Happy New Year, everyone!

Writing my end of the year break down early this year. I haven't even started on the drawing yet, at the time I'm writing this. (Future Tuesday speaking—I was working on a picture of my 'sona holding up a peace sign, but I made a backup drawing in case I didn't finish that one in time. You'll already know whether I succeeded or not when this is posted.)

This year didn't go as expected. Didn't find a job or start my webcomic like I wanted to. However, I have made some progress on my webcomics (yes, plural) and my parents have been supportive of me as I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life now.

Should also mention the new friends I've made and the old friendships I've been trying harder to maintain. I don't think I've been perfect in this regard, but I feel like I have improved from last year.

I should also mention that A TON of my OCs have been completely revamped, something I hadn't planned on doing but desperately needed to. I love the new designs and that alone is enough for me to feel like the year was productive. I've been really pushing my shape language more, which makes my characters more distinct and fun to draw.

This year has made me rethink the way I've been drawing in general. A lot of it was behind the scenes (which is why I didn't post a whole lot rip), but it should show through the art I post in the new year...including a webcomic I am determined to get out in 2024. I have several scripts in progress and started on thumbnails, so I'm hoping it'll be out soon. Expect more stylized artwork. I also want to draw more backgrounds, though I'll see how that turns out.

If my lineart looks a little different, it's because I made a custom ink brush! I put some of my new watercolor brushes to work for the background and coloring too. The fonts I used are also handmade. (I did some editing work with Picsart though, that's where the effects come from). This year's drawing is very much ME (including my long overdue decision to finally retire Cali from the New Year's drawings) and I think that's the energy I want for this year—focusing more on my wellbeing and doing the things I want to do. There'll be some bumps in the road, I'm sure, but it's just another year!

In light of the new hbomberguy video, I kinda wanted to share a personal story of mine relating to iilluminaughtii.

A couple of years ago, iilluminaughtii uploaded this video about Butch Hartman.

I wasn't aware that my article (published July 23rd, 2020) was featured in her video until my partner watched this video a year later and informed me. I have no recollection of giving iilluminaughtii permission to use my article, nor can I find any evidence of me giving permission. I thanked her at the time (from my art Twitter and the video itself), believing she was just trying to give me a platform. You can see she gave me credit in the video.

However, I still want to speak up because I feel like I've been used as a prop for iilluminaughtii to act as an ally to autistic people.

This feels kinda scummy considering what happened with the Sad Milk drama earlier this year.

In The Click's video recounting the drama, there is a screenshot of a Discord message claiming iilluminaughtii uses the r-slur in private.

I can't really verify this claim, but given her history of mean girl behavior and reputation for being two-faced (I remember her colluding with Kimbyrleigha several years back to harass anti-MLM creator Cruel World Happy Mind, it was a huge deal in the anti-MLM community at the time), I can't help but feel like her support of autistic people is performative and I feel gross knowing she used my article to prop herself up.

I didn't receive a significant uptick of traffic following the iilluminaughtii video, nor has anyone approached me saying that they found me through her. I'm a smaller creator—my Butch Hartman article mainly got views because PieGuyRulz, a somewhat popular YouTuber who made a lot of videos on Butch Hartman, was kind enough to retweet my article when it was first posted. Even then, I don't really have an audience or a platform. Not on the scale of iilluminaughtii, at least.

I've mentioned it to friends on discord and left a few comments on videos relating to iilluminaughtii (including the new hbomberguy video and The Click's video). Part of me feels like I'm being a whiney baby and I'm making a huge deal out of nothing. I'm also partially afraid of being wrapped up in drama. However, it doesn't sit right with me as a devoted autistic rights activist and I want to be heard, even if this is small on the grand scheme of things.
