Ya guys remember how Tails canonically sees Sonic as a star?

Imagine little baby Tails gets separated from him and ends up lost in the forest.

He’s scared and confused, and he wants his brother.

It’s midnight by now, and Taiks looks at the sky, there are so many Sonics up there.

He tries to fly up, higher and higher to reach for his brother.

He’s so tired, he flies high and falls, he tries again, and Sonic doesn’t come down for him.

It doesn’t matter how high he tries to go, he can’t reach “Sonic”.

shadow and silver grew up in like. polar opposite environments. the coldness of space vs the goodamn fire apocalypse. structed routine vs total chaos in a ruined society. being told you were created for a specific purpose, made to be a specific thing, vs being born a nobody who decided to take action. all shadow could see on the ark was endless space and all silver could see in the ruined future was ash and smoke blocking out the sky

so because it’s midnight and my brain decides that the perfect time to come up with things, i’m fixating on tails going completely radio silent during his solo adventures just because the idea of sonic having a conversation with amy about what tails is probably going through would be kinda cool idk

anyway here’s a “little” thing i wrote for that conversation:

“tails is a hero, he’s sonic the hedgehog’s partner and little brother. hes a young genius who’s mechanical skills go unmatched by almost everyone. hes the one who stopped eggman from blowing up station square, who’s helped save the world countless times. that’s tails…but i think miles is still that scared little kid who was left behind on west side island all those years ago.

tails grew up surrounded by friends, but miles was alone and i think in being alone again, he’s trying to figure out who miles is. he could be the same person, or he could be someone completely different…

all i know is that we need to be here to welcome miles home just as much as we welcome tails.”

anyway that’s enough thinking, back to our regularly scheduled bullshit

Parents name their kids after things they love, people they love, words that inspire them, titles that mean something other than the obvious. They name them after their favorite things.

Sometimes their siblings name them, whether it be in an attempt to create early bonds between them, or simply because the kid themself is a gift to their sibiling, and even if sometimes the older one didn’t ask for a sibling, they usually become their favorite person ever.

Sometimes the kid has something special in them, something so singular and unique that it’s impossible not to name them after it, even if they had another name asigned already.

Kids are named after their family’s favorite things, but the moment they are born they become the favorite thing, a blessing, a gift, so how could they not name them after what they are?

Sonic named Tails. He named him after something that he found cool about him, something special and unique about him, something that made him stand up between everyone else, something that Miles himself didn’t love, for Miles wasn’t loved either.

Miles was loved from the day he met Sonic. Tails has been loved his whole life.

Tails viewing Sonic as a star kinda puts Reach For The Stars in another perspective, and not just because Tails indirectly namedrops it: "I'm gonna reach for the stars, although they look pretty far" = "I'll always be there for my brother no matter the distance"

It’s pretty clear that it was intentional, and don’t forget Tails’ own song “Believe in myself”!
