what's the hype about diamonds being sooo tough like i could eat them and they'd grind down just fine. would you eat gemstones, mr clay?

First off no, don't eat any gemstones.

Secondly I get yer jokin' but since ya already went there, diamonds are the hardest things out there. Diamonds can't be cut by nothin' save for other diamonds, an' they can't even be dissolved by acid. So even if ya ate one (which again, please don't), it'd come out fine.

Which is why I'd prefer 'em in tools an' on a more practical use over jus' stickin' em 'n a necklace doin' shit all fer nothin'.

Everything else is SO much prettier too.
