I have been on my own roller coaster ride over the last several years. Last year was when life started to become more “clear” for me, for now. Life is life. One opportunity to be committed to it. I understand that we’re social creatures that may seek approval, validation, and want to be liked, but in the process, ask yourself- “Am I living my truest life? “Am I fulfilling my potential?” “Am I doing what I love?” “Am I fully expressing myself?” If any of these are answered with “no,” it may be time for changes (perspectives, habits, choices, relationships, etc). Being a group exercise instructor these past four years out of the five years here has been an integral part of the VCU experience. It has been one of the best, spontaneous decisions that I’ve ever made. When I came here, I had no intention of being an instructor, especially a Zumba or dance instructor. The beginning of sophomore year, I saw that there was a free prep course for being an instructor, so I thought “why not? It’s free, exercise is my love, and I enjoy motivating.” Took the course and chose Zumba as the format I wanted to teach. I had no Zumba or dance experience, but I heard that we get to shake our hips and I love shaking my hips... This was my first job and this team has been one of a kind, composed of true individuals that we can learn a lot from. You all inspire me in your own ways.
