i know i have my sims tumblr but i commissioned @meghewlett for these link and zelda hairs for the sims 4 and look how lovely they turned out!!!!

If you’ve been browsing @maxismatchccworld​ on Tumblr, you might be familiar with @aloeislandsims​. He’s known for his CC, but if you have thought of commissioning him for CC, please reconsider it after reading this post. I want to raise this issue because he is on the MaxisMatchCCWorld’s directory for commissions and I don’t want anyone else to experience the same thing. It has been a week since his promised deadline, and I have not heard from him at all. He has not been responding to my messages either. In short, he took payment from me three months ago, and has not delivered my commission. The lack of communication and transparency on his part is frankly worrying and disappointing, and his behaviour is unacceptable. Screenshots and full details under cut. 

I commissioned Aloeislands three custom hairs on 25 June 2021. Each commission takes 3-4 weeks as stated on his page, so I expected it to be done in 3 months, He told me he would send me pictures of my commission as he finishes up. As of October 7 2021, I have only seen WIP of 2/3 of the hairs I have commissioned. At the beginning, Aloeislands would send me WIP’s of my commission and let me feedback on desired changes. After approving the first 2 WIP’s, I did not hear for him for about 1 month and a half. On 15 August 2021, I checked in with him. He apologised for the lack of updates as he was burnt out, but was slowly chipping away at the commission. I told him to take care and to let me know if he ever needed more time.

Around 4 weeks later on 8 September, I checked in with hjm again. This time, he ‘guarantees’ that the commission will be done by the end of the month. At this point, I am a little miffed that I have to be the one who keeps reaching out, because it is basic courtesy for the commissioner to update their customer. However, I let it slide, as he mentioned previously that he was burnt out.

I waited a little longer after September ended due to our different timezones. On 3 October 2021, 3 days after his ‘guaranteed’ deadline, I messaged Aloeislands again to ask if there has been any progress on my commission. Because of our previous exchanges and his lack of communication, I assumed that he was not done with the commission. Without a response, I messaged him again 2 days later on 5 October 2021. It has been 3 days since, and I have not received a response. I have since opened a PayPal dispute charge, as it is already the end of the week and I have received no response. At this point, I do not expect one from him.

I understand that he might not be online every day on Tumblr, but it is his responsibility as the commissioned artist to reach out to his commissioner and communicate with them when he is unable to deliver. He was the one who ‘guaranteed’ that it would be done by the end of September; I did not initiate this deadline. When September ended, he should have messaged me to update me on the commission, not the other way around. If he had asked for an extension, I would have given it to him, as I had stated in previous messages. I am no stranger to commission burnout as I have been doing them for years, and I think the least you could do if you’re unable to deliver is to contact your commissioner and do a partial refund. This commission was worth nearly 200USD, and to think I might have been scammed out of it when a good fraction of it was in tips that I chose to give is really sad.

If you ever commission someone, remember to ask for an invoice to protect yourself should you ever need to open a PayPal dispute.

This blog is kinda amazing, I had so much fun scrolling through it. I haven't played sims before, so I totally didn't know people did these kinds of things for fandom! I really like it!
