hey did you guys know they released official maru and moro angelic pretty xxxholic collab gowns as a movie tie in but they were ultra limited run custom reservations for a REALLY high price (even for modern ap) so there was no way i was gonna get em but i want them so bad just so i could say i have the official xxxholic lolita dresses anyways

does anyone know where I can watch the 2022 live action xxxHolic movie? I've been dying to see it since it was announced, even more so since it was released, but I haven't been able to find anything anywhere. I have a sinking suspicion that it might be locked behind Crunchyroll and its premium paywall if it is anywhere, but if it exists in a digital form there, then it must be somewhere else available on the internet.

please...I just want to see some silly live action Watanuki shenanigans and whatever interpretation of the later chapters of the manga it was able to cover..........

watching the new xxxholic movie (by new I mean the 2022 one) and Jorogumo is serving cUNT in this one, and I like all the creative differences so far. I'm almost halfway through.

my decision to watch the xxxholic movie (i found one with subs, and i think it’s accurate) has me all mess up on the inside.

because like, it’s not a straight up adaptation (very much like the live-action drama from years ago). and some parts i do miss from the og anime/manga. like the one-side hate going on steaming from wakanuki’s end regarding his and doumeki’s relationship, the whole ‘customer of the week’ going on with the shop, the cameos of other xxxholic characters or lack of cameos, the comedy of wakanuki having to be the servant boy being a foot-note)

yet somehow, they still manage to get the important stuff as well (that’s not just the aesthetics they got it mostly down and it rocks)

the bittersweetness with watanuki and himawari relationship that can’t be in like, anything matter. seriously, himawari’s speech in her goodbye got me tearing up because always, she deserves much better.

the fact doumeki is forever loyal and devoted to watanuki, helping him out without even being prompted? like, that bow-and-arrow scene near the ending? him still deciding to hang out with watanuki and help with the shop?

that final scene with watanuki and yuuko?? like hello??? the movie straight up kept the spirit of that moment from xxxholic and made it worse?! because this time around, watanuki is just a close-off depressed teenager who isn’t (un)intentionally part of some crazy plot, who found people he’s finally close with? and one person he gotten close to him since his mother died, dies to save him (and like, the world???)

that scene got crying, because this time around, watanuki accepts it. yuko won’t come back for good. no need to wait for her to show up (even in a dream telling him it’s okay to leave the shop).

all in all, it’s something i would recommend watching.

So, April first repeats, over and over and over again, and Watanuki just… goes with it. Goes with the same breakfasts, the same festival, and the same sidestep between two stalls when he sees Himawari-chan.

Goes with the same lengths of time spent laughing with Doumeki and feeding each other sweet treats (and definitely not thinking about how it all feels like a date, each and every single time), and ignoring the fact that none of this is actually real.

Because it's better this way.

Nobody's getting hurt this way.

Everyone is, if not happy, then at least content, this way.

(And if one of those loops ends with him being pulled behind a food stall and kissed to within an inch of his life only to wake up alone in his bed again… Well, it's not like anyone's going to witness his embarrassment and frustration and remember it, anyway.)

xxxHolic The Movie (2022)

Well, that was very... Japanese. And as much as I looked forward to this movie - I own the manga in its entirety and I watched and loved the anime - I simply didn't like it. Why?

For one, the music was very jarring. Terribly loud, electronic, very... 2001: A Space Odyssey like with the whole droning thing etc. After a while, it made my eye twitch. I really hated it.

Also, I felt like I was actually watching a theater performance. It was mostly filmed in a studio, among very obvious set pieces - the shop didn't even look like a real place - and the performances themselves were so overwrought, especially by the villains. It felt very "even the viewers in the last row need to see I'm batcrap insane, watch me cackle." Yeah.

The only saving grace? Watanuki and Doumeki. This kind of a relationship was what I wanted from the manga and the anime and the movie actually delivered. So brownie points for that.

But... yeah. This? Not my cuppa. Maybe someone who is really into artsy stuff will love it but not me.

Rating: 6/10 (for Doumeki!)

1 hour and 18 minutes in and I just realised that the punk guy is basically the male version of Jorogumo, is it perhaps they are portraying Watanuki as someone who likes men and women, so there are two, for whichever prey they are after? Is it one collective being or are their two separate entities? I'm having a great time
