Auradon Prep starts an online trend videoing the Isle kids doing insane stuff (Ace jumping over people on the tourney field, Jay sledding down the stairs, Riah doing bungee trapeze, etc) with audio from My Chemical Romance's "Teenagers" ("Teenager scare the living shit out of me") over it. It starts a trend and spawns a parody replacing "Teenagers" with "Isle kids"

The reason why Riah's amulet is enchanted to not let him take it off it because he's been wearing the amulet since he was around three. He was old enough not to choke on it but not old enough to understand why he could never take it off for any reason, so Hades had to enchant it to keep him from taking it off to examine it. The spell can't be removed without risking problems with the life-saving spell, so it's just still there

"So," Evie, ever the diplomat, started. Mal was glaring daggers at Riah and Riah looked confused beyond belief. If conversation didn't start soon, she was genuinely worried Mal would lunge at him. "A lot happened last night that I think we need to discuss. Does anyone want to start?"

"I'll start." Evie barely hid a wince as Mal spoke. She sounded like she was itching for a fight. "I caught fire and there's only one villain on the Isle who has a habit of doing that, a villain whose adopted kid is sitting right there and who never told me that I'm probably related to the god of the fucking dead."

"He's your dad," Riah responded, confusion only getting worse. "Why are you so upset?"

"Why am I upset?" Oh gods, Mal sounded ready to murder him. "Because I found out that my father, who fucked off when I was a baby, apparently had enough room in his heart to adopt a kid and have two more but never even bothered to say hi, sorry I abandoned you with your mother, and that apparently that adopted kid knew the answer to my life's biggest mystery and kept that shit to himself for no fucking reason! Why wouldn't I be-"

"Hold up," Riah held up a hand, cutting her off, "You think- Mal, what makes you think... gods above and below, there's so much wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to start."

"Well, you'd better start somewhere because you've got a lot of explaining to do, you son of a bitch."

"Number one, don't you dare talk about Hades or Persephone like that," Riah snapped, getting to his feet to meet Mal's glare with one of his own. "Number two, exactly what makes you think Dad didn't want you? Dad misses you so much no one in our house even mentions you unless he starts that conversation, because it depresses him that he can't have a relationship with you like he desperately wants to have with all of his kids. He's got your name tattooed same as the rest of us, and he's got your name on the list he keeps in his pocket, right over his heart, same as he's got mine, Hara's, Cora's, Selah's, Nico's, and all the other ones. He misses you just like he misses your sisters and half-sisters, even though he won't say it. You wanna know why Dad isn't in your life even though he'd give up his title as a god for even a chance at it? Your mom wouldn't let him!

"Fuck if I know all the details because Dad doesn't dump his problems on us, but your mom hates him even though he's the best dad in the world. She's put every effort into keeping him away from you because she knows he loves you, and she doesn't want him to turn you soft. And before you go and suggest he should've done something suicidal like try to be in your life anyway, no, absolutely not. She keeps doing something to him, summons him out of the caverns every few months and... I don't know, tortures him or some shit, just to reinforce that she'll make his life hell if he tries to be in your life! The one time, the one time, he tried to get you away from her, that was three days before my eleventh birthday. You wanna know how she retaliated?" He pulled up the leg of his pyjamas, showing the scarred skin and deformation of his left calf, scars and injury she knew had nothing on his thigh. "Yeah, she summoned him away and then sent six of her grown men to go to my house, lock my mom and brother in a room, and torture me for hours before trying to fucking beat me to death while Hara, Mom, and Claudine could hear everything! She threatened to do the same thing to you in front of him if he ever tried that shit again, and this time you wouldn't be as lucky as I was. She would torture you to death to keep you from having a relationship with him.

"As for why Dad went and adopted a kid rather than raise you, that, like everything else, is also your mom's fault. He found me three months premature, nearly dead in a cardboard box on the street like garbage, while he was still with her. He was the one who nursed me back to health, helped me survive those first months. Then your mom gave him an ultimatum, that if he wanted to stay with her he had to dump me back on the streets and leave me to die. And he wasn't heartless, he wasn't going to kill me, so he dumped her abusive ass and took me AND you into the caverns to try and raise us! But then your mother found out where he was and threatened to torture me to death and punish you if he didn't give you back to her, and what the fuck else was he supposed to do? He didn't have any options there, it was either give you back and know you'd live or lose me completely and run a MASSIVE risk of losing you, too, because he knew your mother was the type who would. So he gave you back, and he was forbidden from having a relationship with you or else I would die like Cora, or you would die like Ire and Malice-"

"Don't you fucking dare say their names!" Mal snarled. No one was allowed to say the names of her dead sisters, not even her crew. "You don't get-"

"WHY NOT?!" Riah was shouting, "They're my sisters, too! I love them just like you do, I love them just like I love Hara, Cora, and Selah, and I love them just like I love you! Because the three of you are my sisters, because Dad loves you just like he loves me and Hara, and because we're supposed to be a family!" He paused, forcing himself to take a deep breath as he shook, whether from grief or anger no one, not even him, could tell. After an eternity of silence, with Mal still speechless, he continued. "We're supposed to be a family, Mal. It's supposed to me Dad, Mom, Cora, you, Ire, Malice, me, Hara, and Selah. But your mom destroyed that. Four of us are dead, I'm crippled, Hara's traumatized, Dad's lost everything, and Mom comes back every autumn genuinely terrified she's going to get the news that one of us kids- and that means me, Hara, or you- is dead or dying... We were supposed to be a family.

"Dad talked about you once, you know," the switch of topics seemed to throw everyone in the room through a loop. Vaguely, Evie realized that the rest of them probably should have left a while ago to let the two of them work through this in privacy, but it was too late now. "It was when we were thirteen. He was in the market, getting some clothes to fix up for me and Hara, when something happened. He didn't get the context of the situation, but he heard an adult call Jay a... a really mean word, and he saw that adult reach for Jay and Jay was just frozen, but you stopped her. It was like you'd appeared out of thin air. Suddenly, you were just there, right between that woman and Jay, grabbing her arm and twisting it. You told her never to call Jay that ever again, and never to even look in his general direction ever again, and then you beat the fuck out of her like it was easy. When you were done, you turned to Jay and made sure he was okay, then challenged the entire bazaar, telling them that if anyone else had any thought about touching what was yours without his consent, she would do far worse. He was your second, and you weren't going to allow anyone to touch him without his permission. He told us all how incredible you did it. That you looked so powerful, almost regal. You protected Jay no questions asked, protected him against someone so much older and bigger than you like it was easy. And then you stuck up for your second and challenged the entire bazaar, made it clear that you stood with him and that his consent mattered to you, so you would hurt anyone who violated it. Jay had seemed so comfortable with you even with what happened. Like he knew he was safe with you without a doubt. Dad went on and on about how safe Jay seemed to feel with you near, how well you protected him and how much you seemed to love him. He was so damn proud of you, Mal. That's our girl, he kept saying to Mom. That's our little girl!"

Mal stepped back, dumbstruck. All of her life she'd assumed her father hadn't cared about her, but he... fuck.

"I couldn't wait to meet you, Mal. I always asked Uma and Diego about you, I wanted to know you so bad. I've always wanted a sister, and I know Hara wishes he could have one who he doesn't need to die to meet. We all want you, Mal. Me, Hara, Mom, Dad, we all want you in our family. We have all always wanted you." He sighed. " I know it doesn't fix anything, but-"

Riah gasped in surprise as Mal slammed into him, hugging him hard. Even with his arms pinned to his sides he tried to hug her back.

It took a long time for Mal to pull away. If any of them noticed the way her eyes were glittering, thay weren't going to mention it. She punched Riah on the shoulder- not enough to hurt or even throw him off-balance, just enough to prove a point. "Fuck you for making me cry."

Riah smiled, risking a hand to her horns to reach out and mess up her hair. "Love you too, sis."

Auradon keeps trying to force their transphobia on Riah and it is just not working. "I'm a demon, not a human, and demons have completely different ideas of gender and sex. You can't force me to conform to gender shit that wasn't even created by my species or with my species in mind. Being trans is completely normal and accepted in demon culture. Get off my dick."

They can't really argue that (don't know much about demon culture) and it's driving them insane

Evie is the only one of the Core 4 who'd seen Riah before the proclamation, because he was there when her mother tried to carve out her heart. Persephone was in Auradon so Hades had brought Hadie and Riah with him to help Evie because there was no way in Hell he was leaving them home alone. She only saw him for a second and, because she never saw him again and no one seemed to recognize her description of "the boy with the black hair and red eyes," so she thought he was just a figment of her imagination, that the blood loss and terror had made her hallucinate.

She's very surprised that he's actually real.

It was Isle instinct that woke Jay in the middle of the night, a heavy sense of dread filling his stomach. He rolled to sit instantly, jostling Mal in the process. She sat bolt upright.

She felt it, too.

"Check on Riah, I've got the others." With a nod, Jay got to his feet silently and went to the enchanted wardrobe. His heart was in his throat and every instinct screamed at him to turn and run as he opened the door, but he refused to listen. If his instincts were right, Claudine and Riah needed help. There was no way in hell he was going to abandon them.

The sight of a large, shadowed figure with glowing red eyes- so similar to Riah's but so different- nearly made Jay take a step back. But the sight of a syringe in its hand as it leaned over Riah snapped him straight into fight mode.

"Mal!" He shouted as his foot made contact with its wrist, sending the syringe flying. He should have used his element of surprise to aim the kick to its neck, but he didn't want to risk whatever the hell was in that syringe ending up in Riah. The shout woke Claudine, who instantly shot out of bed and tried to wake Riah. But fuck, he barely stirred. Jay punched the shadow in the jaw, satisfied when the blow made it stagger. He felt something in his fist give under the blow, but he didn't care. "What the fuck did you do to him?!"

He launched into a flying roundhouse, the shadow managing to keep the blow from colliding with its throat by sacrificing its arm instead. But Jay hooked his leg around its neck, using the leverage to bring his other leg to do the same, choking the shadow as he slammed an elbow down onto its face, right where its nose probably was. The shadow tried to rip him off but Jay grabbed the hand on his thigh before it could, twisting in a way he knew would pull its fingers out of their sockets. He shifted his weight hard, sending both of them toppling, and managed to force the shadow's head to collide with the hardwood floor with a a sickening crunch. Jay was on top of it in an instant as he heard its bones mending- oh fuck, it had a healing ability- pulling out his knife and burying it in its torso again and again.

A moment of distraction cost him his advantage as the others raced in. In his half-second hesitation, the shadow managed to throw him off and get to its feet. He saw those horrifying eyes assess him and the other three, then Claudine, and then decide that whatever it had been about to do wasn't worth it. In a blinding flash, it vanished, leaving them in darkness.

"Jay," Mal's voice was severe and tight, "What the fuck was that?"

Riah- two worst fears. The larger of the two is his power hurting or killing someone who doesn't deserve to be killed. The second one is anything happening to Hadie, intersecting with the first in that Riah is terrified he might accidentally hurt or kill Hadie. His most minor used to be his biggest fear, that his birth parents would come and take him away from Hades and Persephone. He used to have wake-up-screaming nightmares a severe panic attacks over this but, after Hades and Persephone spent a decade promising they would never let that happen, it's faded into the background. It's come back now that he's far away from his parents and they wouldn't know if his birth parents came for him, but it's a minor anxiety that he only thinks about when he's really spiraling. He recognizes that this one is irrational.

Jay- he also has two worst fears, one ever-changing and one staying the same since he was a child. The changing one always has to do with his father- what if his father does xyz? It was, up until his brief talk with Lydia, "What if my father finds out I sell myself?" Now it's "What is my father going to do to punish me?" Jafar has also threatened to hurt Evie or Carlos in the past to punish Jay, but now there's also Riah and Claudine and Jafar could definitely kill them, they don't have the same backing that Evie and Carlos have, not that Jafar knows. The permanent fear is "What if someone cuts off my hands?" It's a common punishment for thieves on the Isle and Jay is terrified of that happening to him. What would Jafar do to him if he couldn't steal? Death would be the best outcome and Allah, that's depressing. His most minor fear is Ace or Mischa Rasputin dying. They both mean a great deal to him but they're also both extremely hard to kill and unlikely to die anytime soon, so he's not too worried about that.

Mal- her worst fear is her mother hurting the people she cares about. It's happened before time and time again, but that doesn't mean Mal's desensitized to it. Her most minor fear, which should say a lot about the weight she has on her shoulders, is that her mother or someone else will kill her. And this point, it's barely a worry and almost a "Kill me, make my day" thing. The only thing she wouldn't like about being killed is the hell it'll send her section of the Isle into and the chaos it'll throw the politics of the Isle into.

Evie- her worst fear is her mother deciding to disregard her "marriage" to Ace and the fact that it "owns" her and her mother will sell her to someone else. Someone who isn't a gay CSA survivor, who would be all too happy to buy a sex slave. Her most minor fear? Probably Sykes trying to kill Agony again. It's always a possibility, but Want kind of eviscerated him for four hours the last time he tried, so he's probably unlikely to try again. Probably.

Carlos- his worst fear is always his mother. Her being within a mile of him is his greatest fear. His most minor fear, which should tell you a lot about how intense his other fears are, is his fear of dogs. Lydia (dog) can stay because if she's not a threat to Riah then she's probably not a threat to him (also he has several knives and Jay also has several knives,) at least for now, but she's on thin fucking ice.

Claudine- her worst fear is that Hades lied to her about "Oh, Jesus and Jehova? Yeah, they're both fine. Having Jesus around really got Jireh to chill out and the only people Jesus has a problem with are capitalists and totalitarians. Trust me, those two aren't gonna damn you to "Hell," which is, by the way, entirely controlled by me, who is not gonna send you to eternal damnation, for just existing as a human being." She worries he's lying about the two being forgiving and that, when she stands before them for her judgement, they'll be disgusted and cast her into Hell for all eternity. That's her biggest fear. Her most minor fear is her father will die, because she'll be relieved and that would be horrible of her. It'll make her an even more sinful monster for not honoring him. But he's currently immortal so this isn't high on her list of things that need worried about.

"What colour was your hair? Originally, I mean," Evie couldn't help but wonder, winding one of Riah's black curls around her finger as she gave him a break from hair and makeup. Riah gave her a strange look. "In your dream, your hair was lighter, almost dark brown. I was just wondering- if your black hair is a magical colour, like mine or Mal's, you would've been born with a different colour before it started darkening. I was just curious."

"Dad said it was reddish." Riah wrinkled his nose. A redhead made so much sense. She didn't get why he seemed to dislike the idea so much. Red hair was so unique, so beautiful. She wondered if he's been born with his red eyes, like Mal with her green, or if he's gotten them later like Jay with his gold her her with her lavender. What colour would his eyes have been? She couldn't see him having blue or green, not even grey. If she had to guess, he would have had a dark brown, nearly black. "Kind of a mix between strawberry blond and red, he said it was kind of a pinkish colour. Then it darkened a lot over the next few days, to charcoal. It went pitch black when I turned thirteen."

That made sense. Molly's hair was still a soft charcoal colour. Maybe, like everything else, that changed for the three once they hit thirteen. Maybe cos hair would be as dark as Riah's and Mara's.

"What colour was yours?" He must have been watching her in the mirror, because he laughed when she grimaced at the question. "Oh, come on. It can't be worse than strawberry blond."

Oh, it could be. "It was brown. Dark brown, almost black." Her mother had hated her hair. It had been unremarkable, according to Grimhilde. Not light enough to have a golden highlight but not dark enough to challenge Snow White. Had Evie's hair not lightened into her signature blue, she knew her mother would have forced her to dye it to a more interesting colour. "It's been steadily getting bluer as I've grown, thank the gods."

Riah tilted his head. "Brown... I can see you with brown. It would make your eyes pop so much."

She supposed it would, but still... "I prefer blue."

"I think the blue looks beautiful on you," Riah smiled, turning so that he could really look at her. Already she could tell that smile would be one that would always melt her heart, just like Jay's shy, sweet smiles whenever he paid her a genuine compliment. "Though I think you'd look just as beautiful with brown hair. Brown, black, blue- hell, even green. I think you could rock any hair colour the world could've thrown at you, and none of them would have made you any less pretty."

When she glanced back to the mirror, it was to see her hair had turned a dark brown. Her makeup had changed, her clothes were a darker blue with a brighter red, and he was right. She would have looked pretty awesome with brown hair. He let the illusion down and she realized she was smiling right along side him.

Gods, this boy was going to be the death of her.
