the ice was the most beautiful part of the national ice arena.
it wasn’t the golden light, shining down from the floodlights, beaming down on you. it wasn’t the waving mondstadtian flags. it was not the flood of people who came from every corner of the continent to watch the national championship. it wasn’t the hushed hum of agents, coaches, and other skaters alike. undeniably, the shiny, glistening ice was the best part of skating in the national arena.
your bones felt old as you peeked out from behind the back room's curtain. the rest of the room cleared out already. nilou, representing sumeru, just finished her beautifully fluid skate. the zamboni machine ran over the ice, slicking up the ice anew. you finished your jump practices and warm-up, keeping the heat in the cold room of the arena. all that remained was you and coach jean.
“up next, just in a few minutes, is mondstadt’s beloved y/n l/n,” the TV screen droned on. “partner to the elite snezhnayan hockey player, childe, the royals of the ice have just reached three years of dating. here’s a quick recap of their love story, while we prep the ice.”
“y/n and childe? oh, ho, i love telling this story,” coach zhongli laughed on the tv screen, crossing his arms across his chest. his hair looked longer, but he still wore the stars’ gold and white tracksuit. “before they were on the tu hockey team, y/n and childe already hated each other. childe took y/n’s skating time and didn’t clean up the rink, and y/n accidentally taught childe’s younger brother, teucer, how to skate.”
“i get so embarrassed every time that that thing plays,” you said, shaking your head. you buried your face in your hands as soon as coach jean appeared on the screen.
“y/n is every aspect of their sport. cold, cool, collected, and always calm,” she said. her lips quirked up as she tried to hide a smile behind a pressed hand. “except for when it came to childe.”
“did you have to agree to that?” you rolled your eyes, turning to face coach jean.
“couldn’t help it,” she shrugged from her chair in the back corner of the room. “talking about my protege and their boyfriend was too good of an opportunity to pass up.”
“y/n? oh, i don’t even have the words to describe how happy they make me,” childe’s voice spoke over the tv, running a hand through his hair. “i’ve never seen someone who loves as fiercely as y/n has. i’m very lucky to be receiving it. they’re the perfect partner.”
a smile came over his face and you chuckled. as you watched several pictures of you holding hands, recreating famous doubles’ skating poses, and goofily wearing each other’s gear flicker on the screen, you sucked in a breath. shaking out the nervousness, you held your head high as you stood behind the curtain.
you heard coach jean get up from her seat and stand beside you. “are you ready for the skate, y/n?” she asked.
“yes, coach,” you replied, smoothing down the front of your outfit again.
she appeared in your peripheral vision in a flash of swaying blonde hair and blue fabric. “no matter what happens today, i hope you know you are more than worthy of any title.”
“the international skating association’s championship only comes around once every four years. i have no choice but to have full confidence in myself, coach,” you looked back briefly with a small smile, before flinging open the curtain. as a cacophony of camera clicks and flashing lights came over your face, you scanned the crowd. the blue-toned hair of xingqiu and chongyun popped up with excitement in the v.i.p. section, waving a giant cardboard cutout of your face. xiao propped up a hand before getting eclipsed by the sight of diluc and kaeya quarreling over who got to hold the teyvat university banner. coach zhongli was on his feet, cheerfully welcoming your arrival. laughing, you waved at your beloved team before addressing her again. “after all, i have people like you waiting on me in the wings.”
walking forward, your blood flow rushed towards your hands and your feet. bouncing up and down slightly, you casually answered questions as you made your way to the entrance of the rink.
“y/n, how do you feel about tonight?”
“feeling great, honestly. i’ve been waiting for this moment for three years now.”
“four years ago, we watched as you took an almost career-ending injury to your knee. what is the importance of this skate?”
“it’s important to me, but i’ve also come to realize that there are things beyond skating. whether or not i win tonight is the least of my worries. what tonight is a celebration of returning to the ice.”
“y/n, your relationship with the snezhnaya fatui center, childe, has landed you the name of ice royals. what do you take that for?”
“it’s an honor. if childe and i can make at least one kid out there get out there on the ice, then i think we’re doing pretty good.”
as you ushered through, you passed in front of the v.i.p. section where the team lay. “hey, hey, hey! that’s my manager!” kaeya hollered, sending everyone in the stands flying. “go get ‘em tonight!”
“hey, kaeya!” you replied, fist-bumping him as he leaned down. “hoping for the trophy and the ring tonight!”
before he could reply, diluc bumped his shoulder to the side. “attention whore,” diluc swore, shoving him over to look down at you. you laughed, slapping your hand against his own. he grinned as kaeya looked like he was going to punch him. “go get ‘em tonight, y/n. i know i didn’t fly out from mondstadt for nothing.”
“okay, okay, mr. dawn winery,” you chuckled, mock-saluting him. turning away as both brothers began to brawl, xingqiu and chognyun jumped up and down to greet you. teasing, you waved up at them. “aw, my freshmen are all grown up!”
“we were never that small, to begin with, but whatever,” xingqiu rolled his eyes. “congrats on your comeback. i hope you know how excited we are for you!”
“i agree!” chongyun nodded. “watching you skate is always a good time!”
“and i’m sure that us having a huge cardboard cut out of your face is evidence of that!” xingqiu piped up, shaking the board excitedly. “this is seriously awesome! you’ll kill them tonight!”
xiao let out a little sigh, crossing his arms as coach and ganyu sat beside him. “you two are way too excitable,” he huffed, turning his head in slight disappointment.
“xiao was actually the one who was really excited and wanted to fly the whole team out here tonight,” ganyu teased, ruffling his hair. “he’s been making good of that multi-million dollar contract with the liyue adepti hockey team. speaking of which, he skipped tonight’s big game against the mondstadt knights to watch you.”
“oh, shut up,” he scoffed before offering a short nod at you. “i wanted to make sure you knew how much you mean to us. money and hockey are the least of my worries right now. the international championship only comes around once every four years.”
“i thoroughly appreciate the support, xiao,” you said earnestly, placing a hand on your chest as a sign of respect. “thank you for coming out tonight.” he didn’t reply and only gave a short nod at you.
coach zhongli was on his feet, wearing a slick black and brown suit with an amber tie. he leaned down to stare you down from the v.i.p. section, crossing his arms behind his back. “well, hello,” he greeted casually. “looks like our manager finally made good on their promise to take that international title, huh?”
“hey, coach!” you eagerly greeted, placing your hands on your hips. “i certainly plan on it. thanks for showing up tonight. i bet you’re feeling great after yet another national win, huh?”
“haha, the abyss was pretty good this season. we lost a game or two against them, but of course, my stars came through in the end,” he laughed. “and of course, my mood will only increase after seeing you on the ice tonight. good luck, y/n.”
“i’ll do my very best, coach. besides, it would be nice to have both a teyvat university trophy and an international trophy and ring under my belt.”
with a final wave, you strode away, carrying your head high. a murmur flowed through the staff as you walked through, running around with black clipboards and cameras. above you, the lights dim. as some assistants escorted you to your bench, you closed your eyes.
four years ago, you walked in with the expectation of a victory and ended up riding out on a stretcher. but today, you could care less about whether or not you got a trophy and a ring. today was about taking back what was yours: your love for skating.
taking a final swig of your water, you opened your eyes to hear your name briefly mentioned by the spectators. nearing the dashboard, you looked back at coach jean. she nodded, squeezing your shoulder before letting you go.
skating forward, you jutted your skates into the ice. stretching your arms, you slid by the dasher boards as the wind bit at your neck and cheeks, and a hand suddenly grabbed your own. it yanked you so hard that your back was flush with the person's chest and half-falling down the side of the rink.
scowling, you stood up and looked back. “haven’t we talked about how you aren’t supposed to do that when i’m about to skate?”
“you know you love it,” a voice that sounded like home said. “c’mon, don’t think i didn’t notice that you said hi to everyone but me before going out there.”
“they already showed a five-minute video about our relationship,” you deadpanned, looking at your boyfriend. “and besides, you know i always say something to you before i do my skate program.”
“uh-huh, keep telling yourself that,” childe laughed. “anyways, good luck today, sweetheart. you’re going to do great. after this, what do you think about having dinner together in the liyue district? take out in the car again?”
“i’m about to skate the most important program of my life and you’re here telling me about our dinner plans?” you sighed and shook your head at him. “you’re ridiculous. but, can you order ahead at the wanmin restaurant for crystal shrimp and jueyun chicken chili?”
“you’re so stubborn,” he chuckled. “but don’t worry, i’ve got them on speed dial. after going to every single one of your competitions since graduation, i’ve predicted how these things work.”
looking at the pa system above, you looked at the pa system and the lights. “i better head out,” you started before letting go of his hands. “i’ll see you in five minutes.”
turning around, you dug the blade into the ice. “hey, y/n? i think you forgot something,” childe piped up. spinning around, you skated back over to him with a confused face.
“did i forget a glove or--”
suddenly, with the unabashed and reckless fervor your boyfriend always had, he took a hand under your chin and met his lips with yours. flustered, you reciprocated, placing a gentle hand on his face. the lights and the crowd went unseen and unheard as you kissed him, attention devoted to him exclusively.
pulling away with a heaving chest, you smacked his shoulder. “what the hell was that for? we’re in public, childe,” you chastised.
“just a good luck kiss,” he let out a fleeting giggle with child-like wonder. kissing you on the cheek, he fist-bumped you. “you’ve got this. love you!”
ushering you forward, you rolled your eyes with a smile. “i love you too,” you mouthed as you slid to the center of the arena.
“now skating, from mondstadt, y/n l/n!” the overhead announcer declared. you threw your hands up in the air, spinning around once and blowing kisses to the crowd. fans shook their banners with a delightful fervor. as the stagnant heat from the spotlight hit your shoulders and the bitter cold bit at your legs, you stilled and closed your eyes.
the volume in the room was a little over a whisper, but you could hear him from where you stood. his voice singled out, standing alone in the crowds of thousands. “c’mon, y/n,” childe hushedly said, but his voice was clear as day. “you got this. you’ve worked hard for everything; now is your time to shine.”
your lips quirked up into a smile momentarily.
the song was a classical one. your short program song was a pop song, but for the longer skate, you chose an intimate, warm, and personal ballad. it was not only a personal testament to your previously known skating skills but to show everyone how much you had improved over your four-year hiatus.
it began with the quiet hum of a lone violin, to which you raised your arms high above your head. the accompanying oboe and clarinet followed, sounding rich with harmonious chords and thick with slow and sultry notes.
tilting your head back, you returned it forward again as you took off. you rocked on one blade, gyrating your body in a perfect circle. as the slow and docile introduction quickened its rhythm, you changed directions to skate backward. picking up speed, the cold wind embraced your exposed neck and hands. abruptly taking flight, you took off.
there was no sense of vertigo or whiplash while you were in the air. counting the jumps and holding your arms tight to your chest for an aerodynamic advantage, you took in a breath. as your height decreased, you landed on the backward outside edge of your opposite skate’s blade, arms wide open. the crowd cheered, clapping in amazing awe, but you were just getting started. childe’s blue eyes caught your own once you skated over, whooping with unashamed rowdiness.
the tone mellowed out again, to which you took the opportunity to incorporate the more artistic parts of the routine. the raw emotion poured from you as the cellos began to bow with accented notes. twizzling back and forth, you eventually stopped to lean parallel to the ice. holding your skate, you whirled around for a few seconds longer before standing upright again. as the crowd applauded, you raised your head and hands up high.
skating backward again, you prepared for a triple flip and took off with your inside skate, you hopped up into the air. your cheeks were hot with the extreme strength it took to get up, cooled only by the three spins while in the air. landing on the opposite foot, you quickly jumped up again with the same foot. turning around twice, you landed a perfect double loop.
the people were thrilled at the sight as you took the next few moves to recover from the exertion. leaning to the side at a sixty-degree angle, your hands nearly brushed against the ice as you circled the center. standing again, you slid forward to perform another spin.
this particular whirl was a layback, where your back was nearly parallel to the floor and one foot in the air. then, it abruptly changed even more with your hands catching the back edge of the skate. finally, using the last of your momentum, you lifted your skate up above your head.
letting go of the skate, you spun once again. the song picked up an even faster beat, prompting you to move backward. you performed a double salchow with ease, and you mentally prepared yourself for the last and final move. once the bane of your existence, but now a familiar and close friend, your centerpiece was a triple axel.
you looked at childe for support as you passed by him gracefully. he simply mouthed “i love you”, sending your heart pounding with anticipation and swelling with love for him. grinning, you winked at him before sliding by him.
at the north end of the rink, you put the last of your energy toward the jump. taking a breath, you halted abruptly and launched yourself into the air.
here, you could see the entire rink as you spun. you stared at the crowd, but your eyes locked on childe’s. he stared at you with nothing short of adoration. his red, rosy cheeks were pulled up in a full smile as you were airborne. something squeezed at your chest to keep going despite being so tired. twisting around once, then twice, then three times and a half, you landed like a feather on your outside opposite foot.
skating to the middle of the rink, you let your arms flow with the breeze. suddenly, you threw your head and arms back as you came to a stop with a heaving chest. the last accented note faded at the same time.
undeniably, you knew that was the best you had ever performed.
closing your eyes, you let your heart pound against your chest and the icy air caressed your skin. a shower of roses flooded the ice, along with teddy bears and other bouquets. blowing a kiss to the crowd, you waved as you skated over to where childe was.
before you could even say anything to him as you crossed over the side of the rink, childe swept you into his arms, lifting you into the air and hugging you tightly. “you did so well!” he exclaimed while peppering your cheeks with kisses. “you did so, so, so good. i love you. you did amazing.”
you became flustered at the praise. “you are so embarrassing,” you murmured as you chastely kissed his cheek. “love you too.”
as you sat down on the bench where he sat, coach jean shooed away paparazzi from your rest area. “you never cease to amaze me, y/n. you did wonderfully,” she complimented, hugging your shoulder.
“thank you, coach,” you replied, squeezing your shoulder. “that was good out there. really good.”
“i’m glad you realize that too. a few years ago, you would’ve been telling me that there was still so much work to do. you deserve good things. and this performance was a reflection of your hard work.”
thanking her again, you took a sip of your water while looking at the overhead system. your face was on the live stream as you waited for the association to come back with your scores. childe squeezed your hand tightly, perhaps even more excited to see your score than you were.
“seeing as that y/n l/n of mondstadt was the last to skate the long program, the awards ceremony will come shortly after this,” the announcers stated as the crew began rolling out the podium and carpet on top of the ice.
“bet you’ll be up there soon,” he whispered, making you laugh.
“yeah, yeah, don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” you nudged his shoulder. taking another sip of water, the newscasters came over the speaker again.
“the international association has come back with the final score for y/n l/n,” they said as you continued to hydrate. “their score is a 190--the highest in the competition today and the highest performed by a skater in teyvat’s history.”
ungracefully, you spat out your water on live television. considering you made out with your boyfriend on live television nearly three years before, you supposed it could be much worse. “holy--holy shit!” you exclaimed, jumping to your feet and looking at childe. he was already looking at you, cheeks red with excitement and freckled face grinning.
embracing you again, childe jumped up and down with you in his arms. “you did it! they did it! everyone, my partner is the best and a badass at skating!” he cheerfully cried, spinning you around in his arms. you kissed him to stop his never-ending shouting, holding his face with both hands. when you let go, you stared at him adoringly.
“we did it,” you whispered. “you and me. we did this together like you said we would.”
“i know,” he replied, ignoring the flashing lights of the media and urging the crew to get on the ice. “i’m so proud of you.”
quickly, you were escorted onto the ice. stepping on top of the podium, you looked to the v.i.p. section where the team stood. they were all over the place, running between seats in thrilled delight. waving, you smiled with pride in your chest.
you were given the silver trophy nearly half your size, along with a blocky, silver ring with the association’s logo written on it. it slid onto your hand easily. as you cradled the trophy, you looked back at childe. he was already looking at you.
no words needed to be said. you made it.
Tumblr media
history certainly liked to repeat itself.
the playoff championship for the major league was held in the arena where you had won the international trophy a few weeks prior. the seats were full of banners representing the sumeru sages and the fatui harbingers. kaeya and xiao, who were now bona fide national hockey players, cheered him on near the dasher board despite being knocked out by him in the playoffs. the rest of the team was also there, diluc sitting with his father in the premium boxes, and coach zhongli, chongyun, and xingqiu in a row near kaeya and xiao. in the corner near the dasher board was teucer, whose bright blue eyes had the same awe for his brother as when you had first met him. he waved his little fatui flag, raised high above his head as the two teams skated by. only two minutes were on the clock, and the score between the two teams was tied.
you stood near the bench, where the rest of the harbingers’ coaching staff sat. coach pierro, a gruff old man who used to play for the team itself, mulled around with his heavy jacket and clipboard. the secretive staff of the harbingers was much different from how coach zhongli trained his team.
but, childe seemed to fit in just fine. “there, with his number eleven jersey, is childe, rookie of the year, two years ago,” the overhead announcers stated, and all eyes were drawn to your boyfriend. he whizzed by you in a cold flurry, kicking up shaved ice onto your face. you frowned, but he grinned and laughed, knowing exactly what he was doing.
you clung to your shirt, which was a jersey with his name emblazoned on the back. clenching your fists, you watched him push and shove his way to possessing the puck. “c’mon, you got this,” you murmured. “use the 2-1 strategy that you practiced for only barbatos knows how many hours.”
a little over a minute was left on the clock, and you thumped your foot up and down. a buzzerbeater always made for a good show with the crowd, but for your anxiety? not so much. you worried endlessly that the championship would slip out of his hands.
as the time ticked down to thirty seconds, you shook your head. no, you never doubted his skills as a hockey player before, and this game was no different. in fact, childe was a four-time collegiate winner and was the defending champion for this game. there was no way that he didn’t win. at the very least, if he didn’t score, they would have to go into overtime.
sixteen seconds on the board and something in the air changed. the crowd got a little rowdier, and you knew this was your boyfriend’s time to shine. with the puck still in his possession, he skated for the other end where the goal was.
“come on, come on!” you shouted, pumping your fist up and down. “childe, let’s go! bring home another championship!”
as if he was able to hear you, the small black disc caught air. it soared, neatly dodging other players, and entered the goalie box. with bated breath, everyone watched the puck whiz forward.
the goalie went left, and the puck went right, hitting the white ropes of the goal net.
your eyes went wide with shock. soon after the clock buzzed, people roared with the happiness of yet another harbingers’ victory. coach pierro let out a soft laugh, clapping his hands to congratulate the team.
looking over at your boyfriend once more, he threw off his helmet and skated towards you. “we did it,” he whispered, kissing you on the forehead. “i knew we were always made for great things like this, and i’m so happy i get to experience it with you.”
“proud of you, childe. always knew you had it in you for a back-to-back championship,” you whispered, kissing his cheek.
“yeah, yeah, enough with the sappiness, it’s time to celebrate!” he hollered. taking you in his arms, he gently helped you from over the side of the rink. he skated over to the rest of the team with an arm around your waist to make sure you wouldn’t slip on the slick ice.
in a blur, he was handed a silver trophy and a silver championship ring, not unlike your own. it was encrusted with diamonds, with a logo for the hockey association in the center. he held both items close to his heart, grinning down and holding them like his firstborn child.
soon after, confetti rained down in the fatui colors. slipping the ring on his finger and moving the trophy into one hand, he chuckled over the screams of the crowd and the arena’s music. “kinda reminds me of what happened at the collegiate championship a few years ago!” he laughed, still holding you by the waist.
“really now? do you wanna recreate that moment?” you asked, placing a hand on his cheek.
somewhere in front of childe, the rest of the harbingers’ team, and yourself, someone called for a photo upfront. still smiling like a fool, you didn’t bother to pay attention.
you kissed your boyfriend messily on the lips, on live television, unashamed to make out with the one you loved more than anything. no matter what came in the future, you had one another.
Tumblr media
“i didn’t think i would find you here. you usually wait out front for me, not on the upper level of the arena,” childe said as you turned around to look at him. “also, i didn’t think you’d be so fast cleaning up after your ice skaters. the hockey team i coach for is a rowdy and messy bunch.”
“yeah, well, being a figure skater, we don’t have much equipment to pick up after practice. as a new coach and long-time ice skater, i know that” you shrugged. “but it seems you’ve finally learned how to pick up after yourself too. you never change.”
as childe walked over, you thought of how things came to be like this. recently, both you and childe decided to take some time off after your major title wins. the two of you recently bought a home in the mondstadt district of the city for the summer and fall seasons, when your sports were in their prime. when you weren’t working on ice skating, or when childe wasn’t working on offseason training, you two coached over at the national arena for junior players. nothing beat spending weekends with kids who had just landed their first toe loop spin or who just scored their first goal.
“hey, it was because those goalies are too heavy to carry in and out. doing one but not the other was just so convenient,” he pouted, standing next to you. looking forward, he let out a content sigh. “oh, so this is what you were looking at.”
you and your boyfriend had plenty of ribbons, trophies, and medals, so much so that you didn’t have any room for them in your shared home. thus, you recently donated it all to the national arena’s display cases. after both receiving some of the most coveted titles in all of ice sports history, childe and you were in the memorabilia cases for your respective events. the two silver trophies from your most recent wins earlier that summer sat next to one another on a gleaming silver pedestal. the only awards that were not on display were your silver championship rings, which the two of you wore on your hands daily. your old leotards and his jersey from his time as a teyvat star hung next to one another. there were also plenty of photos, including both times you kissed on live television. your lips quirked up at the memory.
“nothing beats looking at our display case,” childe started, placing his hands on his hips. “it serves to remind us how far we’ve come.”
“i like looking at it too,” you replied. “i used to want to be like coach jean and have my awards in a case here. now that i do, i can’t help but admire it.”
a silence settled over you two as you watched the silver metal glimmer. slowly, your hand reached for childe’s. he took it gratefully.
standing up straight, you looked at him with a smile. “well then, i believe we have a dinner reservation in the fontaine district tonight. i’m dying for some food after working so hard.”
“one second,” he interrupted, making you turn your head.
“what’s up?”
“i was just thinking,” he mused. “you know, our trophy case is just full of silver. except for your gold medal, of course. even our rings are silver.” he held up your hand for emphasis.
“i mean, most people associate ice skating with a silver color, so it makes sense,” you shrugged. “what are you getting at?”
“well, i was wondering if you’d like to add a little gold to our collection,” he said with a grin. shifting around, he shoved his hand into his back pocket. he dropped to one knee, still holding your hand.
jaw-dropping, you stared at him with widened eyes. tears welled up, and you covered your mouth before the first sobs of happiness could escape out. “no way,” you breathed. “are you…?”
“yes,” he replied, pulling out a silver box. propping open the top, a shiny, gold and diamond ring was bedded into the soft cushion. clearing his throat, he blushed slightly. “i meant to do this later when we got to the restaurant. but the timing was too right here.
“y/n, i have loved you since i watched you almost do that triple axel in the archon arena that night,” he began, but you cut him off.
“you idiot, i would’ve landed it if you weren’t there. you made me lose focus!” you said through fleeting laughter and he turned even redder in the face.
“shut up, i’m trying to propose!” he said through a fit of laughter. taking in a deep breath, he continued.
“we may have hated one another at first. i certainly did. you were always nagging me to pick up after myself after practicing on the weekends. but then you became my manager, and then my partner, and now you nag at me to do the dishes.
“when i first realized that you were more than someone i hated, i realized that you were a major part of my life. do you remember that one weekend you took off to go watch the game with barbara? i was a mess. i couldn’t find my mouthguard or my jersey or my kneepads. i was incomplete.
“and then i started noticing the little things about you more and more, especially when it came to skating. you were fast, you were concise, and you were an absolute badass. and then i noticed your personality. you were harsh but meant well. you cared about the team. you were with me every step of the way during that senior season. it wasn’t long before i fell in love with you. actually, in all honesty, i think i fell in love with you after i got that injury that landed me in the hospital and you yelled at me.”
“you dumbass, i was crying about your injury and you were falling in love with me?!”
“shhh, that’s not the point!” he whispered-laughed. “the point is, y/n l/n, my life would be much different if you weren’t here. you stabilize me. you push me to be better than my best. i fall in love with you over and over again every morning when you wake up with the worst bedhead known to man when you drop off my lunch when i forget it at home, and when you hold me and tell me it’s alright when i make a mistake or two. i am so, so, so incredibly, undeniably, and irrefutably in love with you. y/n l/n, decorated skating champion, my former manager, and my lovely partner, will you do me the greatest honor i can ask of?
“will you marry me?” he whispered looking up at you with devout eyes.
“even though you never wash your dishes, even though you’re always getting yourself injured or in trouble, even though you kiss me when you’re sweaty after a hockey game,” you started, you nodded with a smile. “you’re all i’ve ever wanted. i love you, ajax. of course, i’ll marry you.”
with an unbound excitement, he slid the ring onto your finger and both the golden band of your engagement ring and the silver championship ring collided. quickly, he kissed you passionately, cheeks and ears stained red with flustered affection. “i love you,” he whispered. “i love you, i love you, i love you. i promise to spend the rest of my life making you happy.”
“i love you. i want to make sure that you’re happy for the rest of your life too, for all of our days. forever,” you murmured, before taking him by his face and kissing him again and again.

i lied. i have one more chapter, which is the epilogue. whoops
