Game of Survival - Chapter 13

Dean picked at his greasy burger wrapper, crumpling it even more with his fingers as he chose his next words.
Finally, he managed a low, hoarse, āMy family.ā
Understanding flooded Casā features, and the look in those beautiful blue eyes grew more serious as he studied Deanās expression, as he took in the stiffness in the hunterās shoulders, the way Dean couldnāt quite get himself to stop playing with his burger wrapper, like he just needed to find something to busy himself with before he started fidgeting in his seatāwhich all undoubtedly betrayed the hunterās anxiety pretty easily.
āAre you still afraid they could be hunting you?ā
Dean held back a scoffābut only just barely.
āI know they are, Cas,ā he said. āI just have no idea why they lied to everyone about what happened to me. They even had a damn funeral for me and everything! And Iāve been trying to think of a reason why theyād do that, but I canāt think of anything that actually makes sense. I just... I have no freaking idea what theyāre planning.ā
Maybe they wanted to make sure that they would be the ones to find him? If all the other hunters knew whatād really happened to him, maybe there would be some competition for who would actually get to him first? His family might have lied to everyone just to make sure no one else was gonna try to hunt him down before they could. They were probably just trying to make sure thatĀ they would be the ones to kill him.
That theory made sense, at least, but it still hurt just to think about it.
Fuck, he really hoped that his family hadnāt roped Sam into this mess. John might try, but Dean liked to think that Bobby, Ellen, Jody and Donna wouldnāt let him.
But if Sam wanted in on this, would they try to stop him?

Only one day, that changed. All it took was one second, just a fleeting moment of distraction during a hunt, for Dean to lose everything heād ever had, for him to become a cursed creature like the ones heād spent so many years of his life trying to rid this world of.

Hello, I'm new here to Tumblr and Ao3 and I just wanted to say that you story's are Amazing! and I can't stop reading them, (I've maybe read A drop in the ocean 5 times now lol) and you've probably been asked this question a lot but when are you going to update a drop in the ocean??
Hiii š
Oh, I donāt mind it at all! It makes super happy to know that so many people still want to see that story updated, even after so long. š
I gotta be honest, thoughāI really donāt know when Iāll update A Drop in the Ocean again. Iāve been struggling a lot with writing canon ever since the finale, and my inspiration for it kinda comes and goes.
What I can tell you for sure is that Iāve pulled A Drop in the Ocean back to the drawing board, so that storyās probably gonna be a lot shorter than my original plan for it. Iāve cut out two (maybe three) major storylines already, because I know I wonāt be able to write them, and Iām still trying to figure out how to make everything else fit without them.
So unfortunately, my answer is that I really donāt know. Game of Survival has become my comfort fic ever since the show ended, and Iāve been focusing more on writing that one, but sometimes I get a random burst of inspiration for Coming Home as well. So in the near future, Iād only expect updates for those two. Iām sorry. š
(Also, Iām sorry that it took me so long to respond, but lifeās been pretty chaotic. Thatās also why I havenāt posted a new chapter for any story in over 4 months. š But things are finally calming down now, and if everything goes right, Iāll be posting a new chapter of Game of Survival today.)
Thank you so much for reaching out! It really means a lot. Iāll try to keep you guys updated.
Also, thank you so, so much for reading my stories. I know I take forever to update and sometimes I just vanish for a few months, but know that I really appreciate each and every single kind word. Seriously, thank you. š

Hi, hope your doing well but I was just wondering if there are any updates on A Drop in the Ocean and Coming Home
Hello! š
Yes! Okay, so, after about a year of not being able to write canon!verse at all, I think Iām finally feeling up for it again. I wrote the first two chapters of Coming Home while fueled by a whole lot of anger after the finale, but when that anger faded, it got replaced by... well, Iām not sure what to call it, but my mental health took a serious nosedive last year and I wasnāt sure how to deal with it.
But Iāve been working on the next chapter of Coming Home over the past couple of weeks, and I havenāt gotten myself triggered or anything, so I think I might be getting better. I still need to thread carefully, but this is certainly progress.
My next update will probably be for Game of Survival, but Iāll try to update Coming Home after that. And if that goes well, then I think Iāll finally be able to pick up A Drop in the Ocean again.
Iāll keep you guys updated! For now, all I can say is that Iām trying, and that I think Iām getting better. Iām sorry for the long hiatus, but I had to take care of my mental health before anything else. š

Dean huffed, shaking his head and tearing his gaze away again, glancing out at the empty street one more time, even though nothing about it had changed, and no car had driven by since heād come out here. He suddenly felt like his shoulders weighed a ton, like his body was too small, skin too tight around his bones. His voice came out as nothing more than a tiny, struggled whisper when he said, āI killed a hunter, Cas.ā
Because at the end of the day, thatās just what happened. No matter the circumstances thatād led Dean to that situation, no matter the reasons behind his actions, the bottom line was still the same.
āHe was a friend of my dadās,ā he continued. āI met him when I was what, twenty-something? Twenty-three, I think. I knew that guy for over a decade, I worked with him a few times before, fought alongside him. And I just... I killed him, just like that. What the hell does that make me?ā
Just another monster?
For some reason, he couldnāt bring himself to say those last three words out loud.
āThatās not the question you should be asking yourself.ā
Dean turned his head so that he could look at Cas again, and he was surprised by the confident, determined look that he found in Casā eyes.
āHe killed that boy, without even the smallest shred of regret,ā Cas explained. āAnd the fact that he knew you for over a decade meant absolutely nothing to him the moment he realized you werenāt human. He was ready to kill you back there, Dean. If Iād walked into that room just one second later, I wouldāve had to watch him kill you. And something tells me he wouldnāt have regretted it afterwards. He wouldnāt have been plagued by guilt like you are. Now, what does that make him?ā
Dean pressed his lips together, bowing his head, and Cas apparently took that as a cue to keep going.
āThat was self-defense, Dean. It was either you, or him. You made the right call.ā
Cas had a pointāDean knew he had, but he still found himself shaking his head, because that wasnāt all that it came down to.
āI didnāt just do it for myself.ā He raised his head again, giving Cas a sad, heavy look. āHe had my phone, and he looked through it, so I... I knew heād try to find you guys. For a while there, I was terrified that after he was done with me, heād try to impersonate me in a text or something to draw all of you out. And that meant he also had your numbers, so there were a lot of ways he could find you guys. And then after you saved me, after he saw you, I... I knew that I wasnāt the only one heād hunt down, if we let him go. Heād go after you too. And he wouldnāt stop until he found youāall of you. Trust me.ā
The look in Casā eyes grew sadder after hearing all that, and he tilted his head slightly to the side as he regarded Dean with one of those intense looks of his that pretty much pinned the hunter to his spot.
Finally, Cas whispered, in a gravelly, rumbly voice that came out so low, it had a chill running down Deanās spine, āAnd even if you had every single reason imaginable to do what you did, you still have guilt eating away inside of you. Thatās what makes you different from him, Dean. None of what he said back there was true. Youāre not a monsterāfar from it.ā

Bestie in your last chapter of GoS (which is AMAZING BTW every time I get an update notification it makes my day) you actually wrote the words "vampire in a trenchcoat" to describe Cas
Just here to
One, tell you I dropped my phone in my face laughing, and Two, ask how long have you been waiting to add a joke/reference
Omg, yes!! I waited actual YEARS to make that joke! Ever since I started writing the story, really. I remember trying to write it into the first chapter and thinking it wouldnāt really fit, so I decided to wait until Dean and Cas were closer and itād feel a little more natural.
And I was definitely giggling to myself while I wrote it into the last chapter. š Iām so glad you caught it!
Iām sorry about the phone dropping, though! But I gotta admitāthatās the exact reaction I was hoping for with that line! šššš
Thank you so much! šš„° That chapter turned out to be one of my favorites so far. It took a little longer than I planned to get it written and ready to post, but I thought it was better to really take my time with it, because it was such an important one. Iām hoping it was worth the long wait. š

āIām so sorry, Jack,ā he whispered. āI never wanted this for you. Iād give anything to undo this if I could. Iām sorry I couldnāt stop it. Iām sorry I wasnāt there to protect you when I shouldāve been.ā
Jack shook his head, finally letting his eyes slip open again so that he could give him a lookāthe intense sort of look that both he and his father were pretty much known for. āIt wasnāt your fault.ā
Castiel huffed, shaking his own head. Heād already had this discussion with himself several times over the past few weeks, and he always reached the exact same conclusion.
āOf course it was.ā
At that, Jack finally moved, shifting on the bed so that he could raise the upper half of his body and sit up, that intense look still very much present in his dark blue eyes, a heavy frown in his brows as he fixed his father with an unwavering stare.
āIt wasnāt,ā he insisted, and his voice sounded firm, certain. āDad, none of this was your fault.ā
āI left you,ā Castiel insisted. āYou and Claireāand everyone else. I knew there was danger out there. I did, because this has been my life for over two years now, and I worried about youāof course I did. I checked all the main Pontiac news sites every week, just to make sure you were all okay, that nothing had happened to you, but I... I never thought that someone would actuallyāā
His voice failed, breaking before he could let out anything else. He pressed his lips together and shook his head in frustration.
āI was foolish. I shouldāve seen this coming.ā
āThat still doesnāt make it your fault.ā
Castiel gave his son a sad, unconvinced look.
āIt doesnāt,ā Jack insisted, shaking his own head, his voice coming out louder, even stronger. āItās their faultāwhoever took uncle Jimmy, and you, and all of us. Theyāre the bad ones.ā

Q: Are you done with chapter 30 of A Drop in the Ocean?
Not at all, unfortunately. Honestly, I havenāt written A Drop in the Ocean in a while. I tried to work on it a couple months back, and I got about 2k words written before I had to drop it, but I think Iām finally feeling well enough to try again.
The thing isāSPN was my comfort show, and now thatās completely ruined. I canāt even watch it anymore. The few times I tried led me to yet another hit on my mental health and I simply canāt deal with that anymore. Itās been exhausting, trying to deal with my anxiety without it, so again, my mental health still isnāt all that great. Also, I still donāt know what Iām gonna do when I feel the need to rewatch an episode for reference, but chances are Iām just gonna have to go by memory from now on.
Long story shortāI wasnāt in a good place mentally to work on A Drop in the Ocean because itās too close to canon and it usually requires me to rewatch episodes of the show, but Iām feeling a bit better now, so Iām gonna try again. I might deviate a bit from canon from now on, though, because I really canāt watch the show anymore.
Also, please donāt expect an update for that story too soon. I barely have anything written for chapter 30 yet, so itās gonna be a little while. My next updates should be mostly for Game of Survival because that story has basically become my new comfort fic, and then a few for Coming Home as well, which has also been helping me a lot. I also have a couple new works that Iāve been working onātwo one shots that Iām hoping to post soon.
Iām writing again, but Iām being careful. Baby steps, I suppose.
Iām sorry if anyoneās disappointed. Iām getting a lot of comments and messages about A Drop in the Ocean, but my mental health took a huge hit from the finale, and Iām still struggling to pick up the pieces. Hopefully, Iāll get there eventually.
Much love,

Fanfiction Update
Hey, guys! Just a little life updateāIām back to writing regularly again! Iām sorry for the lack of updates over the past few months, and I know I missed a lot of messages and comments, but I was just super busy for a while and my mental health hasnāt been all that great lately, so I had to take a bit of a break.
Iām back now, though! Still not doing all that great mentally, but I have a lot more free time now, so you can expect more consistent updates from now on. More details on that soon. š

Game of Survival - Chapter 9
āCrowley?ā Dean asked. āHoly fuck, I never thought Iād ever say this, but man, itās good to see you.ā
Crowley rolled his eyes, huffing. For a moment, he let his eyes travel, taking in the room in front of him, all seven pairs of eyes that were currently focused on himāmost of them wide and wary. Eventually, though, he snapped out if it, and then wasted no time before racing to the back of the room, making a beeline for Deanās cell, not sparing the others even another glance.
āYes, I know, Iām unbelievably stunning, truly a sight for sore eyes. Thatās nothing new, Winchester.ā He started examining the lock on Deanās cell. āIām assuming they gave you something, if you didnāt bust out of this poor excuse for a cell on your own.ā
āDead manās blood,ā Dean confirmed. āAnd I gotta sayānot into it.ā
Crowley snorted, dropping his blade to the floor so that he could grip the bars of Deanās cell with both hands. Taking the hint, Dean also gripped the bars, determined to help as much as he could, even weakened as he was. And so they worked togetherāCrowley pulling the door, and Dean pushing it with as much strength as he could. The door budged a few times, the metal whining and complaining loudly, until eventually the lock snapped, broken, and the door to Deanās cell finally slid open with an ugly, metallic wailācourtesy of the old, rusty hinges it was mounted on.
āFucking finally,ā Dean muttered, stumbling out of his cell and into the small, narrow corridor that ran the entire length of the room, from the big metal door Crowley had just walked through to the bare brick wall in the very back. āWhatās going on? Where are the others?ā
āRoyally screwed, most likely.ā

Are you done with A Drop in the a Ocean?
In reply to @deafeningwinnerpizzazipper
Not at all! I have a lot planned for that story still, I just had to go on a bit of a break for a while. The finale hit me pretty hard and this year has been pretty insane. But things should start calming down in a couple months, so you can expect more consistent fic updates closer to the end of the year.

Thinking about her again š
her:
at no point in the show does dean ever deny having romantic feelings for cas. every time hes teased, mocked, or its even brought up he just dodges the question (shut ur face get in the car (cassie parallel who he was in love with), he was ur boyfriend first, etc) and despite the numerous opportunities to deny their attraction towards each other, never does dean go āno grossā, or āno i dont like cas like thatā, or literally any form of denial, dean just kinda takes it and swallows full innuendo intended and then changes the subject as fast as possible. cas was the same, every time people point out their relationship (all to save one man, he likes you, whos in love with you, thought you two were joined at the everything, etc) he never says āno its not like thatā or anything to deny it. what im saying is that they 1) both were in love with each other, 2) both could not verbally bring themselves to deny it, and 3) only difference is that cas got to speak his truth and confess and dean never even got the chance.
