooses their file and starts her usual practice of light stalking to figure out their routine and the best time to snatch them up, but she quickly grows enamored with them. The observation period goes on for months, with Gatherine becoming more brazen with following Carmen. They eventually forget to lock their door after coming home from work and fall asleep. Gatherine makes her move and steals Carmen. They don't wake until she wakes them up in the torture chamber, Gatherine adores their bargaining and begging. She reassures them she's not a scientist.

Gatherine has a serious fixation on Carmen. She never planned on harvesting their organs; Gatherine paid a favor to get their name off of the list and effectively saved them. It's not much better than getting harvested, though, since she wanted to keep them for herself.

She's obsessed with the taste of their flesh and blood, which is highly unfortunate for them. Carmen is overly obedient and subservient to her, frequently flinching if she moves too fast near them. She'd never beat them, but her weapon of choice for Carmen are her claws. She'll claw them open during hugs and other gentle activities, leading to Carmen fully expecting her to cut them open and drink their blood. They're often faint and a bit weaker than they should be from Gatherine taking so much blood from them; there's not enough time in between for their body to recover.

Gatherine really does love Carmen though, affectionately calling them "Carmini". She's very gentle and polite toward them when she's not clawing them, although she doesn't allow them much privacy. Carmen sometimes acts like she's the air they breathe, and is very well aware she's the reason they're still alive. They love the warmth of her body and her touch. Carmen craves the gentle caress of her lightly calloused hands and likes when she trims her claws, they cut them less that way. They love Gatherine very much; Carmen believes they need her to survive and have grown very dependent on her in particular, despite being independent when she's not home. They see her as their girlfriend, though the title is not there.

They get along well with Gatherine's foster monsters, they can sometimes be found in a pile with the others in Dawsin's room. Dawsin and his bonded partner like that Carmen smells like their mom, and they're nice and warm because they're a monster like them. They're friendly with each other, but they're not necessarily friends. It's more like a puppy playdate.

Bresklyn grows easily irritated with Carmen until they become more independent, simply because of the attention they get from Gatherine. There are a few canon instances of Bresklyn attempting to punch Carmen, sometimes successfully getting a hit on them. Gatherine always catches her; the habit quickly dies and Carmen and Bresklyn are able to be friends. Carmen cares for Bresklyn and tries to help her around the house the best they can.

Stacy hates Carmen, but that's to be expected. She's a highly jealous individual.

Benny finds Carmen to be frustrating and knees them in the stomach every time he visits. He can also be found shoulder-checking them, shoving his fingers into their wounds, and cornering them. Nothing too serious, he doesn't actually want to hurt them, it's just light bullying. Benny has a small crush on Carmen and finds it cute when they cry, being why he does it.

She gets your address from the creatures who decide you're good to harvest and hunts you down physically. Honestly, you can find her at shops and on the streets after sundown with a picture she's received of you when she's trying to learn your routine. Gatherine likes to really plan out her kidnappings, which can backfire due to her getting to know a victim too well, but she's usually able to carry out what she promised.

Gatherine has a bunch of photocopies of the city (Skraatmal) in simplistic map form, so she can draw out an efficient route to get to your house or work and take you with the least amount of resistance from you and/or others. She'll pick a time you're likely to be alone, like walking home, working late, when your family isn't home, or when you're on a smoke break. She's fully capable of snatching you out in public, though, if she can't seem to find a time where you're alone. As mentioned a while ago, she will dislocate the legs of any family member who tries to stop her, because she doesn't want to kill or dismember anyone who isn't her intended target. That hasn't stopped her before, though.

Demons are extremely confused and scared after benders. The lucky ones, like Gatherine, are often found and calmed down by loved ones, but there are also demon rehab centers located in NERVE (demon suburbs on the surface). Rehab usually just looks like a small bit of chemical restraint, refills of their bender blockers, and possibly a companion creature/calmor. Benny is Gatherine's assigned calmor, Bresklyn is her self-proclaimed calmor. They're given that title because they're good with calming and deescalating demons, they're also generally unimposing, giving them a more gentle demeanor.

I've been okay!! I'm struggling with depression, but in the way where I don't feel sad? I'm just losing interest in like, everything. I'm about to go in for top surgery though, so I think I'll be less depressed during my recovery!! I'm still working on my game, I'm just struggling to focus and create art </3 the coding is going great, though!!
