Where are your creative spaces? Making art is a studio thing that overflows into the waiting spaces in my world. Car trips are definitely one of those as I find myself stepping into the playfulness of simple materials. Water colour pad Water brushes (3 at least) Water colour blocks and palette tins Small tube of white gouache Paint pens and a biro grey lead pencil and graphite stick Of course this list varies but most fit into a pencil case. If I know there is waiting involved, I will take my packed bag with me and waiting spaces turn into spaces for creative play. Trusting what comes and enjoying the process. I usually work on more than one piece at a time and car creating is a perfect example. I created the owls yesterday and had a second piece that turned out to be a girls face images that naturally flowed. I started in exactly the same way as the owls. Dripping water and playing with the water colour flow on the page but this time the shape of a chin jumped out and so the face emerged. I thought that I would add flowers in her hair but they were definitely owls. Each step in this intuitive process is trusting the inner guiding whispers. These heart whispers are intuitive and the blocks come when you listen to the logic of your thinking mind. It is letting go and allowing. Finding freedom in creating in random places. Today was a car trip for a walk at Cape Schank on a sunny early winters day exploring our wonderful Victorian coast line. I’m sitting in the car with a watercolour pad and nick and a water pen. Randomly o add water to the page and start to create circles and swirls. Adding colours and seeing what forms. I start to feel as if this background is an abstract piece until I see an owl looking out at me from the swirls of colour. I choose the crimson to create outlines and the shapes flow from one to another. As I start to draw the owlet, a branch forms and then a tree. There is no plan here but a trusting of this soul story of connection and trust. It is a moment in time in the treetops that is full of energy and peace. I know I need to stop and let it dry but so keen to complete but we have arrived. Sometimes art needs space but I want to be subtle with the next steps. I love the open spaces and want them to stay. I don’t know the next step but trust it will flow. I’ve learnt to trust this intuitive process and step into the stories that the shapes suggest. They are always about connection and guidance and remind us of the beauty and connection of nature and our guided life. I return to the car and another owl appears in the branches and this time I add black biro and draw her in.Seeing what happens when I add another owl into this whimsical world. Of course I did final touches at home but mostly in the car until the sun went down. As I explore mixed media digital art, I came up against the issue of finding brushes to create effects I wanted. As I have an older version of photoshop, a lot would not work so I decided to create some of my own. These flowers are all my own unique brushes. Every turn is another learning space. The reality is these spaces of learning are a big part of the joy of the mixed media process. Art evolves in the strangest places. I have a habit of creating on car trips and today was a get out of the suburbs adventure to Warburton. We did the aqua-duct trail and randomly parched next to my sister and her family. Both a long way from home but the universe made our paths meet after several months of social distancing.
