One thing I don’t see talked about enough in the trans community is the feeling of trans guilt.

It’s that feeling of knowing who you are and being happy with how you identify, but deep down you start to feel bad for other people. You think to yourself, “I know my friends are supportive, but wouldn’t it be so much easier for them if I wasn’t trans?” Or, “My parents seem so confused about my transitioning, why am I going out of my way to hurt them like this?” It’s this ongoing thought that if you weren’t trans, it would save people from so much work, puzzlement, and maybe even hatred. That being a trans person is simply a burden.

It’s a mindset someone can get from high expectations, and I feel it happens to a lot of people in the trans community like myself. If you feel like this, please know that you are not alone, and that you and your feelings are valid. Never let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t be who you are, even if it’s yourself. <3

I saw in the Spider-Man/Deadpool (2018) run that Wade apparently looks the way he does because he hates himself & feels he should look repulsive but when he became a full hero with Peter & cold turkey on killing he looked normal for a while. (Before killing again for Peter's sake & turning disfigured again). 2 questions.

What's your thoughts on that concept & does the same go for your Wade? Would he heal physically if he started to love himself?

i kind of hated that arc sooo much. so much, that i even made a response comic to it when the issue came out. i was so mad.

i really genuinely thought that what they might've went for was that it actually wasn't true, and wade was healed for some other reason actually, and peter was just being the same ableist sack of shit that joe kelly consistently writes him as (i HATE you joe kelly.)

whenever kelly writes spider-man and deadpool, spider-man is consistently the most insensitive, ableist jackass i've ever seen. so that's what i thought was happening. but no. apparently it is the case that the problem simply is that wade hates himself so much and he could've healed all along if he was just a good boy.

in 9319, wade has good days and bad days. sometimes he does love himself. and when he loves himself, yeah, his scars don't look as painful and he takes good care of himself. he actually has a solid self-care routine that he loves to stick to when he's in his good mental health days. so he wears the comfy jim jams and he showers and uses the creams and looks so good. those are his good days.

really, wade does love himself. he hates himself too. i feel like the "well maybe you should learn to love yourself" is such a meaningless line of thought. like you can just flip a switch and turn off all your self-doubt? no. that doubt is there for a reason, and it'll always be there. you won't extinguish that forever. it's part of being human, and if you didn't have it, you wouldn't be human.

humans have good days and bad days. nothing is linear.

and wade has bad days. bad days where he's struggling with self-worth, struggling with unpleasant memories, struggling with the control he has over his impulses and destructive habits. and yeah, it reflects on his physical state because he finds it more difficult to maintain those good habits he's been nurturing. he sleeps in his mask, he doesn't wash, the scars redden.

so in a similar way to 616 yeah, 9319 wade's physical state is tied to his emotional state - but it's not linear, and it's not some fairytale where he can beauty-and-the-beast himself back into a state of hollywood gorgeousness. he has good days and bad days. and i hope that he can have more good days, when the future comes.
