Yesterday, my mom went with me to one of the many thrift shops I check once a week.

And found a cute dress, black with white flower detailing.

For 15 dollars.

It was her first day looking.

#Doc needs a dress #This is just the luck of the draw with thrifting #it happens! #But I SCREAMED ahahah #She's a better size for thrifting than I am #I'm fairly small for an American and there's a concept I see circled around that all the stuff in thrift stores is XS -s #I have not personally found that to be true #unless you're in a true VINTAGE store where everything is...well...vintage sized #and then you're not paying thrift prices and they've emptied out most of the thrift stores #A US 10-12 is the sweet spot at most of the places I go #but honestly even 14-16 often hasw more choices than I do at 4-6 #at your standard thrift store #here at least I can't speak for every city in the US #but it was also true at the goodwills in the Chicago area

#theres a canadian brand i like here but the sizing is a little different and im a large here #im a size 8 btw #and it kind of makes my brain want to freak out but i know it means Literally Nothing At All so i will persevere in order to get cute stuff #they usually only carry XS-L though which means that if ur larger than a size ~10 u cant shop here which is kind of insane

I'm very curious when the term 'skinny' started gaining a positive connotation. Traditionally, being called skinny is negative. It means you're unattractively thin with no meat/flesh on your bones. Usually intended as an insult. "You're too skinny, eat more!" or "She's so skinny no curves at all its like a teenage boy." Do people mean slim? Slim means you're attractively thin. Or just... thin. Thin is a relatively neutral term to talk about someone lacking curves. Thin is also the antonym to fat, so if that's the dichotomy you're using, thin is more appropriate.

#the people I see using skinny with a positive connotation are... not thin #are they simply unaware the term they're using isn't a nice one? #a best its pretty impolite honestly #you're basically calling someone ugly/unattractive because of their body type #also LMAO imagine thinking size 4 is normal in America #I don't know where y'all are thrifting but I can't just 'walk into any thrift store and put together a cute outfit' of XS + size 4 pants #I'm lucky if I can find a (pink! always pink!) t-shirt and some teen girl jeans to fit me #or boy's cargo shorts and t-shirts #boys as in age 10-12 not as in teen boys
