HAPPY TAMAVERSARY! Smart Anniversary Party Set
It's November 23, so you know what that means...new Anniversary Tamagotchi to celebrate the market release date of the original Tamagotchi 26 years ago! Once again we have a Smart set, though it's a bit more lavish and readily available than last years.
To recap, last year the white Tamagotchi Smart was available via lottery on Bandai's exclusive shopping site Premium Bandai and shipped at the very end of August 2022 (close to 3 months before the general release of the coral pink, mint green, and NiziU versions). It includes the 1997 Friends TamaSma Card that lets you raise 4 classic characters (Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, Nyorotchi, Oyajitchi) in their 1996 monochrome pixel stylings along with playing the good old "Left or Right" game. Come to think of it, I wrote a post about the unboxing!
Anyway, this year's theme is Anniversary Party, plus it's available at general retail so more fans will be able to get their hands on it. Let's see how it looks next to last year's package.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IT'S BIG! The added length and depth comes entirely from the character book added as a bonus. (For those who've never opened a Smart, it's a VERY tight fit in there!)
Tumblr media
On one side of the package you've got your special artwork...last year's mimicked the original P1 Japanese packaging, while this year's features a big old party with cake, balloons, plus all the Smart adults and the 10 included on the TamaSma Card, including Ginjirotchi who was picked by fans in a poll a few months back! This year's is much more in line with the modern Tamagotchi branding...I personally remain a fan of the classics.
Time to look inside!
Tumblr media
Character Special Book? Check. Anniversary Party TamaSma Card? Check. Smart unit and wristband? Check. Instruction booklet and charging cable? Check and check. (Between my Vital Bracelets and my Smarts I'm swimming in these tiny cables!)
Now let's get a look at the actual unit.
Tumblr media
Oh that is SPARKLY! A gorgeous glittery gradient makes up the "faceplate", with the new Tamagotchi logo screened in white on the clear cover. Matched with the purple of the unit it's a true visual treat.
Tumblr media
Taking a look at the unit without the wristband, it's an opaque cool purple shell. I'd call it closer to periwinkle than lilac if we're going by Crayola crayon colors. The printed buttons around the Home button aren't a perfect color match, having a bit more red to them. It bothers me a bit but honestly I'm so busy staring at the sparkles I doubt I'll care much once this review is gone.
The wristband itself has a jelly-like opacity to it and feels a little firmer than the standard strap. The clasp is a slightly darker purple that matches the unit's Home button, and features no printing.
As for the Special Character Book...?
Tumblr media
It's a bit smaller than the books that have been released so far. I thought it would be similar to the character introduction section of January's "Special Book", but it's actually BETTER!
Tumblr media
While the Special Book used the blue-outline "modern" art for classic characters up until the Connection series, this book uses the original artwork from "back in the day". Pixels and personality galore! Plus they have full rosters for Angel, Garden, Ocean, Devil, and Yasashii, which were only covered briefly in the special book.
Tumblr media
PLUS it's got character descriptions for EVERYONE, even the funky dudes who were exclusive to Data CardDass cards and random town residents who I'm not sure have ever been featured like this before!
All non-collab (NiziU, Sanrio, Molcar, One Piece, Pixar) SmaCard characters are included up to September's Magical Change as well. (The Anniversary Party characters are introduced pretty early on, plus they were all in past versions anyway.)
The inner covers also feature past series art including the original package, 20th anniversary art, and more!
I wasn't expecting so much love and care to go into a such a small volume, but I've gotten a real sense that whoever is in charge of Tamagotchi cares greatly about the history of the brand. Professor Banzo and Mika-Chu even give a send-off on the back cover, thanking us for 25 years and hoping we'll continue to stick with them going forward.
Tumblr media
Overall, a great set sure to please even the most nitpicky of fans. Here's to another 25 years!

I mentioned in that 10 Things About Me post that I collected Tamagotchis and @idolsgf wanted to see them, so here they are!
I no longer actively collect or display them, so the first pic is an older one of my display. The white drawers in the middle housed one each of the newer colour tamas. The pink and mint one on the shelf under it have about 3 tamas in each bin; they're all mostly V1-V5 or minis/chibis.
The second pic was one that I took of the box-less tamas I have that I was wanting to downsize.
The third pic was one I went and took today. These are my absolute holy grail favourite tamas I've ever acquired. The large white one at the top is a Yasashii. Then a green Santagotch next to it and a pink Devilgotch below. The pink one in the middle is a Tamagotchi Color, with a V5 Royal next to it. The red boxed one in the middle is from the Asia series from 1996 and is for Vietnam. The two at the bottom are milky IDs :)

I'll try to get better pictures sometime.
There's a little tamagotchi house play scene that I'd love to make a copy of.

Tamagotchi Heroes VPet
Maybe there should also be a new Tamagotchi VPet to go along with Tamagotchi Heroes that you could connect to the game through Bluetooth. It would have all of the available Tamagotchi in the game and have the Mix feature!
Of course, that would take a lot of data to make that happen, so the VPet should be as big as the Yasashii Tamagotchi which holds the title of the biggest Tamagotchi VPet to date, and the memory chip inside it would be about 6in. long and wide.
The sprites would also have to be smaller for it as well, like how your Tamagotchi's sprite gets smaller when it's farther from the screen in the Tamagotchi M!X and Meets.
There would also be hidden characters within them but they can only be unlocked if you've beaten the game's story first!
Through Bluetooth, the Tamagotchi Heroes VPet and the game could transfer items and accessories to one another, and even have the Tamagotchi in each one interact with each other and most likely get married and have babies! Others could bring their VPets along and play minigames with you!
Since Tamagotchi Heroes would be released across the world, this VPet should as well!
The name of it would be...
US: Tamagotchi Pocket Hero!
Japan: Poketto de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Eternitchi!
PAL: Tamagotchi Tama Heart Artifact
It would have 8 colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Pink, Black, and White. The black and white ones are the most rare, and for good reason! The black and white ones would have all of the secret Tamagotchi unlocked right off the bat!

Someone on Mercari was having a moving sale collection clear-out...sure, they were pricey, but WOW, pristine... Aside from the aged rubber on the Yasashii buttons, you can hardly tell they're over 20 years old. Wild.

What rare tamagotchi do you really want
oh hello! well, i have always really wanted to try out a tamasuku. i feel like it would feel good in my hands and be interesting although i probably wouldn’t play it daily. i would love devilgotchi, angelgotchi or mecagotch (does that count? it’s a calculator but still tama product). ever since i was little i dreamed of having a golden v3, i think my life will be complete if i ever get one. yasashiis look cool too but again i don’t think i’d actually run it. *shrugs* it’s coming up to my birthday soon so perhaps i’ll buy a nice tama!! oh i forgot to mention tama deka. it’s SO COOL and i also used to dream of having it.

4, 9, 13, 14, 17?
4. did you ever watch the tamagotchi anime/movies?Yes I have! I watched the English dub of the first movie, I have the French dub of the second movie on DVD (I think the second movie is a lot better even though I adore Chama), and I own all of Tamagotchi! and GO-GO Tamagotchi on DVD, the latter of which just arrived this past Friday.
9. how many tamagotchi’s do you own?Only 18 at the moment, I believe. I keep buying merch but not actual tamas because they’re “too expensive on this paycheck” yet I just spent $80 on a bunch of merch and then $40 on GO-GO DVDs... and that’s not even including shipping haha...
13. how many tamagotchis have you ran at one time?I believe the most I ever ran at once was during my last winter break in college, which was 9? I had my 2 4Us (they’re always here though ♥), my 2 Nanos, my 2 m!xes, my iDL, my P’s, and my Dream Town all running then. I only have 4 running right now because of work.
14. do you like the tamagotchi crossovers that have happened?I am thankful every day for the numerous McDonalds crossovers.
17. if you could have any tamagotchi toy, which one would you have?If we’re talking about the virtual friends, then definitely the Yasashii. I always thought they were cool, but obviously it’s a purchase that I can’t really make until I’m making a very comfortable amount of money haha...
