Yesterday was the 12 of December, when the Virgin of Guadalupe, who is also known as Tonantzin, is given honor throughout Mesoamerica.
Because the Spanish did not allow our Indigenous ancestors to worship out ancient Teteo (or “gods”) Tonantzin became one way by which we could continue to honor our ancient traditions, while seeming to conform to Spanish law. Today, for modern Nahua in Veracruz, Tonantzin in Her guise as the Virgin of Guadalupe is the mother of Tonatiuh, the Sun, for He is born and emerges from Her every day in the east. She gave birth to the Teteo who rule the four directions, and is one of the most import Teteo which guides their lives. For my own ancestors, the Wixa, She is an eagle which gave birth to the world and which holds the world in Her talons. When my calpulli Tlahuiolin and Conformidad Ollinkan dance for Tonantzin at Her shrine, we are not honoring a catholic Virgin, but Our Mother the Earth, the Earth which gave birth to us, which nurtures and feeds us, and which shall consume us in the end. And we honor the traditions of our grandfathers and grandmothers, not only those who lived 500 years ago, but also the those who lived and struggled since the conquest, and who found in her an image of our mother and our traditions.
Pronouns in nahuatl can be a bit difficult to keep track because they’re similar with each other, here’s a little breakdown for your (and my!) convenience
Personal pronouns
1st person singular: I or Me, is nehuatl (ne)
2nd p. sing: You is tehuatl (te)
3rd p. sing: He, She, It, are yehuatl (ye)
1st person plural: We or us, is tehuantin (tehuan)
2nd p pl: You (as in y’all) is amehuantin (amehuan)
3rd p pl: They is yehuantin (yehuan)
Example: Nehuatl temachtiani / I [am] a teacher.
Possessive pronouns
1st p sing: My is no-
2nd p sing: Your is mo-
3rd p sing: His or Hers, is i-
1st p pl: Our is to-
2nd p pl: Your (y’all’s) is amo-
3rd p pl: Their is i- or in-
Ex: the word tonantzin comes from to-nantli-tzin, Our Mother + the reverential particle -tzin, and she is the goddess Coatlicue
Verbal pronouns (id est, verbal conjugation)

2nd p sing: Ti-cuica, you sing
3rd p sing: Cuica, He or she sings (you add nothing)
