Heya - thought i’d send this here to see if anyone has any good interpretations. What’s everyone’s read on this line or even just on the song Peter? I’m so stumped here…

“The goddess of timing

Notes for context: “It is believed that Kali represents the force of time, carrying both destruction and creation of life and the universe.”

In the context of the song, it’s three person narrative - Kali/Peter/Wendy I think? Or is it just a name because “swirled you into all my poems”? Hahaha anyway i’m confused- thoughts guys?

I’ve gotten to Rohan Proper and I KNEW it was coming but I didn’t know exactly when or how and just. Wow okay the fact that it’s Aragorn who knows The Wanderer, and translates it… oh my fucking god. Of course Aragorn knows this one, the way he knows Beren & Luthien. Of course Aragorn on-the-spot translates The Wanderer. Beautifully. With some poetic license, but it is p much one century on and no one cares, everyone loves “Where now the horse and the rider”.

(I suspect THIS piece of early medieval lore is more widely known, but if you’ve never read this actual facts real life poem The Wanderer (aka the Lament of Rohirrim) in full — Aragorn just quotes an extract near the end — I highly recommend it. Literally everyone loves The Wanderer. Translating Beowulf sucks and I hate it. Translating The Wanderer feels like reading Lord of the Rings. And not just because it is… in LOTR).

Rutgers translations are always a little more fun and lively; Roy Liuzza’s translation is maybe my top choice. And of course the original Old English is great stuff. I mean, “Swa cweath eardstappa”?? Aragornnnn

Also FYI the reason I knew it was coming is because my Old English teacher’s great joy was assigning her class this section of The Wanderer for a warm-up translation at the start of class, and then and sit back watching as the realization tore violently through the ranks.

i am a rep era kaylor so this is a secondhand recounting, but what i have heard recounted to me over the years is the idea that taylor had rented out a ranch in wyoming for karlie’s birthday (weekend?) that year and that it would have been a very romantic gesture. i believe the idea is that taylor proposed to her, not that they had a wedding.

i think the only facts (so to speak) is that karlie posted this on instagram, a picture of her fly fishing in wyoming.

if you scroll back far enough on insta you can see the post.

can og’s please chime in with the extra context as to what led to the story and why it felt like a proposal may have happened because i always forget those details. also lmk if have some aspects missing or different.

i think it’s also possible that it wasn’t a classic wedding proposal per se insomuch as a promise or reaffirmation of their commitment to one another, at a key juncture in their relationship. but that’s just to say that i don’t think the nature of it is incredibly integral to understanding kaylor lore. other stuff doesn’t rely on this story having gone a certain way.

one thing i love about down bad is it uses all this alien abduction imagery so effectively and humorously, while also being poignant. the line “encounters closer and closer” also gets me because it comes from the sci-fi title close encounters of the third kind while also describing early kaylor so effectively, i think

here i think this is just meant to evoke the feeling of being so entirely on for it all to suddenly have to disappear. this isn’t meant as an analysis but it sort of gives hints of post-kissgate to me. the vogue cover releasing so soon after kissgate evoking the “lost twin” line, crying at the gym also evokes images from that timeframe where we got candids of them going to and from the gym together, and that having to stop. so it’s in the vein of a hits different, or even a death by a thousand cuts. the trying to find a part of her life karlie didn’t take up, the signs being so obvious, and then all at once having to close up shop on things suddenly.

it’s interesting to think about how it might all be presented going forward. and down bad adds to this chapter of their story in an interesting way, i think
