Hawkins, Indiana [Hawkins Lab]
September 8th, 1979
Blood stained the once-pristine white walls of the Lab where the children part of MKUltra were placed. A young woman clothed in a long flexible white skirt and shirt had a child trailing behind her as they stumbled over the bodies of guards and orderlies, their understandable fear plastered on their faces. Trekking through a bloodbath, the woman bravely opened the double doors, and a gruesome panorama greeted them. The child wailed as she saw her siblings mutilated on the ground with their eyes sucked out of the skulls, and the woman covered her mouth in shock. The young girl cowered behind the woman, sniffling and trembling, and the woman, Vanessa Zonoff, protectively shrouded the child with her arm. A man stood in the center, someone Vanessa knew well. Henry Creel. Number One. Add child murderer to that list. He was also her husband and the father of their fifteen-year-old daughter.
“Henry,” she gasped, quivering. “What... what have you done?”
Vanessa could only hear the obnoxious buzzing from the fluorescent lights shimmering above. Something relatively habituated her to that noise, so it didn’t bother her.
“I did what had to be done,” Henry responded, not yet turned around. He didn’t need to. He could see Vanessa and the child, Eleven, in the window’s reflection encompassing an observatory room on the other side. “To free ourselves from this living Hell.”
“Does that mean slaughtering innocent children? They’re practically babies, Henry.”
“The little ones, yes,” he corrected. “But not Two and his posse. They were harder to kill.”
Vanessa urged Eleven to remain calm and stay where she was as she walked over to her lover until she was a few feet away from him. Voice-breaking, she said, “Is this what you call autonomy, Henry? Unnecessary deaths?”
He spun around, and a precarious countenance hazed his pupils. Red plasma was smeared on his forehead, and blood was gushing out onto his collar where the Soteria inhibitor chip once was. Vanessa abhorred to concede it, but even coated in blood, he still looked beautiful. Where was the man she knew? Was this him? No. Vanessa refused to believe it. She knew Henry was a good person. Vanessa loved and trusted him enough to let him impregnate her with his offspring and even accept his hand in marriage. Maybe she could redeem him. Help him escape this thing that stood before her, if that was even possible. She fiddled with her gold wedding ring as he explained how he got positioned in the Lab.
He was born to Victor and Virginia Creel in 1947 and had an older sister named Alice. In 1959, his parents purchased a Victorian-style house and officially moved into Hawkins. Henry found solace in Black Widows, claiming they endlessly captivated him, and he wanted to learn more. He said he attained into people’s minds, read their darkest enigmas, and manipulated their vulnerabilities against them by utilizing psychokinetic powers. He practiced his abilities on animals, but with not much space to camouflage them, his sister noticed disfigured animals scattered around the playground. He told Vanessa about his misanthropic and nihilistic provisions that fueled his energy.
“I could not do that. I could not close off my mind and join in the madness,” Henry continued. “I could not pretend. And I realized I didn’t have to. I could make my own rules. I could restore balance to a broken world. A predator, but for good.” When he finished his backstory, Vanessa stood there silently. With a numb smile, he murmured, “Join me.”

“No. I will never join you,” Vanessa snapped, eyes glazed in fury as her husband used two fingers to lift her chin. “After what you did to these children, I am never letting you anywhere near our daughter, you monster.”
He sighed, releasing his fingers, and whispered in her ear, “Then I guess I have to kill you.”
Wrath rushed through Vanessa, and she shoved him with a challenging look. “Go ahead. Kill me. See how Lydia will respond to that. I dare you.”
“She won’t have time to,” he hissed. “Because after I kill you, I’m killing her.”
“You wouldn’t!”
“Watch me.”
Screaming, Vanessa launched herself at Henry, beating him anywhere she could find access. “You stay away from us!” she snarled, eyes glazed with motherly protectiveness.
Henry flipped her over, cramming his body against hers in the battle for eminence. Vanessa clawed at him, uttering strings of profanities. She kicked him in the shin, but he barely flinched. Instead, he accommodated the pain by clutching his hand in her throat, lifting her body halfway up. She gagged, eyes rolling back, and black dots sufficing her vision. Sputtering, Vanessa scratched Henry’s arms to get out of his powerful hold. It was no use. She was going to die. Killed by her lover. Somebody she thought she could count on. An invisible force projected Henry off her as if the world read her thoughts. Tears tainted her cheeks as she struggled to breathe, pathetically shuffling through the double doors. Nonnative screeching filled her mind, and all went eerily silent as she lost consciousness.

❧ This story is a work of fiction. Fiction is fiction: it is not real.
TIMELINE
To better understand the ages of everyone at the start of this story and how they (Henry and Vanessa) met, please read this so I won’t get backlash:
❧ According to Vecna’s Wiki page, he was 25 years old during the events of ‘79 leading up to the massacre and was exiled to the Upside Down. Also, in ‘86, he was 36 years old.
❧ Brenner found out about Henry and Vanessa’s child (Lydia) in ‘82. Vanessa was still working as a nurse at that time. She was 33 years old. Lydia was 15 years old when Vanessa quit her job because she knew Lydia would be in danger just like Henry was.
❧ Henry and Vanessa first met in the Lab when they were 15 (Vanessa)-17 (Henry) years old. This several years after Henry killed Alice and Virgina. (‘59). He was also 12 years old when he became Number One. Vanessa was there shadowing an orderly to see if she wanted to be a staff member at Hawkins Lab in that department. A few years later, she actually took the job as a nurse trainee when she was 17. Henry was 19 and still mastering his powers. They began a romantic relationship (married) when she was 18 and he was 20. That was ‘67. That means Lydia was born before Eleven. (El was born in ‘71.) They managed to keep Lydia a secret from Brenner by residing in the Wheeler household in a guest room after work hours. Vanessa had Mrs. Wheeler’s support for helping to raise their child and Karen then babysat Lydia while Henry and Vanessa were on their shifts at the Lab.
❧ In my story, Henry was born in ‘47. (Which means he was 12 years old when he and his family moved to the Creel House in the year of ‘59 and went all demon child crazy.)
❧ In my story, Henry was 21 years old when Lydia was born in ‘68.
❧ In my story, Vanessa lies to Lydia about her father. While Ch. Zero states Lydia had no recollection of her father, that is because Vanessa begged Brenner to erase that part of her memory to keep her safe before disappearing.
❧ To make the ages fit in the story, Henry would be 32 years old instead of 25 when Eleven banishes him to the Upside Down.
❧ Vanessa was born in ‘49-50 and was 19 when Lydia was born in ‘68. Henry and Vanessa married in ‘67, a year before Lydia was born.
❧ Lydia and Vanessa moved to the Forest Hills Trailer Park in ‘82. Lydia was 15 and Vanessa was 32.
❧ Lydia met Eddie when he was 17 years old. (He is 20 in ‘86.) She would be 18 when they started dating in ‘86.
❧ Lydia met the boys in ‘82 when they were eleven (haha) years old. She was 15 at the time. (Basically Nancy’s age). Keep in mind they were all 12 in the events of ‘83. (Season One.)
I really hoped that helped better clear the confusion with all that stuff! Anyways, happy reading! :D
P.S: Eddie is 010 in this story. Oh, and he lives!

Lydia “Lia” Zonoff has only known one thing for certain in her life: she has never met her father. Her mother claims he was killed in the 1979 massacre at Hawkins Lab, but that was far from the truth. In the Spring of 1986, Lydia and Hawkins’ heroes band together once more to defeat a new threat from the Upside Down, unlike any other evil they’ve obliterated before. Will they destroy the monster threatening to demolish anything and anyone in his path? Can they prevent further devastation of the world as they know it, or are they too late?
