There’s a whole lot more to triathlon than swim, bike and run. . Strength, mobility, flexibility, nutrition, rest and recovery to just name a few. . There’s always a workout in (at least) one of the 3 disciplines (esp IM training) and the others are always sprinkled in throughout. . Today, a 1 hr predawn ride 🚴 and strength training later in the day. . Tomorrow, we swim...and prepare for the big training blocks of the weekend with stretching and mobility (Yoga) and getting all the fuel in to keep us energized⛽️ and rest 😴 to refresh us. . Sunday... How it stared 👆🏼 🏃🏻‍♀️🥶🌧 🌬 How it ended ▶️ 🧘🏻‍♀️🙏🏼 . Training week totals ▶️▶️ . There was no harm in pushing this last run of the week to tomorrow. . But, why? I have friends in colder climates getting their training done. I’ve run in stormier weather. And it’s just water, right? . Getting out my comfort zone and building on the mental toughness is part of the package deal. Long run in 37 degree rain, done. ☑️ . Yoga to help with mobility and flexibility so that this body will withstand the hours of training still ahead, done. ☑️ . . We’re bringing sexy back. 🤪 . **Some levity in a heavy time. 🙂 . We come to do the hard work but having fun and doing it with the BEST people, sure makes it seem not so hard. 🥰 . I start and I end the training weeks with a swim and lately, I’ve been so very lucky to share these workouts with my sisters/friends/teammates 🥰 Today w @coachjotridot @rosannabennett @jetjanie13 and Monday enjoying perfect outdoor weather with @cj_trimom - sooooo awesome to learn, share and laugh!! . I spent the majority of my workout on drills today. I may sound like a broken record, but every tip turns into a tweak and an immediate improvement. Is my overall swim magically changing on a dime? No. It’s going to take lots of practice and consistency to turn these things into a natural stroke. One 100, 50 or 25 at a time🙌🏼🙌🏼 Ironman distance can seem overwhelming but I have to believe that I CAN do it and these changes will help me get there efficiently. . I’ve been listening to @davidgoggins book #canthurtme in the car. On the way home from the natatorium today, he describes a story during Navy Seal training that occurred in the pool. It was a pivotal moment in his life, with his approach to dealing with hard things...he said: . “If you put doubt in the pilot’s seat, defeat is guaranteed — Don’t let doubt in the cockpit” . Such a good lesson 👊🏼 . What a day. 🥴 . I’m going to focus on some wins even though I’ve lost much steam since my workouts. 😖 . I stopped here after my #fartlek run so I could text my coach and teammates and share my excitement. . You guys...I’ve never considered myself a runner. I’ve only JUST started accepted calling myself an athlete. Running is not my fave. Why? Cause I suck at it. It hurts & at times, I feel like I’m dragging my ass around the road to get the time/distance checked off. It’s getting better though. . Enter having a coach. For the 1st time in my LIFE. 😳 And, it’s not like I have bombarded her with questions. She is just observant AF and in tune with what you need. She’ll drop some suggestions here & there, post some tips & like the eager new student, I gobble it up and apply, apply, apply. . Yesterday, I used a tip on the bike that she shared immediately, I felt a difference in my legs. Muscles were engaging that normally lay dormant which signaled to me a weakness. . Today, my lightbulb went off on the run. 6, 3’ intervals at a faster pace Thresholds than Ive ever done. I was a little nervous but also excited to push it. And sure enough, I tried putting a few things together in my running stride from those tips and even my experience on the bike aaaaand clickety click boom💥. . Giddy is an understatement. 😃 So many things clicked & as a result, my pace came easier, my heart rate LOWER 😳 and my 🍑 was on fire by the time I came home. (New muscles firing, engaging and working) . It was particularly tough to get through the @bettydesigns FitLab workout with @stefcorgel but it was way fun. Swipe for a screenshot from one of the moves. Also got my 50 pushups in while at the park. . It was a great training day! 🙌🏼 . I wasn’t going to share tonight because, let’s be honest, the country is a total 💩 show right now. However, if this distraction (if you’ve read this far) can motivate you or inspire you to start something new or set a lofty goal then it’ll be worth it. ☺️ . Easy Run and Threshold Interval Bike today with a side of 50 pushups (10, kinda extra - swipe😉) . My smart trainer still gave me some trouble but I managed to still get it down. Easy run, as I’ve mentioned before, is likely my hardest. Focusing on keeping the hard rate down but also compelled to stay within pace creates quite an internal battle on the run. I took it easy on the pace, but not enough. However, the heart rate hovered lowered than usual so I’ll call it a win in the “progress” column. #silverlining #foreveranoptimist 😉 . Day 2 -Brick workout Probably the last “short one” as I’m at the end of assessment week. It al starts ramping up after Sunday’s run. 👊🏼 🚴🏻‍♀️Zwift ride with my Betty sisters - I think I need to recalibrate my trainer because the power was all over the board 🎢 I still managed a 97 TriDot score so the pain and agony atleast hit the training right. 😂 🏃🏻‍♀️off the bike felt awesome and my paces have been adjustment for assessment. So now, I’m hitting the pace right but for endurance, the heart rate is still 🚀😕. That’s going to take some work. 🤷🏻‍♀️ . Also started a little late on the #pushupchallenge but it’s something I really need. My upper body strength is lacking and when I did this last year, I got crazy strong. Day 1, 2021 . Swim assessment with @coachjotridot & @s_cranson - a hard feat with only a couple of hours of sleep, a 6am wake up call & wind chill temps at close to freezing on a outdoor swim 🥶 . But, meeting these ladies and being accountable makes it a nonnegotiable for me. It wasn’t the most improved of swims but enough to increase my intensities in upcoming training days. . 2500M ☑️ and an awesome time with my teammates and coach/friends. Enjoyed laughing about how hard it was to get out of the pool and freezing together in a frenzy to change and warm up. 😂 . 5KTime trial day 2 out of 3 assessments for the week ✔️ . . Running, ugh, running. Not my strong suit but I keep lacing up and showin’ up. . I dreaded this one. And every other 5k all out effort for that matter. I stretched, worked on tight muscles beforehand and did some warm drills (good ideas but also procrastinating😬) . It started pouring a couple minutes into my warm up and I briefly gave myself an opportunity for an excuse if I bombed it. (Vulnerable thought here) . But alas, Mother Nature wasn’t going to let me off the hook. As quick as the rain started, it stopped. 🥴 And I had no choice but to crank my wheels and push through...breaking my efforts into small bite size increments that were more palatable for my weak mental game. . Since working with @coachjotridot I feel like a sponge absorbing every bit of wisdom she drops on me. I kept thinking small steps, fast steps. And my turn over and cadence, though it’s felt weird at first, just clicks in making me move faster. . Wouldn’t you know it, I clocked my fastest 5K EVER. (Perfectly middle packer type pace, don’t called Guiness or anything 😂, but awesome for ME). . It was a damn awesome feeling to see the needle move in a place where I generally feel like I suck. . Looking ahead to the New Year? Or counting down the workouts of 2020?Or maybe they both coincide with the new @bettydesigns drop?? 🤔🤩 . Monday 3000M 🏊🏼‍♀️ ☑️ . I was underfueled and undercaffeinated but I pushed the mental strength gears that I so badly need to sharpen. Went over my workout by 1000M to work on my stroke, pull, position, yadda yadda. Used fins for the first time towards the end and whoa! 😲 . I kept repeating to myself “don’t quit when you’re tired, quit when you’re done” over and over and I swear it propelled me to finish stronger than I began. . First assessment on the bike tomorrow. I’m kinda nervous! But I’ll be using that mantra again as FOR SURE! . Christmas week workout wrap up. Let’s put a big bow on it. 🎀 . Coach said not to stress getting all the workouts in this week and I’m really pleased that I only missed 1 swim that was scheduled on Christmas Day. . My week started with meeting @coachjotridot at the pool for a swim Monday and again, my pace came in much faster than it has been ALWAYS. . 2 @gozwift n Zoom rides with the girls including one on Christmas Eve to kick off the holiday and @dirito21 birthday on Saturday. Strength/stretch and a few runs throughout the week with milder (warm) temps and one in a torrential downpour. . This week is assessment week so though I’m sure it’s going to be hardAF, I am also looking forward to seeing how it shapes my #IMTX training weeks ahead. . Time to WORK 💪🏼💪🏼 . It is okay to be brave and afraid at the same time. - Brené Brown . With Ironman Texas months away, this hit home for me. . Triathlon has been a solitary sport for me and as an introvert, that was ok. . Until, I met, connected and bonded with my teammates who are now my friends, coach, sisters. I don’t feel alone climbing this #roadtoironman mountain. And for those days when afraid outweighs the brave, I know I can draw on my connections to even things out. ❤️ . Another Brené quote to close out my point (cause I love her) regarding Connection: “The energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship” .
