gallavich soulmate au concept

okay guys i wanna write this at some point but i’m sharing it anyways! gallavich soulmate au time, tilted ‘in words only we can understand (tell me you love me)’ in my brainstorming doc

so soulmates exist, but everyone has a different connection to theirs. there’s familial and platonic and romantic but they’re all different 

like fiona has the ‘first words they say to you are on your body’ thing, lip has the ‘can hear the music they’re listening to’ thing, maybe debbie has the red string of fate. whatever it is, it’s different for everyone 

you kinda have to figure it out so that you know when you’ve met your soulmate, but for some people it’s not as easy to put together

for example. ian and mickey. when they’re young, they start speaking in a language that simply does not exist. at all, to anyone else. 

it makes perfect sense to them. if they record themselves and listen back to it, they know what they’re saying. if they write stuff down and read it later they know what it says. like, it’s a full out language they just know 

it feels more natural to speak in this language than english, but this language doesn’t exist for the rest of the world so they have to grow out of using it. it becomes a thing where if they’re writing something they don’t want others to know or saying a stray thought out loud, they might use it, but that’s it.

lip maybe knows a little bit from ian but since there isn’t like, a textbook, he’s not fluent or anything. it’s just a few words that ian’s taught him, that’s it. this isn’t a super important detail, it could just be a fun dynamic of him picking up on key words from ian’s sentences 

so by the time ian and mickey meet, they both rarely use this language and are generally used to keeping it secret to not seem absolutely insane. and since that’s the only connection they have, they are both just kinda like ‘oh i’m probably not gonna find my soulmate.’ 

there’s a few ways the concept can go from here. 

maybe they HATE each other and are forced to do something together and one of them slips up and says a word in their language and now they have to deal with that

maybe they’re casually dating and it’s great and when the topic of soulmates comes up, ian speaks in the language and mickey is like “pardon me?” and now the relationship can’t be casual anymore because they’re soulmates 

this fic would probably be like, a oneshot or a few chapters just of them finally finding the person that understands them in a world where no one else can 

some fun shenanigans of speaking and no one else knowing what they’re up to, as well

i wanna mess with setting/situation and stuff too, like ignore the cannon timeline, so i’m not sure of the plot. but i liked the idea and wanted to share it

after immensely struggling with motivation for writing for a few weeks, I finished writing chapter seven of my interstellar ian au! it’s the longest chapter yet at over 11k words long but I want the fic to be fifteen chapters so it is all remaining in one chapter it is fine 

the overall fic is over 50k words long so far, which is crazy because my longest fics over in the mcyt fandom are about that length. I’m definitely on track to meet/exceed my goal of 100k for the end word count (i set word count goals for each chapter and if I follow them loosely, i’ll definitely hit it i did the math and everything) and I’m so excited about it 

i might post a snippet after a bit of editing tomorrow, just thought I would share my progress <3

AUTISTIC MICKEY HEADCANONS????

OF COURSE!! most of these have to do with unique sensory/stimming outlets, but i think they fit well.

likes spicy foods for the *sensory experience*

never really figured out the whole stimming thing, sometimes when he's excited he will grab ian by the shoulders and shake him. lovingly ofc

bite stim. he bites/chews on things he definitely shouldn't. ian tries to supply chews and even baby teethers at one point but none of it works! mickey bites ian's hands i think, affectionately

he also probably screams/yells really loud even if it's all positive feelings. Ian is like "are you good" and the answer is "yes! look at this thing"

ian lays on top of them when they cuddle bc pressure. maybe mickey gets a weighted blanket eventually but he only uses it when ian is nowhere near and cant lay on him

I think mickey likes play fighting/wrestling as like, a sensory thing? like partner stimming but slightly violent

he doesn't even realize that the reason he's a little bit jumpy/defensive/stressed after going out is bc of sensory overload. he discovers soundproof headphones and it's just great for him

he wears them a lot, and ian will just go on and on talking to him before realizing that he hasn't heard a word

infodumps about really dark shit. like weapons and crime, he just knows a lot about it all. it's a little concerning but ian nods along

vocal stims are the most random shit obviously, mostly bits from songs. ian will sing with him like that one scene from s11

idk what it's called but the whole thing where someone gives someone a cool rock they found as a present? he does that. it's all very much random knick-knacks, but he'll give ian rocks, pieces of colorful glass, bottle caps, can tabs, marbles etc. ian has no idea where he acquires the objects from but he has a glass dish for them

okay that's all for now! i might steal some of these for my fic tbh, because i think they're really good. feel free to add on in the reblogs!

sneak peek - bright as the stars

hey i like disappeared for a hot second and I haven’t been writing, but here’s a sneak peek from the draft of chapter seven of my interstellar ian au, currently titled: “let’s call this friends with benefits (what if I told you everything)” 

He could almost feel the future familiarity that came with getting ready together. 

Brushing their teeth. Ian hesitantly taking his meds and Mickey pointedly not paying any mind because when he did glance over, the redhead seemed nervous. 

Mickey putting on his jewelry. The earring and bracelets he had left in a pile on the bathroom counter. 

Them sharing Ian’s hair products to do their hair. 

“You’re wearing it curly?” Mickey’s face lit up at the sight of Ian covering his hands in gel and then ruffling his locks instead of pushing them back. 

“Yeah. It’s the weekend, so why not?” he shrugged as if it were nothing, but the way the electrician admired him in the mirror made his heart warm. Then, opened a drawer and grabbed the necklace Mickey gifted to him, “Can you help me put it on again?” 

“I suppose.” he sighed as if the task was so incredibly taxing, but he didn’t really seem all that upset about it. So, Mickey lifted the chain over his head and clasped the ends. 

Then, Ian plucked a tube of lipgloss from the array of stuff in the drawer, earning a confused look from the other man. 

“You wear makeup?” he asked. He didn’t sound judgemental, just curious.

“Well, I’m an actor. So, obviously.” Ian began, talking as his twisted the lid off.“But day-to-day, I just like this clear stuff. This one isn’t too sticky and I think it makes my eyes sparkle.” 

He finished applying it, rubbing his lips together and turning to face the other man. He batted his eyelashes in a mocking way, entirely intended to make the other man laugh. 

Instead, Mickey just admired him. 

“I guess it does look pretty on you.” he smiled. “It’d be a shame of someone came and messed it up, wouldn’t it?” 

He moved in like he was going to kiss him, but Ian used the palm of his hand to push him back by his forehead. 

“Yes, it really would.” 

Now, they were both laughing.

there’s your little tidbit! i set a goal to write two chapters of this this month, but I’m hoping I can get more done and get a posting schedule planned for this “little” project.

Nonverbal Ian

i think this is a writing request bc it's all over my blogs that i'm open to them, i just dont guarantee that I'll use them! I don't feel like writing a fic for this; however, i'm gonna do some situational headcannons for it:

okay so this is immediately in a universe where ian is autistic. i know a lot of people go nonverbal when overwhelmed but sometimes for me, it happens during moments where I'm comfortable and calm and bc I say so! this happens to ian too

so maybe after a long day of whatever ian is up to, he goes to hang out with mickey and just sorta stops talking? his brain decides that words are overrated actually

it takes mickey a minute to realize whats happening, because for a while all of his questions and comments don't require a verbal response but eventually he's like 'why are you only nodding and shaking your head'

shrug

'are you good?'

nod

'then why aren't you talking?'

shrug

it's all playful i think, like mickey's concerned at first but once he realizes that ian is fine, it's just a game of him trying to figure out what is going on

it's like bickering except ian doesn't need to say any words at all, which proves that their playful non-fights will happen no matter what in any universe

maybe mickey's weirded out by it out of worry but ian seems okay and fine and he's smiling, so then it's him just trying to understand what ian wants. deciphering little head shakes and faces and pointing that wouldn't make sense to anyone else.

if this were a fic, that would be most of it. just mickey trying his best to understand ian.

'babe you gotta give me something' *more aggressive pointing*

when ian fades back into speaking, it starts with vocal stimming. and mickey is like 'thank god you're talking again' but actually he's just humming and singing bits and pieces of songs he likes and mickey is like 'oh.'

then that becomes little one to three word phrases, which is when ian explains that sometimes his brain just doesnt wanna speak. i can't decide if he is diagnosed and mickey knows about it or if he's just genuinely convinced that this is just a quirky funny thing, but either way mickey asks simple questions and the whole thing would end with him being like 'craaaazy concept: sign language?'

guys i know this blog is mostly shameless now but my most popular fic over in the dsmp/mcyt fandom hit 9k hits! it’s ten chapters, so that’s like 900 ppl reading all 55k words and that’s pretty rad 

the fic is a bond built of hate and cabins in the woods, which i wrote during late summer/early fall of 2022 and started posting in early october. it was my first novel-length project and kinda what got me into writing longer form fics at all?

fun fact, I actually came up with a sequel concept a little while back? it’s like, the boys two years later during the summer right before college. there’s more to it and it would require more planning and idk if I’m actually going to write it, but the idea does exist so that’s cool. kinda busy with my current Big Project tm but maybe one day

i’ll try and figure out a way to celebrate if/when it hits 10k hits! thanks for reading guys

6. Are there any fics from others you reread all the time?

honestly? I'm not a huge fic rereader?

like I will think about fics all the time, and if I really like a fic, I'll seek out the author's other content and other fics with similar tropes/vibes/plots but i'm not huge about just rereading the same content again. it's an attention span thing, I think, I struggle with knowing how a story goes even if I love said story. if I reread something, I skip to very specific scenes that are plaguing my brain or I wait a longggg time until I've basically forgotten it

that being said, some fics that have been positively rotting my brain since I've read them are: Cooperative Gameplay, you'll never see us again, and Your Question Has Been Received

18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?

I could go back through one of my dream smp multichaps, 'a bond built of hate and cabins in the woods' and grab the ending paragraphs to the final chapter because i'm still lowkey proud of it almost a year later, or just go through any of my longform mcyt works but i'm gonna stick to something i've written more recently and grab a line or two from 'bright as the stars' (the interstellar ian au) chapter six:

"For every almost, there was a universe where they kissed. Where their hands ended up all over each other’s bodies, where they ended up together in all the ways they wanted to be."

i think it works better in the context of the scene but omg! in the context of the scene it hits so hard and i'm so excited to share it with you guys

I don't really do moodboards, but here's the spotify playlist to bright as the stars. i kinda treat my fic playlists like other authors do moodboards, it's the tool I use to map out the vibes and inspire me to keep working

11. Do you have specific playlists for writing fics?

YES. any fic that takes more than two seconds of thought/planning usually gets an individual playlist that's more vibe-based that it is plot based. so most of my multichaptered fics/wips have playlists. they usually come at some point in the planning/early drafting process

I don't always listen to music while writing because sometimes it distracts me, but when I do, it's helpful to have a specialized playlist for it. i'm gonna go ahead and leak the playlist to my interstellar ian au here

like i said, it's more vibe based than plot based so nothing is really getting spoiled, but if you're interested in what I've released about the au so far i totally recommend checking out the playlist

21. Have you ever deleted an entire scene after spending hours laboring over it? If so, why?

i've deleted entire fics, like thousands of words. This only happens when I just cant continue with a fic in a certain way or something feels off, or I am just not interested in the idea anymore. i delete it and move on or start from scratch with the idea

when it comes to fics I plan on continuing/keeping parts of, I do more reordering/adding in scenes than I do removing them

i have to edit it in the morning but I just finished the longest chapter yet of my wip, chapter six, after a few days of struggling to find time to write. It’s 1:32 am BUT the chapter ended up being 9k, bringing the current overall word count to 40k and the document to over 100 pages !! 

i’m doing the writing thing guys this is so cool

GUYS i’m writing chapter six of my interstellar ian au and the title of the fic since I started writing has been ‘bright as the stars’ BUT that was the first thing I came up with, I kinda wanted something different but couldn’t come up with anything else

what do you guys think about ‘electrical fire’

as in mickey is an electrician so it’s a pun but also ian feels like he’s on fire when he’s with mickey and that there’s ‘electricity buzzing between them’ every time they almost kiss 

thoughts? maybe? i feel a little attached to bright as the stars because of the vibes but like, idk. electrical fire is a pretty banger title

i'm writing chapter six of my au where ian is the host of a kid's show and also autistic and i'm just gonna spoil a small little plot point bc i think you'd enjoy it !! if you wanna read my upcoming fic (bright as the stars) without insider info just skip this ig

in chapter five, they're hanging out and they end up having to go to a different corner store than usual for snacks and they don't sell Ian's specific candy bar he always gets. it's like, a local brand dark chocolate. but it's whatever, right?

him and mickey are having a good day so he just sucks it up and gets a Hershey bar instead. not the same but ian's determined to not linger on it

chapter six, like a weekish+ later on Ian's birthday, Mickey gives Ian a few presents INCLUDING the very specific dark chocolate bar ian always gets. he explains how he noticed ian's disappointment on that day and went and got the kind he liked and added it to his presents

this leads into ian explaining that he has issues with food (tastes and textures) and is specific about brands and certain types of food, and mickey pretty much says "if we ever eat together, tell me what you like ahead of time. so i can get foods you like"

i know it's like, bare minimum for friends to accommodate to each other's needs like that but idk the idea makes me happy. just them working to make each other as comfortable as possible and the specific examples of that, even as early as chapters five/six when they are in their in-denial 'just friends' era.

i was just writing out this scene and thought that maybe you'd enjoy it since you liked me rambling about accidentally making ian autistic. now it's on purpose because i realized it

yeah ians definitely a dark chocolate lover. he definitely took one bite of the hershey bar then pretending to eat it only to spit it out when nobodys looking. also i just KNOW he likes raw vegetables bc of the Crunch, the freak

great now im mickey making ian dinner and being like "no this isnt a date youre just at my place petting my cat while i cook you a meal that meets both our restrictive needs this is NOT a date" and ians thinking "🤭heeheehee its a date ☺️"

I was technically not tagged (which is fair. I haven’t been super active in the Gallavich fandom for a while). But this game is super up my alley so I’m doing it anyway 😊

rules (more or less): use this au generator to assign you an au, this fan fiction trope generator to give you a trope/situation/sometimes another au, feel free to keep clicking until you get something that inspires you.

then try to come up with the title, plot, vibe, and details of a fic including whatever the generators gave you. you don’t actually have to write it, just put the concept into the world! this is basically just a thought experiment.

I got:

AU: Shipwrecked AU

Trope: Write a modern royalty AU

The Gallaghers are a royal family from some European country. (Possibly somewhere in the UK or a made up one idk). They’re notorious because of the antics and scandals of their father, King Francis, and the whole world is basically waiting for him to finally get himself killed and for the eldest, Princess Fiona, to become queen.

Prince Ian, frankly, is glad that he is two people behind from ever becoming king. Being a prince in the public is bad enough with having to keep his sexuality on the down-low. Not to mention he always has the fear of his true parentage one day being leaked to the press. (In this AU, he is secretly Clayton’s biological son just like in canon).

The Gallagher siblings decide to take a break from the scandalous life the castle brings them by going on a long cruise on their private yacht.

Mickey is hired to work on the ship as a deckhand during the cruise. At first he didn’t want to take the job because working under a bunch of prissy rich royals was the last thing he wanted to do. But he eventually talked himself into it because hey, the pay is decent and it would mean a good month of being away from Terry. (And if he played his cards right, maybe he could find a few jewels or other expensive shit to snag).

Ian meets Mickey on the ship and is smitten immediately. There’s something about Mickey’s grumpy exterior that just charms him. Being a prince, he’s always had to be careful about his hookups not getting exposed. But they were on a ship and away from the general public. Perfect timing to have a fun fling, right? Only, Mickey doesn’t seem super receptive to his flirtation. Maybe his assumptions that Mickey wasn’t straight were off?

Mickey can’t tell if Ian is flirting with him out of genuine interest or just to be a cocky asshole. Either way, he’s not falling for it. Fuck him for thinking just because he’s a prince that Mickey will fall into bed with him. Sure Ian doesn’t seem all bad and is definitely less irritating than the other Gallaghers. And sure Mickey gets this annoying, fluttery feeling in his chest whenever the fucker smiles at him. But whatever, it doesn’t mean anything.

The ship ends up sinking of course, due to some sort of accident. Everyone makes it onto a lifeboat except Mickey. The worst part? He never learned to properly swim. Ian, having ended up in his own lone lifeboat, spots Mickey struggling in the water and quickly rows over to his aid, grabbing him and pulling him onto the lifeboat.

The tides separate Ian and Mickey from the others. They eventually find themselves on a small tropical island. And there are no other people.

Ian is panicked. Having grown up as a royal, he never learned proper skills to survive in a situation like this. Mickey, however, has grown up teaching himself survival skills and sets out to work on getting them shelter and food. He includes Ian in on all his plans because, as annoying as the guy may be, he did save Mickey from drowning and Mickey supposes he owes him for that. And right now, all they had was each other.

They eventually get themselves a pretty decent setup. They create a fort for them to sleep and take shelter from the sun in. There’s a stream a little further into the forest where they can get fresh water. And their diet consists of fish from the ocean, fruit, and small animals they hunt on the island. Mickey teaches Ian as they go.

Once the threat of death is for the most part evaded they begin to bond. After all, what else do they really have to do besides talk? Ian opens up to Mickey about the pressure he feels being a closeted gay man in the royal family. And eventually, tells Mickey his biggest secret-he isn’t really King Francis’ son.

Mickey in turn tells Ian about his life growing up under Terry’s thumb and his own dark secret. About how Terry once caught him with a boy when he was a teenager and was nearly beat to death.

Horrified by Mickey’s story, Ian makes a silent vow that, if they ever got off the island, he would come out to the public and use his fame and image to become an activist for gay kids who could be suffering the way Mickey did.

Mickey for his part makes a promise to himself that if he got off the island, he would finally leave Terry behind once and for all and make a new life for himself. Even if it means leaving the south side.

Months go by and they of course begin to fall in love. And both of them start to wonder…maybe being on the island isn’t all that terrible. It somehow becomes a solace and escape from the drama of their normal lives. And here, it’s just the two of them. They can finally be themselves.

They do eventually get discovered and rescued. The news of Prince Ian Gallagher being found alive on an island months after the family’s yacht sank becomes huge news. And Mickey somehow gets painted as a hero-the ordinary citizen who helped their beloved prince survive months on an uninhabited island. The Gallaghers are so grateful to Mickey for keeping Ian alive that they give him a large sum of money. Mickey doesn’t want to accept it at first but Ian convinces him to use the money to begin building his new life away from Terry.

Ian and Mickey reluctantly go their separate ways. No matter how they feel about each other, Ian is a prince and has an image to uphold. Mickey knows that Ian already has enough shit to deal with being closeted and having to keep his true parentage under wraps. The last thing he needs is to be tied to a south side thug. It’s better for them to say goodbye, or so he tells himself.

Some time goes by and Ian eventually reaches his breaking point. He misses Mickey and, as much as he loves his family, he’s never fully fit in the royal life anyway. He finally does what he promised himself while on the island and writes and publishes an article where he comes out as gay. And at the end of the article, he officially announces his intent to abdicate his title of prince.

Though Ian never name drops Mickey in the article, a lot of the public had already romanticized their relationship from the island story and assume Ian is abdicating so he can be with him.

Mickey is sitting in his new apartment and watching the news. His jaw drops when he see’s a story about the famed Prince Ian Gallagher coming out as gay and leaving the royal life behind. But before he has a chance to fully react, there’s a knock on his front door.

Ian is at the door. And he smiles at Mickey before asking if his apartment has enough room for two.
