wanted to doodle the god of time for this au, meet "Ordona" aka the Fierce Deity of Time

Link is an ancestor of his and he's extremely hands off, usually passing shit onto Hylia or Demise or the three goddesses bc he's not invested in basically anything. when he is, its only when time and space is at risk, which isn't very often, but if he gets involved he's got a worse temper than Demise

Link bullies an Ocarina of Time out of him! here's a size comparison. Considering Zonai!Link is about the same size as Sidon, this dude's a bit toll. He also didn't used to be a god of time until he defeated Majora a long time ago through his music, when he was still very very young

it was a sad affair, and one of the reasons he doesn't participate in wars between the gods anymore. Majora nearly decimated the Zonai population and they never really recovered, even after Ordona took the helm. (as a result he's THRILLED that Link turned into a Zonai. hell yes my sonboy. furry upon thee!!)

A Zonai-Dragon Theory

So I’ve been riding dragons around in Tears of the Kingdom to gather materials and to learn about their flight paths, and I noticed an interesting thing about... of all things... the dragons’ ears.

Take a look at the ears on Naydra...

on Farosh...

and on Dinraal...

Those are some big and long ears relative to the sizes of the dragons’ heads. Now, this might not be noteworthy on first glance, but think about who else have big ears in Tears of the Kingdom...

The Zonai. Yes, I propose that the three dragons: Dinraal, Farosh, and Naydra were once Zonai.

If we take the two we’ve seen in TotK, namely Rauru and Mineru, as representative of the Zonai race as a whole, then we have a good idea of how their people probably appear. Large ears might’ve been very common for their people.

Add to this the fact that the Zonai are tied closely to dragons in their architecture throughout the sky, surface, and the depths. Their culture would have to be tied to it as well if their architecture reflected it, and this is reinforced by what Mineru tells us of their taboo of dragonification.

And a taboo typically results from some event or incident that formed a cultural opinion on it. There had to be a time or event where one or more Zonai swallowed their secret stones and became dragons.

In a previous theory I wrote, I noted that it’s likely these three dragons are very old and potentially tied toward the origins of the world, especially with their names reflecting the Three Triforce Goddesses: Nayru, Farore, and Din. As Mineru tells us in-game, “Long ago, my people, known as the Zonai, came from the heavens to the surface of the worlds. It was said they were the descendants of gods...”

We already know the Zonai existed in an age so long ago, it’s become known as the “Age of Legend.” And through Tears of the Kingdom’s Memory 7, the Zonai are implied to have existed much further back than the threat of Ganondorf.

With their existence so far back in the timeline, the Zonai’s cultural connection to dragons, and being the only ones seen with ready access to secret stones (besides ones stolen or bequeathed from them), it’s not hard to imagine the most likely candidates for people to become dragons in those ancient times are none other than the Zonai themselves.

Adding another potential piece of evidence to this theory is the tragic case of Princess Zelda.

Zelda, known as the Light Dragon to those who have completed the memory chain in TotK, has features that do match the other three dragons: scales, a long mouth, a strange set of eyes, and a long body peppered with crystalline spikes.

But take a look at the Light Dragon’s ears...

Compared to the ears of the other dragons, they’re not quite as long in relation to the size of her head. They’re also a bit sharper and more tapered than the others.

This reflects Zelda’s humanoid appearance, as her ears are far less prominent that Rauru’s or Mineru’s and presumably other Zonai.

What’s more, the Light Dragon (at least to my eye) appears a bit smaller than the other dragons, reflecting her shortness of stature next to Zonai such as Rauru.

Much of this theory is speculation, but I feel like there’s a number of connections, aesthetic and cultural, that tie the Zonai to these three dragons.

And who knows, maybe I’m not even going back far enough in this theory for the real truth: that the dragons are three Triforce Goddesses draconified. If that’s the case, maybe the Zonai reflect the true form of the Goddesses who gave this world their form... if Mineru is indeed correct and they are descended from gods.

But that’s a theory for another day...

Mineru in her bed, eyes closed as she hears the soft sounds of the two: “This is nice, I could sleep to this..”

50TH time

Mineru in her bed, eyes open, ears twitching as she hears louder noises from the two: “Ooh…my brother indulging his dragon instincts…”

100TH Time

Mineru in her bed, eyes wide and bloodshot unable to sleep for hours, clutching her sheets: “I can STILL hear them 8 ROOMS DOWN!”

Rauru loud groaning and dragon noises!

Sonia moaning loudly! “HARDER MY DRAGON GOD KING!”

I’m just gonna say it.

I don’t think Zonai and Hylians are capable of reproduction under normal circumstances.

This is Not to say that I doubt the existence of Sonia and Rauru’s offspring, or Zelda’s blood relation to them, especially given that’s the one thing the game did explicitly tell us.

But on to the reason I think this—

Zelda (as a series) has kept things pretty consistent as far as Hylian/[other] hybrids, with the only exception being an obvious one that Hylians and Gerudo are compatible. But other than that, we’ve never seen anything like a Hylian x Rito/Zora/Goron/etc hybrid (ok so the Goron one makes sense because of their canon asexual reproduction, but it just felt weird excluding them from my point) and it stands to reason why.

They’re not just different races. They’re completely different species, whose differences can’t even be compared to those of a horse and donkey, or lion and tiger. Just by looking at them it’s pretty clear the different peoples throughout Hyrule have incompatible DNA.

Yes they’re all sapient and can fall in love with one another, and that’s totally real and valid! But love isn’t enough to make babies when the lovers are one bird and one fish, or in the case of Rauru and Sonia, one goat-dragon and one human-shape.

However, unlike a Zora or Rito, I believe there is one factor that Zonai could use to create life with a Hylian… their God-like magic!

That being said, I am a lover of science, and if you are too, then listen up, my friends, because I have more to explain, because I STILL don’t believe they can reproduce by [normal means] don’t make me say it… I get enough bots following me

I believe, like other Zonai magic such as ultra hand or ascend, it has to be a conscious decision. A spell, in the simplest terms. Basically, it can’t happen by accident; not to take any romance away from the act, of course! (Putting the rest under a cut cause this is getting long)

To go a bit more in depth—and please keep in mind this is treading even deeper into personal headcanon territory—I believe the magic would neutralize Zonai DNA (or whoever’s providing the sperm. In this case it’s Rauru, but I wonder if he was the only Zonai to ever fall in love with a Hylian…) and it would work kiiind of similarly to parthenogenesis with the resulting offspring being more-or-less a clone of the female parent. That’s right. I believe their child visually looks just like her mother, Sonia, though she’d probably choose her own hairstyle. lol.

Anyway, mammals aren’t actually capable of parthenogenesis, and furthermore that act doesn’t involve sperm, but it’s a cool biology thing I wanted to build a headcanon sort of based around.

I’m also a boring old fool who doesn’t like idea of Sonia birthing a furry, even though I’m all about the ship of her and Rauru. Idk. Half the time I don’t even understand me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
