Looks at ARR Laehbrea, looks at Elpis Leahbrea, Looks at Thancred, looks at Pandaemonium in the Sea. SIGH. Possessing Thancred wasnt a chore it was like finding like. Both Duty bound men who love and care for their child but have the communication skills of a behemoth, No I take that back the Behemoth has better. My money is on us finding out Laehbrea we know from ARR is actually his soul split and the real one is in Pand holding Athena back all this time.

And yeah, I said in another post here that they both handle things by NOT dealing with their issues and traumas and losses, locking those feelings away behind a stoic, sarcastic demeanor, and not knowing how to talk to or positively influence their kid, somehow deciding that by not talking and letting said kid come up with their own assumptions, that's the better way.

Tear my hair out. Aeryn was very much eye-twitching.

(I still haven't decided what/how/why/etc I am fitting Pandaemonium into her timeline but man oh man...).

And yeah; I don't think he's going to get around to destroying that Crystal. He may end up having to reintegrate both sides (for this raid? For the Final Days? For the Sundering?) or something happens and H is loosened. Either way, the man we met in ARR and HW certainly acted more dramatic than this calm, controlled Dad. But then, A Lot happened between Panda and ARR for him...

Also even WoL caught that hesitation during the story; there's more yet he still hasn't said about the family history. Though it also seems this is where the idea of Ascian Prime came from to begin with. Even Themis was shocked.

The overarching villain here actually seems to be Athena, as her plans aren't done--and I'm not so sure she is, either. And given that cliffhanger...

It's just an agonizing 8 months of speculation and waiting meanwhile. I'm not even a big Ancients/Ascians fan, but am enjoying the Panda story, and am glad that so far these characters' last hurrah seems to be a real good doozy of one.

Yeah Byl has already given up on these people. She struggled with but ultimately could accept that there couldn’t be peace between the sundered and the Ascians, she could at least understand why Emet-Selch and Elidibus refused to compromise, but the Garleans are just stupid.

If they’d rather kill themselves than accept help from the “lesser races”, Byl doesn’t see any reason to stop them. They claim to be so oppressed, so discriminated against, but from where she’s standing they seem determined to make people hate them. She had reservations about even trying to help the Garlean survivors before the Ilsabard Contingent arrived and so far she’s only been proven right.

ffxiv 5.0 spoilers. where light does not reach

ardbert and emy have a lot of parallels. Both are ghosts in some sense, remnants of time past. They are both existences that should no longer be but are still here, bound to tasks not yet complete. Both are weary but unable to rest, like seriously the two most depressed characters in shb and they both give depression monologues. Both have failed their duties somehow. They continue on, they have work to be done, their role not yet finished. I wonder if emy could see ardbert or not.

interesting that y'shtola posits sentiment is why emet selch chose the tempest instead of the say practicality, it's the darkest place on novrant.

grenoldt. suspiciously similar name. also how did he get down here. the two minmaxed hair. what. that's why the role quests are needed, to show him a crystal. not because taking down the cardinal virtues helped the main meta. imagine not having done them and taking a 3 hour detour to do a wod story.

so the trench was empty last week? like given how near by it is i'd assume the ondo would know if it had been there. emy poofed a city into existence overnight.

amurot would be a lot more effective if everything wasn't already huge in ffxiv. literally everything from architecture to furniture is 1.5-5x the normal size anyway. so the fact that amurot is made for giants doesn't really come across. then there's how originally in 1.0 hyur were made to be the medium sized race but then like every race afterwards is bigger so now middies just feel small which also diminishes the effect of amurot.

a memory frozen in time. more ghosts. shb really is the ghost expansion. lingering lonely remnants of the past.

what are cubus, why do they have so much aether also rather concerning you want a small child to go fight things.

i like amurot.

creation gone awry, nightmares made real. it's like they could no longer control what they created, stray thoughts and fears made manifest.

we finally get an explanation on primals. the massive aether cost and the making of something just just aether. and why primals can be anything. i like the development over expansions from primals are summoned gods through prayer to people can turn themselves into primals to it doesn't need to be a prayer just a strong emotion or desire and a lot of crystals even from a child's anguish. to oops we put some artifacts together woopsie that's a primal i guess to whatever the hell zenos did. now that i think of it there haven't been any primals in 5.0.

in 1.0 the echo was literally living memory. like the echo segments were playable and dream and reality past and present blended seamlessly. this scene reminds me of that where hythlodeaus seems to interrupt an echo but we're in a recreation of a city of the past so this feels like one of thos 1.0 echos.

so lost control of creation magic. and the whole world is consumed with every problem imaginable. lot of people die. half sacrifice themselves to create zodiark. half of the remaining again to make the world habitable again. and then the plan is to foster life on the planet and then sacrifice it to revive the people originally sacrificed. the people who disagreed sacrificed themselves to make hydaelyn.

the rejoining oh yeah we still haven't gotten to the part of the story where everything gets sundered into 14 pieces. oh right the timetravel why didn't the ascians do that. i wonder if the writers thought of the parallel between emet selch and crystal exarch. both sought to revert the world to it's former state through sacrifice. the exarch's story is painted in tones of hope, but emet-selch's is not portrayed nearly as positively. did all those in the 8th calamity timeline die if this current timeline exists? Do all the people of the current shards die or even have lived at all if the ascians return the world to the way it was with all the original unsundered people which the sundered live on it?

Also. Only 3 sidequests? What shocking restraint!

The "villain" of Athena's plotting, and a "villain" of the Convocation way back when. Poor guy could never win, no wonder these are the feelings his soul "infects" Reksh with.

No Moral Compass You are cold, analytical, and you strive to be as objective as a person of flesh and blood can be. Either don't understand the concepts of good and evil, or you understand it perfectly and think it's a load of bull. Some may call you selfish, some may call you unfeeling, but you're just doing what you believe will yield the best results, plain and simple. Why bother with petty ideals of right or wrong when you can do what will actively help those you give a fuck about? Your goals may be selfish or noble or anything in between, but you will not let anyone make you feel like garbage for going after them. You couldn't care less about what people brand you as. You just care about getting shit done by any means necessary.

Scarily enough, that's kinda how she's been operating the MSQ.

Much as this patch is good in general, this tower asking felt like a double beat? Doing it in Garlemald made sense, and people here are more sensible and prone to agree with the Warrior. It could have been shorter or just a PSA from the major.

I would have rather gotten to hear what Zero heard of us, and hear more of the First's experiences that parallel the Thirteenth

It is sweet and interesting that Y'sthola is set to keep her bond with the Nights' Blessed despite her claims to be an ever hungry scholar. Wouldn't you need to have no roots to seek knowledge everywhere? I feel exploring why she feels so at home with the Night's Blessed is something that could be done for her but, we haven't gotten much introspection for her at all

And pulling the carrot umbrella for this funny line about Zero killed me

Joke aside, GOD THIS DUNGEON REMINDED ME EXACTLY WHAT MADE SHADOWBRINGER SO STELLAR!! The ingame echo but for everyone? The urgency of the city? The seemingly simple mechanics killing me short to running out of time whicch is why I have no pictures, Golbez' human form having the best m hairstyle in the game, the desperation and fall of humans under chaos folstered by forces way beyond their understanding? and THOSE DARKNESS WINGS??????? I want to know more about memoria so baaaaaaaaad

The fact that Golbez was tricked into truly believing he was saving his world from an ongoing larger tragedy, and that it's a Watcher who keeps Balance of Shards in check... man is the Watcher himself sundered then? Much as Nemi still resents him for what he's done to Azdaja, but his desperation reflects how much the Ascians' cruelty tied everyone's hands. Of course he's acting differently now that he knows another way exists, one that wouldn't exist if not for the longer struggled of the Source up to the rewritten Eight Umbral Calamity...

I have no screencaps for the sequence, but I will say I loved everything except, not getting to quite hear Zero's friendship-no-jutsu with Golbez directly. It's just funny Nemi struggled like that while the gang was having a deep anime moment and the resolution was very satisfying, specially with Vrtra sacrificing literal half of his great power as a dragon to heal his traumatized sister, returning the care she gave him as a dragonet

YOU ARE SO SMALLL BUT ALSO TOO SMALL FOR WOLDRAGON YURI POTENTIAL. AGHHH

Also, the scene were everyone gave wol a ton of praises was uncharacteristic I'm so sorry,. Who wrote that lol

This is an anti-Hydaelyn rant, because I have a lot of feelings.

So I'm talking to my friend and we're on the topic of the Final Days. This is a topic that often comes up between us.

We have often said we felt Hydaelyn was wrong. She was wrong to sunder us, and Her idea that we should run and never look back--an idea even Venat thought absurd--was senseless, because the Final Days had been going on for 12 thousand years by this point. Every other world out there was dead, and now it had come to Etheirys. We would be leaving the tidepool for the ocean, as it were. The Final Days would get us within hours of leaving, days at most. It wasn't a viable solution. There was never any other answer than to defeat the Meteia.

Which brings me to the Forum (Fourchenault's) stubborn arrogance. Because Fourchenault and those like him saw the Scions as warmongers who only ever fought and never did diplomacy or find non-violent ways of doing things, they barred us from essential information until it was almost too late to save anyone and because of their delaying, people died who didn't need to die. Because Hydaelyn put it in their heads that flight was the only option, they didn't consider another course.

Why? Why did Venat put enough faith in us to follow the future we came from, but not believe we could fight the Meteia? Why did She tear our souls apart, intending for us to remain 1/14'th of our full selves forever, and not believe in us at the last?

Just consider that. Whether we needed to be sundered and sensitive to dynamis or not (which I also disagree with, but that's another rant) She didn't want any of the rejoinings. She speaks of them as failures. Is that why She only considered flight? Because She realized She might have made a mistake by sundering us and thought we might be too weak to fight the Meteia?

I only forgave Hydaelyn because the narrative forced me to. As far as I'm concerned, She was just as much a villain as the Ascians. She tore our souls apart and made a world of misery because her society was so bad at managing suffering, thinking somehow that it would make us strong. Maybe She was even right about that, and obviously the game's narrative only allows for so much freedom, but for my WoL it was a strength born of rage and fury.

So yeah, between Hydaelyn only considering flight which would have ended in death anyway and the Forum being so sure of this course of action that they caused people's souls to be--presumably--obliterated because of how long they kept vital information from the Scions, I was pretty angry by the end. Zenos sure got to take advantage of that to be sure, but....well let's just say that my WoL had some very harsh words for the Forum when all was said and done.

Originally Jyak'a was suppose to be yeeted to First and the Crystal Tower was one of the keys for his returns. By the time I got to Ultima Thule. A number of conditions were met along the way by Elidibus, Hydealyn, Zodiark, the Uncoiling and Meteion. There was no need to take the original route when Meteion and some Hydealyn, Emet and Azem handwaving offered a less complicated shortcut. Poor guy's problem pretty much started off as being caught by accident. Not quite Musashi but yeah.

Seriously looking a gift chocobo in the mouth? Would there be consequences? I don't know. Is not planned that far. Accept the here and now for now.

Interestingly enough playing Fate Grand Order which share certain Ascian theme somehow in reverse to what Emet does, gives rise to the question as to whether or not the original world will come back. Japan side of the game(NA is two years behind because translation/server release) had hit Lostbelt 6. It gave birth to more questions instead.

Especially what makes Kirschtaria and Varis so sure that the completed Lostbelt/rejoined world would grant them what they want? Would they still be themselves? How would you know if you're the main self if sundered? What if other shard you is happy with their lives and fight back against the rejoining?

RABBIT’S FOOT. yeah ! first of all silver queen was originally a small thing, never meant to be rather large so clem could keep her around at all times without having to really dispel her but . . just like her master being full of surprises: she grew larger, akin to a giant chinchilla breed of rabbit in real life lmao, and while she can be altered to be smaller she gains a temper if she is kept small for a long time.

secondly, silver queen is first and foremost an emotional support concept for clementine which most likely brings up questions to some ancients that don’t understand why she would need such a thing. hermes and clementine have an understanding of sorts when it comes to this sort of thing but yeah. silver queen does respond to others needing support and affection by sitting on them and demanding pets ty.

during the final days and clementine’s last moments she summoned silver queen to her side for comfort, the concept being tied to her aether and life would be able to feel that she was slipping away would ‘ cry ‘ and curl up in her lap. even though she was alone she had a friend before the sundering came about.

ascian crysanthe has silver queen but with her being splintered, silver queen is also kinda buckwild. she’s not as affectionate or close to crysth like she used to be and often straight up bites.

Pre sundering all of my muses would be open to a positive relationship. For my Azem Harmonia, it would be that of a friend/mentor. For Hadianna, it would likely be some form of aunt. Emet would likely look at her as a friend/acquaintance unless we built the relationship up into more than that.

Post sundering it would very much become not positive. My Azem already thought that one primal was too many and then Venat decided they needed another one. Symphony, who is the WoL version of Harmonia, finds her to be incredibly shady. And, like yeah, the Ascians are shady, but they are pronounced in their shadiness, whereas Venat is not. Emet it's very obvious why he doesn't like her post sundering. There is a lot of trauma there for him since she left him unsundered on purpose. For Hadianna its a bit more complicated as Emet is here dad. She might be able to forgive Venat and then she might not.

Y'shtola has collapsed! But before I can aid her I must deal with Elidibus, who has taken this opportunity to confront me alone.

Another of Elidibus' fragmentary memories… He seems lost, adrift. There's definitely something drastic wrong with his memory. And is that... the original Warrior of Light!? Was he another victim of Elidibus' body-snatching? It certainly looks like it.

Yeah, I really should have expected that. Of course you're going to kidnap one of my friends and hold their safety over me. Alright. What is it you want me to do?

Fight you? Ohoho. Is it that time already? Excellent. Can do. You really didn't need to steal Y'shtola for that.

Wait. It's not a trial? And we're back in Amaurot...

Oh no oh no I have such a bad feeling about this. And it's playing the music that makes me cry.

Nonononono... Fuck you, Elidibus. Sincerely, fuck you.

This whole sequence was very difficult to take screenshots of. Between the crying and cursing and just general fuglyness of the UI being visible I missed a great many of Elidibus' lines. The ones I did catch though... I mean, the experience actually playing the duty is completely different from looking back at it. While playing through it I was too overcome with emotions to actually think about what it was saying. If Elidibus wanted to make me hate him, this was a damn fine way to do it. I hated him, I loathed him, I promised I would kill him and make it hurt like he was hurting me.

And I admit, there were a lot of his remarks that hit close to home.

For indeed, it was not the righteousness of my cause, but rather a desire to meet vengeance upon my enemies that compelled me to fight. They were my enemies because they hurt or threatened to hurt those I considered mine. Even now, my feelings towards Elidibus are driven by anger at the emotional pain he inflicted on me, his plans for the world a secondary concern.

I understand what you are trying to tell me. I have stolen from you both your comrades in arms and the hope you shared for the restoration of your people, your world.

Very well, Elidibus. You have made me feel like the monster I truly am. Prepare yourself, because I will not hold back.

He's a part of Zodiark. Somehow separated from the whole - presumably before the sundering? Wait, if he became Zodiark's heart - and I'm assuming that's meant as-in "soul" not the literal part of the circulatory system - then doesn't that mean Elidibus basically is Zodiark, the being? Minus the raw power perhaps, but the mind certainly?

We are misshapen fragments of what we used to be. And Elidibus has seen the worst of us. Little wonder that the Ascians judge us unworthy.

He doesn't. I've seen it myself; he's forgotten everything but his duty.

Ooohh. Is that why? He... lost his sense of self in becoming Zodiark, and now doesn't remember who he used to be?

Caught Red Handed

Here is a fic that I wrote some time ago. Hope you all enjoy maybe now I will finish part two.

She had been passing through a passage that forked when she felt it. The path ran right along the perimeter of the throne room. Symphony pressed her plump lips together as she looked between the two routes before her. One would lead her to safety, and the other to a space that lay right below the throne. It was a good spot for listening in on whatever was going on. There were no spaces on the front for one to see, so she should be decently safe. The one most likely to see her was someone she would not mind seeing. What would he do to her? She wondered as she licked her lips.

[[MORE]] Perhaps too eager to find out, she headed down the passage that would take her to the space under the throne. A shiver moved through her as his energy enveloped her. It had been a long time since she had felt it, and a part of her had missed it dearly. The swirling purple power was like a soothing balm and made her feel safe. With him, she knew she would always be loved and cherished no matter what. It was one of his promises to her, and she knew he would never break it.

As she neared the crawl space, she heard his voice above her. A small step allowed one's head to fill the small space beneath the throne. As she looked through the tiny crack that lay in the back of the throne, she was met with the sight of his boots. Symphony swallowed and knew she would have to be quiet as she listened to this. She knew that Varis had taken over as emperor not long ago. How fared his relationship with his grandson now? It was still good when she was alive, but a lot could have happened in the 20 years after the end of that life.

“ I should be the one to sigh.” There was a shiver that moved through her as he spoke. It was so few words, but he was likely just getting started. Symphony watched as his boots disappeared from view. Hades could be long-winded and though grumpy, was often very dramatic. “ I played my part to perfection. I had earned my rest. And then, thanks to Lehabrea’s crowning act of idiocy, our favorite emissary sees fit to summon me back.”

Played his part? Her eyes closed as her anxiety sparked, and her arms wrapped around herself. Had it all been a lie? No, no, if it had been a lie, he would have never revealed himself to her. She would still be in the dark about his true name and everything else. It wasn’t a lie. He would never do that to her. He must have meant after her death. It became just another part to play after her death. Yeah, that was it. That had to be it.

“ Elidibus was ever a worrier. A most tiresome trait, would you not agree?” Symphony continued to listen as she managed to get her anxiety in check. Why did she feel this conversation would leave her with so many doubts? How many of them would he confirm later? No, there wouldn’t be any to ensure. She was precious to him. They had been together since before the sundering.

There was a long pause, and she could hear footfalls. When they stopped, she held her breath for a moment. Why was all of this so tense? Sure, it was jarring finding out that your grandfather was an Ascian, but this felt like more than that. Had their relationship deteriorated that much since her death? She supposed it was possible if he shut down as he almost had when their son died. Symphony knew she was the only reason he hadn’t shut down, mostly because she refused to let him.

“ What, have you no words for me? No matter. I’ve long grown tired of this mummery.” The last word made her breath hitch, and she covered her mouth. Eyes squeezed shut as she prayed that none had heard her. She was quiet, but two people in this room knew about the space under the throne. If Varis decided to look, it would be the death of her.

“ Now, my dearest grandson. Let me remind you of your place, in the simplest terms.” Oh boy, he was getting ready to get started on a lecture. From what she remembered, Varis had never been fond of those. She highly doubted he would be now that he was 46 either. Though, compared to Hades, Varis might have well be a baby. Heck, she might as well be a baby, too, compared to the twelve thousand-year-old dramatic grump. “ You do not make judgments-you administer them. Swiftly and to the letter. Naught else concerns you.”

Ouch, telling him how to be emperor, that had to sting. Was she surprised, though? The Ascians needed Varis to do as he was told to bring the next calamity. Though, she did wish that they would wait another 100 or so years to let the world recover. Was that so much to ask for? They were immortal and could always cause one of these to happen later. Maybe she could get Hades to stall his plans at the very least. Give the world time to recover while she discovers how to remove the temperament.

“ Elidibus may be an insufferable bore, but he is no fool. His choices as emissary seldom err.” Emet stated as he looked at Varis. He got up and turned toward the throne only to raise a brow. There was someone in the space under the throne. How? Only the royal family knew it was there… Wait a second. He knew that color, and seeing it here made him ache. But that still left the question of how she remembered. Then again, she was well known for remembering things from her past lives. “ If aught threatens the balance ‘twixt light and dark, it falls to you to remove it.”

“ Be it by your own hands or your armies. You have ample means at your disposal.” Best to act like he hadn’t seen anything for now. It would not due to give her away. The last thing either of them needed was the guards hunting for her. No, he would corner her after he was done with this little lecture. Corner her and perhaps do terrible and euphoric things to her, things they would both enjoy very much. Turning to face Varis, Emet smiled as he walked toward the other. “ That is why this empire exists-why. I built it.”

A smirk touched the Ascian's lips as he regarded his grandson. Varis didn’t seem pleased, but the boy was never pleased these days. He knew too much to be happy with how the world was. In truth, Emet always wondered how she managed to stay so comfortable and upbeat even after he told her. She had just carried on with life business as usual. It had irked him initially, and then he asked her how she could do it. He was transported back into the greenhouse he had built for her here for a moment. She had just smiled at him and said that there was nothing she could do to change it at present, and to let it bring her down would be a waste of her life. It was logical, but how she did it was still beyond him.

“ Oh, dear, have I touched a nerve? You always were an easy one to read.” He did understand it, though. Emet knew that most would be happier not knowing. Azem was always the exception, not the norm. Honestly, she would get offended if anyone called her normal. Such was her way. An unruly woman that caused endless trouble, but she was his trouble. She was his headache, but his soul also sang in her presence. “ I pity you, I do. As they say, ignorance is bliss. And I know how much happier you would be not knowing what you know.”

“ The founding father was an Ascian!” Emet proclaimed as he turned to face the throne. He threw his head back, and his arms were outstretched as he smiled. Yes, he was an Ascian, a relic from an age long past. That was ok, though. He would bring back his people. He would fix this shattered world and these broken people. Turning, he looked at Varis and struck a pose. “ And he created the Empire solely for sowing the seeds of chaos!”

Emet took in a breath and smirked. Varis was such a bore, but this was what he had to work with. Would things have been easier if he had named Titus’s son his heir? Ultimately, he needed to leave this world with a bang, and the civil war had done just that. “ Don’t take it personally. I merely do my duty.”

“ To bring about a Calamity requires no small amount of power. And there is no surer way to obtain such power Than by collecting powerful pawns.” Emet went on as he watched the other. Was he pulling out his pistol? This ought to be enjoyable and a waste of time and energy on both sides. It seemed like Varis was not enjoying this though he didn’t care much about it. No, he was more interested in finishing this than cornering their uninvited guest. It was going to be such a sweet reunion. “ To that end, I have labored long and hard, and I must say I am quite pleased with my handy work-paltry as it seems in comparison to Allag.”

Symphony jumped and nearly yelped as she heard the gunshot go off. What had just happened? Had Varis finally gotten tired of listening to him talk? They were sometimes overly fond of hearing themselves talk, though she had always enjoyed listening to Hades talk. Then again, she wasn’t even on the other side of a condescending lecture. She vividly remembered having to smooth things over between Hades and Varis in her last life after such a lecture.

“ You fiends are over-fond of your voices.” Ope, there was Varis. Could she blame him for being tired of his grandfather's bullshit? No, no, she really couldn’t be. The man was forty-six and tired of condescending lectures from a man that was supposed to be dead. “ Mark me, Ascian. Man is master of his destiny!”

“ Such a waste of time and energy. Both yours and mine.” He was a man that was not going to stay dead either. Symphony knew this all too well, though none of them stayed dead. No, they were all shards of ancients split against their will. Seven times had they been rejoined, and seven times had Hydealen become weaker. “ Lest you forget, you are Emperor now. If you wish to spout drivel about man’s destiny, save it for the masses. It will give them a sense of purpose… and you pliant pieces for the game.”

It was time to move. Symphony could tell that this conversation was ending, and she had heard enough. It was also better for her to start moving now as it would give her a head start. Was it still likely that she was going to get caught? Yes, but this way, she could at least say she attempted to get away unnoticed. It was also still technically possible that he hadn’t noticed her. As unlikely as it was. Scrambling down that passageway, she turned at the fork to head down the one that led out of the palace. However, she didn’t get very far down it before getting caught in a tangle of tentacles.

“ Well, well, it looks like I have caught a little purple bunny. I wonder how much she remembers!” Emet chuckled as the tentacles came out from around his legs. She was a veria in this life. How entertaining. Hee wondered how sensitive those ears would b for a moment, but he could get to that in a moment. A hum left as he looked her up and down. She still had a similar body type as her previous life, as well as an abundance of purple curls. Her hair was wild as ever, to be sure. “ Don’t answer yet. Let's move somewhere a bit more private.”

With that said, he opened a portal around them. When things came back into focus, they would be in a bedroom within the palace. It wasn’t like Varis could tell him no. Nor would he allow anyone to come between himself and his prize. Though, he did wonder what had possessed her to come here of all places. It was sure to be an exciting tale when he was spent enough to let her tell it.

Was gonna type out a whole diatribe trying to weigh lore compliance against what might be lore breaking, and exploring what is actually possible in canon vs what rpers would deem 'acceptable' to rp... But also maybe just fuck it might as well have fun and make a voidsent possessed catte.

R3. do they get attached easily?

YES ABSOLUTELY. l'aiha has a great many layers of secrecy and trust to her, so getting close to HER can be a long process, but she's EXTREMELY amiable to others. it's VERY hard to make her disregard a person out of hand; she's extremely sympathetic to others' situations, to the point of often sympathizing even with the villains she's faced over the years. she's just NOT a hateful person, and she sees a lot of wonderful things and mourns how those things may've been lost due to circumstances or the simple failure of choosing to do good

even the briefest of acquaintances tend to mean a lot to her, and she'll be ride or die for you before the day's out. she just values and appreciates people A LOT

F1. what do they always carry?

as of the current point in ffxiv's story, l'aiha ALWAYS has

azem's memory crystal (rly lore-heavy spoilery thing i'm not gonna try to summarize here LOL)

a promise wristlet (gridanian equivalent to an engagement ring; she's had it since before she lost all her memories, and she doesn't even know what it IS, but she can guess it must have been special to her once)

aetherometer (a goggles-like device that allows one to see magical currents and get scientific-type readings/values from them. she's an aetherologist, so being able to scan the ambient aether around her is pretty important!)

various well-used and well-kept notebooks (contains aetherology and arcanima equations, like, the completely incomprehensible kind that only means anything to you if you're WAY more advanced in math than i am LOL. she's the kind of person who wakes up out of a dead sleep to solve an equation that's been driving her insane for 3 months)

B5. what's your favorite headcanon you have for your oc?

she's EASILY my most thoroughly designed oc since raein, like, i practically have her entire life mapped out from her early childhood to now. so uh, u can imagine there's A LOT of little things i've put into her that i'm kind of obsessed with FHKDHJKDLGHDL

i often come back to the fact she's a partially awakened ascian though—she has a LOT more abilities than the average sundered, unawakened soul does, but she's also got a lot LESS than a fully-fledged ascian. some of her ascian traits include the (automatic/impulsive) ability to soul-hop into a new (dead) body when her current one dies, magically alter it to her appearance, and basically resurrect herself; her silhouette doesn't cast a shadow, and she often tries to minimize how noticeable this is by wearing a lot of glowing bits and bobs to make people thing there's just too much light on her to really see a shadow; and, at least before an accident she had, a startlingly advanced grasp on summoning!

now that she has azem's crystal, it's only a matter of time before she accidentally fully awakens herself. it's stressing her out! like, YEAH, she wants her memories back, but not from an ANCIENT LIFE IN A WORLD THAT NO LONGER EXISTS. she means the ones she lost THIS century!!!! fuck!!!!

how did ranjit know to gun for the temple. lieutenant dude doesn't get a name. y'shtola really is reckless this is like the 3rd time.

ok i feel bad for runar but i also know spoilers. like i said this is like the 3rd time. y'shtola is the Best at getting herself into Situations and then weaseling out of said Situations by the skin of her teeth. maybe this time it cost her an arm. why doesn't y'shtola have that lasso spell

not flow again. giiiirl you gotta stop that can't be your go to.

what is emet selch up to

well that was quick last time she was gone for an expansion and a half

the whole sundering/rejoining thing is really christian now that i think about it. emy is so depressed.

in the jp emet-selch specifies that it is the original ascians, not just all ascians.

what stuck me initially about ffxiv and also annoyed me early on is that the day night cycle is a equal ratio of 12 hours night to 12 hours night. and I was annoyed because the night lighting is bad so every half an hour or whatever I'd have to turn my monitor brightness up, and then down, and a up again. BOTW and other games deal with this by making it summer in the temperate/higher latitudes so day iss 16 hours and night is 8. However I have come to appreciate ffxiv's equal day/night cycles (as annoying as it can be) in terms of it's thematic significance, especially here in shb. the day/night cycle happens when the shard's light and dark aether are better in balance. in contrast to everlasting light where there is only day

wow. thancred almost sounds like you're repeating your mistakes. it's almost like you shold have learned

wow. ok. i had the cutscene on autoplay so i missed a good chunk of it but thancred's and minfilia's lines when confronted by ran'jit in ahm areng are very different between the japanese and english scripts. i might look up the differences later because they're very important. in the past4 expansions in general the jp is more specific and I'd say deeper where as the eng will simplify or gloss over things

weren't thancred's aetherial pathways or whatnot already damaged from flow. ok yeah i know he's not dead which is a good time to bring up how i hate fakeout deaths and how the devs have been cowards since the end of hw for not killing off characters.

and i got so distracted by that i almost forgot i came here to say that thancred's final confession is that he considers himself minfilia's (ascilia) onii-san

the 5 companions combined? were absorbed into minfilia, but she stops ardbert? because "its not his time" the phrasing reminds me of when minfilia hiveminded and got absorbed into hydaelyn

I always disliked the localization of hikari-no-miko to oracle. for one the prophecy thing never comes up especially for the new minfilia. and two it removes the overt religious language that makes a lot more sense. like it's shady af that some secret cult is running around eorzea and recruits you. the worship of the twelve as a whole is weird and that's how the path of the twelve and then the scions market themselves. also minfilia straight up got absorbed by hydaelyn, she is the priestess of light.

no words from the minfilias about how the light is corrupting the pc and turning them into a lightwarden?

oh? given how that was going I assumed baby minfilia changed her mind about giving up her existence to fully incarnate old minfilia. but she just lost all the physical traits for hydaelyn's mouth piece like the glowy blue eyes and blond hair.

what does that mean. also it was always her own life. so she lost the minfilia appearance but gained the minfilia powers. that's certainly symbolically unusual.

yeah no. when older minfilia was like "you've learned to love yourself" I was like press X to doubt. i don't think she still has yet to love herself

it's pronounced reen??? like bean... kagamine rin. all this time I thought it was rien/rine like rye or rhino or rind.

i will say one thing for rdr2. it had the guts to kill off the protag and make you play the post game as someone else.

pc is literally cracking. that isn't good. where's that spiderman meme for meteor and ardbert. of course he's the one that ends up holding the pc together was wondering what sort of narrative purpose he was going to serve besides being depressed.

I still don't get why some cutscenes have subtitles and others text boxes. like they can make the text boxes be timed so why have 2 systems.

Given the other christian imagery (church of first light) i found it weird that there's 5 light wardens (lakeland, ill mheg, raktika, ahm areng, kholusia) when they seem to be paralleling the 4 archangels. Also weird that 3 of them are named after the greek ideals of love but not all the types of love and not all the lightwardens. I can't tell if shb is using christianity for the aesthetic the way of a lot of japanese media do because it's cool and edgy or if this is actually meaningful. I'll have to think about this after i finish 5.0 (in 10 years lol)
