i dont know if anyone else noticed this but at the mcr wwwyf performance, only gerard, frank, and ray were wearing old age prosthetics. mikey is instead covered in fake blood.

mikey has told us himself, if he hadnt recieved help around the time of the breakup, he wouldve died. he was told he shouldve died based on his condition.

they arent just making a point that we can never go back to the past, that we cant get the "old" mcr back. they are saying its better that we never try to go back and its better that it ended when it did.

because otherwise mikey would be DEAD

it does get me thinking though, when it comes to how bands like mcr or paramore or fob could approach headlining a festival like wwwy.

there's hayley, who wrote at length about her conflicting feelings re: playing a show venerating a scene that treated her so goddamn poorly yet was the scene she found herself in and fell in love with. and how paramore opened their set with a song they hadn't played for years fearing that it was bad luck (and that comes so soon after reintroducing misery business back into their set)

there's mcr, openly tongue in cheek about how much their past and their legacy shaped the scene yet fully aware of how much they aren't that band anymore, that they aren't those people anymore, and that this is a GOOD thing, and they want you to know that this is a good thing. that they didn't open with their only new song in nearly a decade...

and fall out boy, who are notably not in attendance both this year & the next. it could be as simple as a scheduling conflict but it does make me wonder how people would have seen it if they HAD shown up, given how quick ppl are to claim that fob are sellouts

i think it really encompasses how complicated people's relationships with this scene are, & how fickle nostalgia is, & how you can combat the allure of it in different ways. the lore slash meta of wwwyf is almost more interesting than the festival itself ykwim?
