‘Ringu’ – the original ‘Ring’ on AMC+, Shudder, and Arrow
Ringu (Ring) (Japan, 1998), directed by Hideo Nakata from the novel by Koji Suzuki (once dubbed “the Japanese Stephen King”), changed the face of Japanese horror cinema.
The eerie thriller about a mysterious, unsettling videotape that kills everyone who watches it seven days later is an urban legend turned skin-crawling psycho-thriller with supernatural echoes. The curse spreads though a high…

The Confidence Man JP: The Movie
The Confidence Man JP: The Movie [trailer]
Three con artists attempt to steal the diamond from a member of the triad in Hong Kong, who is cold-blooded and appropriately called "Ice Princess."
It feels all rather arbitrary and is hard to get into. The most entertaining parts are actually the scenes before and after the whole convoluted heist business.

I’ve accumulated quite the little collection of Holmes videos that I never got around to posting. More RDJ Holmes on the way, maybe some Jeremy Brett and Yûko Takeuchi in the future!

Creepy's concern for plot drains it of authentically creepy moments -- a film review
Creepy’s concern for plot drains it of authentically creepy moments — a film review
KimStim Though a bit bogged down by the superficiality of constraints of the police procedural, Creepy (Kuripi: Itsuwari no rinjin), the new movie by Japanese horror auteur Kiyoshi Kurosawa, features enough below the plot to be worth recommending. The film follows obsessive police detective Takakura (Hidetoshi Nishijima), who has given up detective work after a hostage situation goes awry. He…

catch me worshipping yûko takeuchi for the amount of hours she obviously put into making sure she got sherlock’s neurodivergence right bc it led us to having such wonderful things like sherlock nibbling on bitter dark chocolate when she needs to stay grounded, and her expressing auditory overstimulation multiple times on the show in a very realistic way, including a time when she’s yelled at and she reacts to it negatively and it doesn’t go away for a moment, leading her to react strongly to smaller sounds like elevated talking voice or a phone suddenly ringing bc she’s still processing the yelling from earlier :’)

So I just watched Miss Sherlock finale
And I have lots and lots of spoilery feelings about it, but this ain’t post about that. First and foremost - GIVE ME CONFIRMATION OF SEASON 2!
Because Miss Sherlock, my dear friends, has some serious goodness:
- it looks really nice (it takes after BBC Sherlock here with the gorgeous visuals, but apart from that it does its own thing, THANK GOD)
- it has great soundtrack
- everyone is cute
- I love Sherlock’s and Wato’s growing friendship, love love love
- I love how Wato’s war story has been treated
- Yûko Takeuchi & the writers put their own spin on Sherlock’s character and it’s great (she’s a beautiful weirdo, make her grow, but not change, if you know what I mean)
- Sherlock’s wardrobe, seriously I’m this close from writing a post only on that
- Sherlock’s and her brother’s relationship (to think about it, GREAT RELATIONSHIPS ALL AROUND)
- Ran Itô being wonderful as Kimie Hatano (AKA Mrs Hudson)
- Inspector Reimon (hello you quirky fella) & sergeant Shibata providing entertainment AND support
- the overall theme (smart, about people’s motivations) & how the cases were enjoyable even if you guessed the culprit (bc twisty story is fun but it’s not all)
- HUMOUR - this series can be so bleak and so happy & heartwarming at the same time
tl;dr GO WATCH MISS SHERLOCK
