(Ok, maybe this is just hindsight and my raging bias against Dio talking but I do not believe this for a second. "Mr. Dio would NEVER do something like that", my goddamn foot, Cinderblock--)

I was already extremely surprised this didn't end with a ''betray'' when I first went through this but especially considering everything Dio does after this point makes this stand out to me so much more. Why "ally"? Quark may (definitely not) be joking about Dio coercing him into picking "betray" against Luna, but why didn't he actually go through with it? We know he's not above using underhanded tactics to get his way, even going as far as to potentially kill Quark and actually kill Sigma to escape. And Quark is right-- that would've been three easy points had they gone with "betray", and could've also gotten them closer to freedom. So why didn't he? And why was he so nice about it? Luna is an angel, but I can't imagine that getting Dio to think twice and play nice. Even so, I can't deny that he did seem slightly guilty about the whole thing if his nervousness and silence after this count for anything. The fact that there's anything here that could pass as guilt is already bonkers, really.

Another thing that's eating me: If Dio truly did plan to pick "betray" and Quark was telling the truth here, why did he cover for him immediately after? Quark has no reason to cover his ass at this point in time, and even if he did, why reveal that key piece of info only to play it off as a joke? You could make the arguments that Quark's just a good kid and thought better of jeopardising Dio's credibility this early on because he doesn't think of him as a bad guy (ha ha) and didn't want to hurt Luna's feelings either or that he's just being a little gremlin trying to stir the pot a little in good fun and really was just kidding, but I do wonder which one these it actually is. I think it's obvious which one I lean towards, but I'm open to expanding more on Dio despite how much I hate his despicable, cultish, unfairly attractive blond ass.
