Ever seen a decently large black and yellow spider in a huge web, sometimes with a white zigzag pattern in the middle? This is called a yellow garden spider. They commonly get confused with the golden silk orb weaver, but are very different. The coloration is different on the body, as are the webs. The longleaf pine is a native to the southeast and is perfectly adapted to fire. The longleaf pines start as a little tuft of grass that is susceptible to brown spot fungus, but when the fire comes through, it will burn it off and any brush that could block sunlight.
