Watcher google drive

i think the title is pretty self explanitory

Only ghost files on it atm but Mystery Files and Puppet History are next. Watcher has back pedalled on deleteing all their free content to lock it behind a pay wall but y'know what? maybe I just dont want to give them ad revenue anymore, which is evil but screw them. Also they may still back pedal on their back pedalling, which is to many pedals anyways.

This is.. wow. Wasn’t Steven JUST talking about buying a second Tesla on the podcast? And the private suite he gets every time he's at an airport? If Watcher is actually struggling to make ends meet, they could start by paying their CEO less, or laying off some of their employees- seriously, 12 people to film a minecraft lets play is crazy, not to mention the ridiculousness of renting out an office space near Hollywood as youtubers and acting surprised when it's too expensive.

That, and the fact that all three of them thought $6 a month to watch Youtube videos is easily affordable for everyone tells me that at least Steven, Ryan, and Shane are making a decent amount of money. Timing this right when the “watch Steven eat food you could never afford” show is announced is also a really bad look. Like, who approved this?

The night before Watcher's big Announcement

4/18/24; no spoilers here. Just a bit of reflection.

12 years ago, I started blogging on this Tumblr page to capture my feelings and where I was at. Even though so much has changed, it also feels like nothing at all has changed. Back then, I was a kid from Ohio just trying to make a living off YouTube. At the time, I didn't even know how to operate a camera, how to act on screen, or even how to edit a video. But I knew that I loved the process of making videos, and that propelled me day by day.

When I started making YouTube videos in 2012, I gave myself 4 years before I'd call it quits. 4 years to make a living or I'd reconsider and find a different career path. Looking back, I didn't realize how close I cut it. But it really wasn't until 3 years in that I made a hit. And I thank God every day because it was some combination of luck, hard work. and divine intervention that somehow someway led me to work at BuzzFeed, create Worth It, meet Ryan and Shane, launch Watcher, and well.. the rest is history.

That being said, I'm at a crossroads here again. Tomorrow is kind of a big day for me and our team. It's nerve-wracking to take risks at this stage of my career and company's life. Who knows where things will go? Will we succeed or will we fall flat on our face? I truly don't know. But no matter what, I just wanted to take this time to dwell in a place of gratitude. Thank you to all the people who have supported my career, team Watcher, and the shows we make. I can't believe this is my job that I get to wake up and do every single day. Speaking of job, thank you to my team at Watcher, I love you and am so grateful for all of you. I can't believe how hard you all work day in and day out to make the beautiful videos and shows that we do. Thank you to my wife, thank you to my family and friends, thank you to our investors/mentors, and thank you to God.

For some reason this journal entry came out like an acceptance speech at the People's Choice Awards. Whoops. I honestly don't even know what I wanted to get across when I started writing but that's it for now. Tomorrow's a big day and I don't know what this means for myself or for Watcher's. But what I do know is that it's been the best five years of my life building Watcher and I thank God every day for that.

I'm Algonquin/Ojibwe and this is a spirit that comes from our teachings.

As a young child, the elders taught me to never even SPEAK its name, to not even sing its songs. When we sang a song about it during drumming group one year, we all got in trouble.

You do not spell the word or speak the word.

It's NOT a "cryptid" or a "spooky story" for white people to appropriate.

Its bearly spoken about in our own communities, and even then, only very carefully.

Again, not because its "creepy" but because its respected and something in our traditions that is not played around with; so its certainly not for non-ojibwe/algonquin people to speak about whatsoever. Period.

Just found out town houses are considered nice in other parts of the US which is crazy to me.

Not because they aren’t big enough or something, but because where I grew up they were, for some reason, in the most dangerous part of my town.

Like I went to sleepovers there as a kid and would hear gun shots which is great because we were in the suburbs and our town had no police station.

I get that gun fire is normal in some cities but you need to understand that we were forty minutes OUTSIDE the city and went to the rich kid school in the next town over so the absolute disconnect between students was crazy.

So learning that a lot of town houses are in nice neighborhoods is actually breaking my brain right now lol. But obviously the town is just unsafe in general (how are there gangs when we have less than a thousand people LMAO) so idk why I'm surprised.
