more x6-88 headcanons (post-institute)

Will occasionally have nightmares about being reclaimed, despite the institute being long gone. The thought of the institute still being out there, slowly rebuilding, is always on the back of his mind. Doesn't sleep much at night for that reason, unless he's near sole.

Total germaphobe. For the first couple of weeks in Sanctuary, refused to touch dirt or deal with radroaches and bloatflies. Died a little on the inside when he discovered people eat them. His cleaning sprees could match Codworth's.

Refuses to let anyone touch his hair. Started cutting it himself, eventually getting pretty good at it. If you're close to him, he will give you a bomb-ass haircut. His hands will "accidentally" slip if you're someone he can't stand. Once gave Marcy a bald spot on behalf of the entirety of Sanctuary.

If you asked him his favorite color while he was in the institute, he would've told you that was a pointless question. If you kept asking, black. Now, it'd be orange, because of the sunset. The sun setting was one of the first things he learned to appreciate about the commonwealth, as well as the stars. It comforts him knowing that every day comes to an end. In the institute, it was never over.

Adding onto the last headcanon, the reason he constantly wore glasses was because of the blinding institute lights. After moving to the surface, he eventually stopped wearing them as much.

Hates water. I'm not talking about his fear of water, oh no. If it rains, if he gets splashed, if he's forced to take a bath, god forbid if you use the thirst zapper on him - he is the literal epitome of a pathetic wet cat. (By the way, if you did use the thirst zapper on him, you better start running.)

Has an extreme love-hate relationship with Deacon. By love-hate, I mean X6 is 100% of the hate, 0% of the love. Do not leave this man in a room with him for more than 5 minutes, he will literally strangle him to death.

Deep down, he does appreciate Deacon, even though he'll never admit it. Deacon was one of the first people to look past him being a courser and accept him into the group. Unfortunately for X6, being 'accepted into the group' by Deacon means constant, never-ending pranks.

☆Outside and free of the Institute and traveling with Sole, whenever X6 finds some small children's clothes, he will gather and store them for later. After returning home, he'll get some tools and turn them into clothes for the cats around the settlement. I mean, he turns plenty of it into useful stuff, of course, but he has to keep his cats warm.

☆While X6 was a part of the Institute, he never relaxed, or even allowed to relax. His thoughts aligned with the Institute in that he's a synth, and they don't need to have that luxury. When Sole came around, Sole encouraged X6-88 to take his time and look around not just to watch out for enemies but to take in the beauty of the land and sounds of the sea. Sole wanted him to live. X6, of course, thought this was unnecessary but tried when both Shaun and Sole started hounding him. First, he started with the sea. Looking at the water bored him, but the sounds of the waves crashing and flowing is what got him. It felt nice.

☆He's never been someone who's interested in hats or odd outfits, never really liked them. But young Shaun does. Shaun likes wearing funky, weird clothes and hats. Shaun always asked for X6 to dress up with.

"We can be cowboys, X6! It'd be so cool!" X6 would finally relent and, for Shaun and Shaun only, does put a hat on. But that's it, just a hat. Well, maybe a coat or a vest. Fine, and a superhero mask. That's where he draws a line.

some headcanons about x6-88

Mostly post institute, some angsty ones included: - Definitely has a massive, hidden stash of fancy lads. Extremely over-protective of them, and will somehow notice if just one is missing even if he's got like 50. The only person he's ever shared with is Shaun. Might share with sole if they ask nicely - no promises though. Once Deacon tried to prank him by hiding them and saying he ate them. Deacon to this day will refuse to say what happened after, scared to relive the experience. - Even years after the institute exploded, he still gets afraid of showing emotions. It'll be less severe around people he's closer to, especially sole, but strangers get the cold shoulder. As more time passes, he'd be a bit more... tolerant, but he will still be overly cautious. Probably has an extreme fear of getting close to people (metaphorically and literally). - Knew he could feel even while in the institute, and in extension, deep down knew the synths he hunted could too. He always pushed it down though, due to a good old dose of institute brainwashing, and fear of ending up the same as other runaway synths. After the institute, feels immense guilt thinking about all the synths he tracked down. - Immediately takes up a protective role over synth Shaun post-institute-boom, feeling as if it's the least he owes to Father. Slowly, it develops into a sibling-like dynamic, making the protectiveness come out of their bond, rather than something he feels he must do. Shaun would be the second person he got close to, the first being sole. Getting close to Shaun finally made him realize that kindness isn't a weakness, it can be a strength. - Instead of getting too hot like other people headcanon, I imagine X gets cold very easily. Constantly wears fluffy coats, jumpers, woolly hats, and scarves. Back in the institute, the temperature was always kept exactly the same. He isn't used to the commonwealth's cold temperatures. Sole knitted him some gloves once. That is the only pair he'll wear.
