In Which Abernathy Returns to the Wilds
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Anna Gru
Excerpt:
He thought about the person he’d brought back as he passed the asylum. He didn’t stop there, as tempting as it was. No. Better for the both of us not to see them again. Especially so soon after leaving them. He reminded himself, steeling his will as he walked on past. Can’t get attached. Can’t let them get attached. What is going to happen to me is not something to wantonly subject anyone else to, and I’m not going to let that happen.

In Which Alena Explains
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Astley Hall
Excerpt:
“That’s where people like Abernathy come in- hunters, to prevent things from getting worse until someone figures out what’s happening and how to stop it. It’s a necessary evil, sending people out into the wilds and the ruins to deal with this… though, I suppose he sees it a bit differently. But that isn’t my story to tell,” She summarized, leaving out a great deal of the nuance of the situation.

In Which Abernathy Goes Home
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Rat
Excerpt: At realizing that Abernathy was back, she ran at the bars, clambering up and sticking her nose between them. It was little gray rat, clearly excited to see him again. “Oh, looks like Lana’s been giving you treats, huh? The woman’s an angel, I’ll have to get her something nice when I get paid…”

In Which Emmett has Questions
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: N/a
Excerpt:
“You really don’t know anything, do you? Well, I can try to give you some answers as I show you around. Come on,” She showed them out into the hall again. “This is a sanctuary for those seeking refuge- like you- so he left you here so you had somewhere safe until you’ve found somewhere else to stay. I couldn’t tell you for certain where he’s going, but he’s likely tracking the creature that destroyed your village. He rarely stays in one place for long,”

OKAY BUT EVERYONE HERE SHOULD DO THIS TOO ITS TOO FUN.
Examples…
Agatha: 50 Kylo Rens for all the angst and rage and black outfits.
Ditto: Wears a lot of black. ½ Kylo Rens.
Eivindr: Comes off as 6 Kylo Rens in an Angst Suit but is actually just a trickertreating child in a costume who got scared and doesn’t want to be here anymore.

In Which Abernathy Leaves
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Path
Excerpt:  He ignored the eyes on him as he passed- he was used to them, by now, but that didn’t make them any more pleasant. It wasn’t as if he could blame them for the way they looked at him; He knew as well as they did what would happen to him eventually.

In Which Emmett Stays
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Building
Excerpt:
“Lana! I’ve got someone here who could use a room,” Abernathy was apparently a regular here, as well, cutting right to the chase and calling to a woman on the other side of the room.
“It’s nice to see you, too, Abernathy,” She replied, looking up from her work and coming over. “Oh- Well, you’re an interesting fellow, aren’t you?” She said, unabashedly staring at Emmett. “I quite like your hair, by the way. But! A room,”
My hair? Emmett hadn’t been thinking about it, but looking at it now, in the light, it was quite clearly a myriad of light shades- though it was still covered in ash and soot, they liked it, too.

In Which Something Lurks
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Forest
Excerpt: It sat in the shade, simply waiting and watching. It hungered- what for, it wasn’t quite sure, but it wouldn’t turn down anything that seemed edible. And so, it waited.
Prev: In Which Everything Burns
Next: –
A beautiful morning was dawning outside of the Bullmar outpost, the sun glittering on the fresh leaves of the trees growing densely outside of its walls. The forest was full of the sound of birdsong- except for a small clearing, which had gone oddly silent.
Something waited there, observing just how bright it was and moving into the shadows as it felt the cool of the early morning beginning to dissipate. It sat in the shade, simply waiting and watching. It hungered- what for, it wasn’t quite sure, but it wouldn’t turn down anything that seemed edible. And so, it waited.

In Which Everything Burns
Tumblr media
Content Warnings: No explicit content
Header Image Source: Eruption of Sinabung
Excerpt: “Um… What’s your name?” The near silence of the man put them on edge, though they couldn’t figure out why.
“It isn’t important,” He replied brusquely, half lifting them over a rut in the narrow path through the woods.
They wanted to ask him why he had said that- what possibly could have molded a person who didn’t care about their own name. But they couldn’t find the words, and so settled on something they felt capable of articulating.
“It is to me,”

Their first moments were filled with the sounds of catastrophe. Their very small world was coming to pieces, engulfed in flame, the sound of burning wood roaring in their ears.
It’s so bright… They thought, the fire dazzling their eyes. They reached out to touch it, shouting when it burned, something they hadn’t expected.
Bad. I have to get out of here. They decided, flinching at the hot embers against their skin. They dragged themself forward, struggling out of the rubble and crying out at the fire and broken stone against their skin.
Relief… They went limp as soon as they were clear of the flames, laying on the scorched ground and trying to catch their breath through the coughing. They couldn’t rest for too long, though, it wasn’t safe here. I can’t. I have to. I can’t. They tried to pick themself up, too tired and too weak to get to their feet.
The sound of something approaching made them stop struggling for a moment, their heart-rate picking up as it got closer. They dared a glance in that direction, knowing they were helpless to escape. A person. The relief was almost tangible.
“Please help…” They called out as loud as they could- it came out hoarse and quiet, but apparently it was enough- whoever it was, they turned to look at them, then approached. It seemed like it was worth the risk, despite how unnerving he looked this close up- He looked down at them through a pair of dark-tinted glasses, a perfectly unreadable expression on his ash-smeared face. The skull of some unknown beast was strapped to his shoulder, and he held a heavy blade that clearly saw regular use.
After a long moment of mutual observation, the newcomer spoke.
“Here. I’ve got a spare cloak,” He crouched, setting the weapon down and taking the pack from his back to retrieve said article. “Are you hurt?”
“I… don’t think so,” They replied haltingly. The words weren’t coming to them easily, so they took them slowly. “Thank you,”
“That’s lucky,”
“Where… where am I?”
“We’re at what’s left of Black Creek… Don’t worry about that now. I’m going to take you to the Bullmar outpost, you’ll be safe there,” He unrolled the cloak, deftly draping it over their shoulders. “Can you stand?”
“N-no,” They could hardly feel their legs, let alone use them.
“Alright. It isn’t safe here; I’ll help you along as best I can, but it’s a few miles away,” Their rescuer spoke calmly, quietly, ducking under their arm and helping them to their feet. Unsteady, yes, but they managed to stay upright with the support of this strange man. He’s a little shorter than me. They noted absently, somewhat glad of it as that made him easier to lean on comfortably. He patiently aided them onward, into the deep shadows of the surrounding forest.
“Um… What’s your name?” The near silence of the man put them on edge, though they couldn’t figure out why.
“It is to me,”
“Mm… Fine. I am Abernathy,” He said, in the same cool tone he’d used the entire time. “Do you know your name?” He asked, pausing to adjust his ashy hair so it wasn’t in his face; looking at him closer, he looked to be somewhat out of sorts. I wonder what he was doing before he helped me… He looks exhausted.
“It’s… Emmett,” Emmett replied; that felt right.
“Emmett. Alright,” Abernathy nodded, leading them onward. “Well, for what it’s worth, I hope Bullmar will be a place of refuge for you. You’re going to need one,”

Some Changes!
Hello! First off, thank you all for the support you’ve show this blog, I really appreciate it. :)
Second, I’m changing up the posting schedule/content for this blog. I’ve been priming for this for a while now. Instead of simply posting excerpts from things I’m working on or quick vignettes, I’m setting up an episodic story specifically to work on for weekly posting to this blog and my other writing blog (Maybe also to Wattpad. We’ll see.) I hope to post every week on Saturdays. It’ll be quite a bit more polished than most of the things I’ve posted here thus far, and will give this blog a bit more direction, I think.

i’ve been doing my homework on how to break into a writing career and honestly. there’s a Lot that i didn’t know about thats critical to a writing career in this day and age, and on the one hand, its understandable because we’re experiencing a massive cultural shift, but on the other hand, writers who do not have formal training in school or don’t have the connections to learn more via social osmosis end up extremely out of loop and working at a disadvantage.

Baragai, at the insistence of his friend, made preparations to go to check in on humanity, in an assortment of garments that he didn't entirely understand. Sek assured him that that was just what humans wore now, so he'd trust them and hope it wasn't just a joke to make him look ridiculous. It wouldn't be the first time they'd done something like that. So, Gai lit the portal, the a ring of white flame spreading along the edge until it was properly activated. He stepped through, finding himself in a small, wooded area- thankfully, in a clearing that wouldn't set the whole thing on fire as he left, the portal self-extinguishing as he stepped out of it. "I'm going to kill him," Gai sighed as soon as he got out of the little wood, finding some sort of human settlement in front of him. While just as absurd, the way they looked was certainly distinct from his own cotton shirt and canvas pants. "Mm, but I suppose it won't hurt to look around a bit more, anyway," He murmured to himself, squaring his broad shoulders and stepping out into the bright sunlight, the light breeze ruffling his long hair. He tried to act natural- difficult, since he hadn't talked to a human in well over six hundred years.
