I've seen a lot of (usually white) feminists talk about how western/European women should also replicate/do '4B' as well just as Korean women have -without recognizing or understanding the context with which 4B arose.
The current very right-wing South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, is very much responsible for continuing to put the health, well-being, as well as safety of Korean women at risk. Whether it be through him vehemently stating gender discrimination no longer exists to attempting to abolish the ONLY organizing that focuses on supporting women -the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
He has also only added a handful of women into his cabinet AFTER he was criticized for not having done so in the first place. When he was elected back in 2022, my solidarity has and will always remain with women and folks who experience marginalization in South Korea, such as those in the LGBTQIA+ and disability community, among many. I will, nor should NO ONE ever forget how this man campaigned/how he was elected in mass by misogynistic men.
President Yoon Suk Yeol also remarked about creating incentives for MEN by lowering their mandatory military service if they have more children with their wives... needless to say, 4B is specific to the lived experiences and realities of living under patriarchy in South Korea in many elements of her daily life. I stumbled on this video on my fyp, and this Creator gives SO much great context to 4B, and for those who can watch/listen I highly recommend this video as a start to understanding Korean feminism.

A massive anti-US rally was held in Seoul on August 13th 2022. The participants demanded the South Korean government stop the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises scheduled for this month, and called for the dissolution of the SK-U.S. alliance and the withdrawal of US forces in S.Korea.
Yang Kyung-soo, chief of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), a major umbrella labor union of South Korea, said at the protest rally that staging military exercises in preparation for a war is tantamount to intending to wage a war, according to local newspaper Chosun Ilbo.

Why did Yoon's party lose in South Korea's elections and what troubles does he face now?
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean voters have handed liberals extended opposition control of parliament in what looks like a massive political setback to conservative President Yoon Suk Yeol. Some experts say the results of Wednesday’s parliamentary elections make Yoon “a lame duck” — or even “a dead duck” — for his remaining three years in office. Others disagree, saying Yoon still has many…

South Korea’s liberal opposition parties win by landslide margin
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has vowed to make changes to his conservative administration after opposition parties won Wednesday’s National Assembly elections, South Korean media reported.
The Democratic Party (DP) is projected to win 175 of the 300 seats in the new assembly, according to the National Election Commission and network broadcasters, after all votes are counted.
The breakaway Liberal Party, considered allied to the DP, is projected to win 12 seats, leaving the bloc short of the 200 seats needed for a supermajority. Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) was expected to win 108 seats. The official announcement of the results is due later on Thursday.
DP leader Lee Jae-myung, who campaigned vigorously against Yoon, said the top priority now is to work for an economic recovery that will be felt by the average consumer. DP leader Lee Jae-myung said:
“When voters chose me, it was your judgement against the Yoon Suk Yeol administration and you are giving the Democratic Party the duty to take responsibility for the livelihood of the people and create a better society.”

This year, the monsoon season in South Korea has been catastrophic. The rain has come down in sheets, flooding the streets and overwhelming the drainage systems. The people of Seoul have been forced to take refuge on the rooftops of their homes, or huddle in the upper floors as the water rises around them. The death toll is mounting, and there seems to be no end to the rain in sight. Some say that this is a sign of the end times, that the floods are a punishment from God for the sins of the people. Others say that it is nature's way of cleansing the land, of washing away the corruption and greed that has taken hold of Seoul. Whatever the reason, the people of South Korea are in the midst of a devastating natural disaster, and there seems to be no way to stop it.

South Koreans grow younger overnight
A new law recognizes the international way of counting age By Toni Mitchell Photo credit/Depositphotos eXpress News&Views — As an adult, wouldn’t it be nice to wake up a year or two younger? Well, that’s precisely what happened to millions of South Koreans thanks to a new law that took effect June 28, that essentially retired an old age-counting method that made people a year or two older…
