syponsis.  scaramouche and you were best friends for who knows how long, your platonic love for him becomes romantic as you spend more time with him. one day, you find scaramouche suddenly making plans with new friends of his and you’re not against it! but it takes a turn when some of his friends try to hook him up with someone. afraid to ruin your friendship with him, you don’t tell him and you distance yourself from him.

as you sobbed endlessly, trying to wipe your tears even if you knew damn well more would just fall.

you looked at your state in the mirror. hair covering your face, tears sobbing and your body on the edge of falling down. what a horrible sight you thought.

as you started to calm yourself down, you could here voices coming to the washroom, you quickly fled to one of the cubicles, putting your hand to shush your hiccups.

did you hear one of our classmates a while ago? they were shouting at scaramouche! imagine having the audacity to do such a thing..

doesn't scaramouche have a girlfriend already?

he has a what now? their words were muted as you started to quietly sob again. though, you could hear the door shut. making you exit the cubicle.

you looked at yourself in the mirror once more. you wouldn't care, right? no. you've had a crush on scaramouche for who knows how long and now he suddenly has a girlfriend.?

you washed your face, trying to make sure no signs of the fact you cried was shown.

closing the door to the bathroom, your eyes met with another friend of yours, columbia.

"ah, y/n.. um, are you okay? you looked like you just cr-" "oh it's nothing! i.. gotta get to class now. see ya!" you ran to your classroom once more. trying to forget everything that had happened in the past hour.

"class dismissed." your teacher spoke out loud as she left the classroom, leaving everyone packing up their backpacks since the next period was everyone's last.

while everyone was packing, you were just sitting in your chair. you couldn't even forget the events that happened in the bathroom.. and before that.

you would be lying if you were to say that you weren't jealous of whoever was scaramouche's girlfriend.

the worst part now was you knew he wasn't going to talk to you after what happened. both of you needed space anyway.

but was this really a good thing.?

it had to be. taking a break from the one you loved the most. taking a break from your childhood friend since diapers. taking a break from someone.. from someone who shattered your heart into pieces.

you wanted to cry again but it felt like you couldn't. as if all the tears you used were all used.

deciding to do the better option, you packed your backpack and went out of the classroom. not giving your friends a single glance. you could feel them staring at you but the feeling brushed down after a few seconds of walking.

once you reached the gate of your school, you noticed scaramouche and his friends talking. you could pretty much hear them since one of them was insanely loud.

"oh c'mon scaramouche! live a little! just hook up with this girl.."

their words were muted as you started to feel a heartbreaking feeling in your chest again.

maybe the rumors were true, of scaramouche and his new 'girlfriend'. maybe you just weren't meant for each other. he looks so much happier with his new friends. for sake, he doesn't even look like the scaramouche you knew.

you just decided to run home. not noticing scaramouche's eyes glancing at you.

once you arrived at the door of your home. you noticed scaramouche's mother, ei, at the door. talking to someone on the phone. you decided to go to her and have a chat.

"yes, indeed.. it is pretty tragic. i mean- hold on a second miko." ei spoke as she looked at you with surprised eyes. "ah! y/n, great to see you again. is it alright if i just finish this call?" you nodded at her response and just sat down at one of the chairs displayed outside.

you could hear ei saying her goodbyes to whoever she was talking to and inviting you inside. it also seemed that she wanted to have a chat..

she closed the door as you removed your shoes and placed your backpack on the floor. ei asked you to sit down on the table, and you did.

"y/n.. i've been wanting to talk to you about this." ei said in a concerning voice. "kuni- uhm, scaramouche. has he been different to you in any ways these past few days?"

you looked at her and slowly nodded. "yes, he has actually. he doesn't really keep his promises anymore.. nor does he schedule any of our weekly hangouts."

ei sighed as she put her hands on her lap. "he has new friends and i am proud of him for that but i have been noticing you both haven't been interacting as much as usual. did something happen?" she asked in a concerning voice.

"well.. yes. we had a fight earlier at school and i pretty much cried by whole heart out." you spoke as you felt your eyes getting blurry and wanting to cry again.

"is it alright if you tell me? i completely understand if you don't want to." ei said as she patted your shoulder.

you hesitated at first but took all the details from earlier and told her to ei. it somewhat felt like ei was such a good mother figure, you couldn't figure out why she and scaramouche didn't get along as much when he was younger.

"i knew that this day would somewhat come.." ei mumbled as she scratched her head.

"what do you mean mrs. raiden?" you looked at her with curious eyes.

"well, when both you and scaramouche met, i had a feeling that he would snap at you at one point. in this case, it was today." she sighed before continuing. "though, no need to worry. it is best for you both to take a break from each other. if you were to just want to interact with him more, it may make him snap at you again."

you understood her every detail. maybe taking a break was the best option. you bid goodbye to ei as you got your backpack and went to your home.

you laid down on the couch, looking at the picture frame of you and scaramouche as kids. you couldn't help but notice the small droplets of tears staining the frame.

maybe sometimes there is no why. it just happens suddenly.
